Short And Sweet And Hard To Beat
"Politically Correct Nutrition" is a well written, informative book. Unlike some books that detail every bit of research done on a certain suspected unhealthy food or product this book gives you all the needed facts, without going into so much detail it becomes tedious reading. The chapters are short and informative and the book is definitely hard to beat.If you wish to know the whole soy story, the truth about cholesterol, fluoridation, aspartame, osteoporosis, eggs, plastics, microwaves, vitamin C, vegetarianism and more this is the book for you. My favorite chapters were the ones on microwaves, vegetarianism and vitamin C. The chapter on vitamin C confirmed what I already believed, which is that to much of even a good nutrient can be harmful. To large a dose of C turns it into a pro oxidant (causing oxidization) instead of the beneficial antioxidant it is at normal doses. Also, all vitamins, minerals and trace elements work synergistically in your body. Synergism is where a variety of nutrients work together to nourish your body and keep it healthy. You simply can not isolate a single vitamin or mineral and have it produce the same effect as the whole package. For example, there are nutrients in food we haven't even discovered yet.The same is true of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. While we are all unique in our biochemical makeup and some of us need more fat and protein, while others need more carbohydrates and some function best on a mix of fats, proteins and carbs, everybody needs a certain amount of all three of them, They all preform different functions in our body. Carbs are used for energy. Proteins are the building blocks of the body. Fats are required for the cells to function properly.

ENLIGHTENING REVEAL ON NUTRITION
I have had this book for years and bought another copy for my health care provider. Basically it shows you with sound research and data that what is "pushed" as healthy in the media and even with certain health care providers, is NOT what is best for humans. The information is there. People just need to make a decision as to what is driving their health and dietary choices and make some better decisions.

Eye-opening, very useful information for EVERYONE!
I've been interested in nutrition and healthy eating since my college days years ago, and thought I was pretty well informed. Then I read this book and realized how much I DIDN'T know. After reading it through once, I began again, highlighting information like I would a college textbook. Each chapter begins with a little "box" that lists the propaganda promoted about the food or subject followed by the reality of same. The chapters are filled with information, many cited studies (referenced in the Notes section in the back), and helpful tips at the end. This book has literally changed the way I shop for food/supplements/personal products, what I eat and how I prepare it. It has also given me more information to defend my beliefs about things like cholesterol when I see my doctor. If you think that the FDA, ADA, AMA, EPA and other groups are monitoring food, supplements, and other products in your best interest--read this book. It is not some conspiracy theory junk--it really is the uncovering of serious misinformation. Highly recommend for every consumer and health practitioner.

polititcally incorrect nutrition
this is a GREAT book. I'm a freak on nutrition and know just about everything you learn in the textbooks from the government. This book came along and questioned some of those things, but not all. I was skeptical to believe it, but the plethora of scientific studies (good, sound studies) overwhelmed me and I absolutely love this book. I borrowed it from the library to read it and now i bought it just to keep. IF you're interested in the REAL nutritional science, read this book.

A book everybody should read!
This is a great book, easy to read and with so much information that as I usually underline what I find most interesting I underlined almost the whole book. A pity that authors don't think about the fact that this kind of books are read by people from many countries. I would have liked to have found more information of what is allowed or banned in Europe, because in the case of the Bovine Growth Hormone, for example, I did get a bit scared but luckily it has been banned here. The chapter about Green Tea was very useful as I had been reading a bit about it on the Internet. Although I drink a lot of tea I dislike green tea. Still.... I am the kind of person who tries to adopt a healthier lifestyle if it seems to be better for you so I tended to drink green tea once in a while. After reading this chapter I ditched green tea completely. As far as fluoride goes only recently have I discovered that is actually not good for you. As soon as I stopped using tooth paste without fluoride my tongue became pink again, and not coated like before. Too bad that my children, born in a country which had already banned fluoride in the water were prescribed fluoride tablets like all children were in the 80's. As far as soy formula goes two of them were prescribed it by their pediatrician as they had lactose intolerance. God knows what problems they will encounter in their future lives..... As a parent you always try to do the best for your children but with bad advice being given most of the time it is not easy! The author does say that instead of fish some experts advise cod liver oil. Still.... there is no consensus on that. I wish I knew who to believe because a while ago I was taking cod liver oil and ended up with high levels of vitamin A and low levels of vitamin D. The bottom line is that one often doesn't know what to do. The danger seems to be all around us. As far as drinking milk I also don't know whether to trust his advice because one also hears that the body doesn't put the calcium from the milk to good use and that adults shouldn't actually drink milk meant for calves.Anyway, these are just a few points where I have questions, other than that this is an extremely useful book and I would recommend to anyone! You can't avoid all the dangers but you can try to protect yourself and those around you as much as you can!

This will change your eating habits forever!
Michael Barbee takes an honest look at many nutritional "facts." Green tea, soy, cholesterol, flouridation, among others. Not only does he bash the politically correct view completely, he backs up his conclusions with solid evidence. After reading the first chapter, I threw away every grain of green tea in my house! Although it's written mostly for an American audience, it is very relevant to us in the UK, and uses examples from all over the world. Great book!
