Mentholatum Stops Nail Biting Deterrent, 7.5ml (Pack of 1)

I'm middle aged and have been biting my nails since I was a young child.Over the years I have tried numerous techniques to stop; but never had any long term success. My problem is, I bite my nails without realizing I'm doing it; its not a conscious decision. As soon as I realize it, I stop - but its usually after several minutes of doing more damage to my nails. Since it is subconscious, I need something to stop me as soon as my nails hit my mouth - which is why I tried this. The first problem is; the taste is not "that bad"; its only mildly bitter and not immediately noticeable. I had bitten my nails several times while using it and didn't notice the taste until 2 or 3 minutes of doing it. I had expected (was hoping) it to be a foul taste as soon as my nails made contact with my mouth.Another issue is that it washes off with hand washing so I had to reapply it 6-8 times a day. The label does say to reapply after hand washing.Since the bottle is only 7.5 ML (very small), it goes fast. The bottle last me less than a week and as I said, it took several minutes of nail biting for me to taste the bitterness.Others may find the taste more offensive, or notice the taste sooner than I did - I don't know. But regardless, there is still the issue that the product is gone after every hand washing.For me, it caused burning and redness to my cuticles; they got very inflamed from it.The directions say: "Apply over the entire nail and cuticle anytime, but particularly after eating, after washing, and at bedtime". So the product is supposed to be applied to the cuticle - but it caused irritation and burning to mine. Again, others might not have this reaction.Lastly, the caution label is confusing; it says "avoid contact with eyes, lips, and broken skin". The eyes I can understand, but lips??? this is an aid to stop nail biting so your lips WILL come into contact with this product. If you need this product then your nails do touch your lips......As for broken skin; if you bite your nails enough, you will have cuticle splits or tears or hangnails - so yes, it will also come into contact with broken skin.The caution label didn't stop me from trying it but it seems strange to have a product that must come in contact with your lips to work to also have a warning label to not let it come in contact with lips..........Oh well, back to trying to find another product.....

I got this for my 5 year old brother who has a nail biting habit. I had the same problem as a child and it wasn't much of an issue until I turned 12 and saw all the other girls have nice, and pretty hands with long nails. This product helped me get rid of the problem completely in a couple of months. I'm 20 now, with long and natural nails of my own. It has a bitter taste to it, but that's the basic aim. It is completely translucent with no colour. It looks like you have nothing on (unlike a transparent nailpolish coating which is shiny), so men who don't want to walk around with shiny enamelled nails can use this as well. It might sting a bit if your nails are bitten too short to the point that skin is exposed underneath. Hope it helps everyone else with that habit, like it helped me.

I have been a chronic nailbiter for over 50 yrs. It had gotten to where I would clench my fists in order to hide my horrible chewed off nails. It was getting so difficult to do simple things like picking up coins from off the floor, opening up my hearing aid case to put in new batteries, and opening up my cell phone in order to insert the cell charger plug into my cell phone in order to recharge my phone, and just allowing to show my fingers when signing a debit receipt. After using Stop N Grow for just a few days, I was not chewing on my nails and cutticles. In just a few weeks, my nails do not look like fingers appearing to have been mangled as well as very sore-looking. I can't wait to show off my new healthy-looking nails to my physician who always appeared mock-horrified when he examined my hands!

I'm using this product, and to all nail biters this stuff is actually horrible to taste, so yes it will help you to stop biting ur nails. I on the other hand just want longer nails, mine are weak and break easily. So I'm giving this product a try. I'll update shortly after say a month, it says 3 months but I don't think polish will last that long due to.... Packaging should've been alittle better. As I was opening the envelope it smelled foul like the polish was opened on the inside of package. I know it's crazy bc it was completely brand new and sealed. So if I order this product again I'm hoping package will be better. Seller from England was very prompt with shipping but it wasn't greatly packaged.

It's no meant to help u quit biting the skin next to your nails which is why I got it although it can be still used for it. It's been helping a lot lately especially now with finals, I had a really terrible habit and I think it's getting better now, thanks!

I have had bad nail biting ever since I was a little kid and is what I would do when I got stressed. With this product, I have been able to stop biting and am able to control bringing my hands to my mouth. This product is great and it was sent in literally a few days and did not take long at all! Definitely a great buy and does the trick! Thanks!

Potent when just applied but comes off quick; you have to repeat application a couple of times. Still working on the nail-biting issue though, hopefully it stops before I finish off the bottle.

I used this many years ago and found it to be the only product that worked for 2 to 3 days even after many washing of my hands. Also it dried on my nails like polish and didn't make every piece of food I ate also taste like it. Loved that I could finally buy on line.
