Ce livre très sérieux, écrit par un éminent scientifique, donne de très précieux conseils concernant le mal de dos et la pratique du hatha yoga. Les exercices sont bien expliqués, ils peuvent paraître étonnants car acrobatiques même pour des affections telles que la hernie discale. Mais il faut évidemment adapté selon le niveau du mal et l'auteur s'y connait, sans aucun doute. J'ai personnellement testé certains exercices et ils sont efficaces. Mais l'approche et les soins doivent bien sûr dépasser la seule pratique des postures, il faut apprendre à modifier nos habitudes d'occidentaux dénaturés !

great book that goes into detail about back pain. I get the impression that it was written for women but see no reason why it would not work for a man. the illustrations really help a first timer.

If you already own "Cure Back Pain with Yoga," by the same author, do not waste your money as I did by purchasing this book. It is a newer edition only in that the cover is new. The contents are identical, page by page, to that of the original. That said, this is a very good book that delineates various causes of low back pain (and gives a concise, informative mini-education about back pain in general) with appropriate yoga poses (with Sanskrit and English names) for each cause. The instructions for each pose are quite thorough, but I think I am able to take advantage of them because I have a good yoga teacher who knows how to cue, making reading Dr. Fishman's instructions more meaningful. I found that, without the corrections from a knowledgeable yoga instructor, there are seemingly minor but important adjustments that I need to make and I would otherwise be unaware of them. I am able to use Dr. Fishman's suggestions in order to supplement what I learn in my group yoga class and understand better what I am doing in class and to use at home to work on my back area even more.

I needed some extra poses to help with back discomfort. Not being comfortable attending yoga classes in person during the last 18 months, this book seemed a good source for new poses for a particular problem. The book even helps one to sort out the cause of the aches with very lucid breakdowns of types of back pains. It does not substitute for medical and therapeutical direction, but adds to it. I have found it helpful and would recommend the book. Your backache doesn't go away by reading it, of course, but the moves are described clearly, and offered in a beginner's language. Just take it slowly.
