90860 Lee Precision, Carbide Factory Crimp Die, 9mm Luger

This die wins the Battle of the Bulge. I cannot resist 9mm brass lying on the ground at the range. Who knows what the origins of that fired brass may be? As a result some it will have a slight bulge near the base of the case after it’s been reloaded. Some will be worse than others. Anything that stands proud in my Hundo case gauge gets tossed in the reject bin. I run the rejects through the Lee FCD as a separate step. They then become usable. When I shoot these reclaimed cases though at the range, they get tossed in the trash. I figure they’ve been stretched and weakened. Time for them to retire. I may be cheap, but not that cheap. 9mm brass is plentiful. The FCD saves me from having to pull the bullets from the bulged cases in an effort to salvage components. It’s much easier to run cases through the FCD. I load on a Dillon 650 with Dillon dies which don’t size the case all the way to the bottom of the case from what I understand. This is the price to be paid for a smooth reloading cycle. I don’t crimp with this die as the cases don’t need to be taper crimped again IMHO. All in all, I’d recommend this die. It works as advertised.

I just got into reloading a couple of months ago. I was gifted an old lee precision turret press (purchased in 1990) and other reloading equipment to get started from my uncle who quit the hobby. I was super excited to start reloading, bought a die set for my preferred cartridge (9mm, 223) and already had a 38 special die set courtesy of my uncle. He also gave me a 50cal ammo can full of cleaned, deprived, and trimmed 9mm brass. Since the lit came with pistol powder and 100 ready to load casings, I set everything up and got to work. I went to the range and after I used up all my factory ammo, decided to bust out my reloads. First shot went off without a hitch.but that's when the problems raised. None of the reloads chambered and extracted as intended. It turned my Glock into a single shot. Frustrated, I single shot the crap out of the steel targets. I thought I figured out the problem, maybe i set the bullets to deep causing a bulge. Maybe I didn't resize it well enough. So I made corrections to my press and reloaded...another 330 rounds. It wasn't until I bought a case checker that I realized that my reloads need to be factory crimped. My 3 die set didn't come with this die and if I hadn't checked, i would've had the same range day experience. If you are reloading and not using this, then I don't know what to tell you. Learn from my mistake. If I didn't already have a taper crimp and factory crimp for my 223 I'd buy it in a heartbeat

Best carbide crimper for the money. If you set this up properly it provides extremely consistent and secure results without deformed projectiles. I have several brands of dies and always consider this Lee fcd an easy upgrade for pistol or rifle. The only die I have found to do a better job is the Mighty Armory carbide crimp die at 3x the price and even then it's only marginally better.

With my Dillon crimp die, I’ve been having problems with a few out of every 100 rounds failing my chamber checks/plunk test due to bulging or other sizing issues. I replaced the Dillon die with this one and it’s a night and day difference. Now everything I make seems to pass the gauge. Also, I can’t believe how cheap this was. I feel like I should have paid at least twice as much. I definitely recommend it if you’re doing high volume pistol rounds and you’re getting inconsistent final sizing. It took not even 5 minutes to get this installed and dialed in.

Did not come in a red box. Did not have instructions come with it. But seems to work as it should.

I used to use a taper crimp on straight wall pistol bullets and had trouble getting the crimp “just right”. Too often there was not enough crimp or commonly the taper crimp was too aggressive and would even bulge the case mouth. This Lee factory crimp eliminates both of these issues. Perfect crimp every time.
