Great beginner sewing machine
This has been a wonderful sewing machine! I had always wanted to learn to sew but really had no clue where to start as a beginner. This brother sewing machine has worked great and has been easy to figure out how to use! I have made three projects with it and it has worked great. If you are looking for an affordable option, I think this one is great!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Have been wanting to get into sewing for years now and have been looking around at sewing machines for months. Everybody on Reddit recommends getting a brother so imagine my bemusement when I see a Brother Lx3817 on sale (refurbished) I immediately jumped on it. Ive had it for about a week and so far so good and a good compact size and light enough that I can pick it up and store easily back in the box. It was super easy to thread and behind my sewing journey and found several videos on YouTube to get me started. Even though my machine was refurbished it still came with all the original accessories. It’s not super loud either which is a plus for late night projects. Also super versatile there’s quite a selection of stitches and even some decorative patterns but not too many that it feels overwhelming. Very happy with the overall quality especially for the price. Will do my best to come back and update the review if any issues occur. But seriously if you’re wondering if you should do it DO IT!

Good quality!
Very easy to use even for beginners. The size is perfect and it is lightweight & easy to lift. I haven’t sewed in years and the manual was very easy to follow.

Great machine, missing item.
The machine arrived in a Brother Factory box and was sealed as if new. The machine looks and works great. The only issue is that the description says it came with a protective cover, but it wasn’t provided in the package.

Renewed, Pleasant surprise
I bought this Renewed sewing machine out of desperation, as my old Kenmore (1969) was so tired. I received this light weight simple machine, which looked new. It had everything I needed to complete the job I was in process of doing. I can't believe it was (renewed)! I'm still waiting on my Kenmore to be returned. Everything about this little machine is so easy to use. Button holes, zigzag, different stitch settings, and it's all guarantee.

Compact and Reliable Sewing Machine for Everyday Use I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how well this Brother RLX3817 performs, especially considering it’s a renewed model. Setup was straightforward—threading and bobbin winding are intuitive, and the machine comes with clear instructions that make it beginner-friendly. The 17 built-in stitches cover all the basics I need, from straight and zigzag to simple decorative patterns. Stitching is smooth and consistent, and the machine doesn’t “walk” across the table like some lighter models I’ve tried. I’ve used it for hemming pants, repairing seams, and even light craft projects, and it handled each task without a hiccup. The foot pedal is responsive and easy to control, which makes working on delicate fabric less stressful. I also appreciate how compact and lightweight it is—easy to move and store without taking up much room. That said, this isn’t a heavy-duty sewing machine. It handles denim and thicker fabrics if you go slowly, but it’s best suited for everyday repairs, clothing alterations, and lightweight projects. Also, since it’s renewed, you may notice small cosmetic signs of prior use, but mine arrived clean and in excellent working condition. Bottom line: A great value for beginners and casual sewists who want a compact, easy-to-use machine that delivers consistent stitches without breaking the bank.
