The only One you'll ever need!!
I have twice before used this product, and I cannot more strongly recommend it. Everything on my old Acer desktop was transferred effortlessly. Fast and easy. The first time i used the product i had ethernet cable connection. The second time i got the one with USB 3.0 Cable. Much faster!! Either method produces amazing results. If I ever have need again I would use the USB,however you choice will depend upon your need and how much you choose to spend. Definitely would purchase again.

If You Read the Instructions - It Works Very Well!
BACKGROUND I had an 8 year old desktop that was a top of the line workhorse (dual graphics cards driving 6 screens, 64MB RAM, and multiple TB HDDs) when I purchased it. I do significant MS Office Professional use for research, writing, standards development, and have over one-hundred applications installed. Because it was originally an MS Windows 10 machine that was updated to 11-Pro over the years, it had become kludgier and slow to load applications--and developed some lock-up glitches. I purchased a new top of the line Desktop as its replacement but looked forward to the data transfer as much as I look forward to prepping for a Colonoscopy. After researching the available applications, I settled on Laplink PCmover Ultimate 11. I went ahead and purchased the high-speed USB cable to perform the process only because I have so many USB cables that have different wiring schemes I would rather not take a chance of using the wrong one. I studied the manual by reading and re-reading it. I realized that I would have to provide the codes for my MS apps, but was really hoping for a relatively painless transfer of approximately 2TB of data, apps, and settings and not having to re-customize application settings and menus. FUNCTIONALITY I believe that most folks that experience issues with the transfer process are the ones who DO NOT complete the rather robust checklist of tasks to complete prior to initiating the transfer process--and don’t pay enough attention to the specifics. There are settings and configurations that must be altered, programs (like Antivirus Apps, firewalls, backups, etc.) that must be uninstalled or disabled, and other steps that must be completed prior to starting. The list was straightforward and maybe took a couple of hours to complete. The analysis portion of the process took a couple of hours and then it produced a checklist of items it thought would go well, might go well, and wouldn’t go well at all. I found a couple of issues that I needed to take care of and then had it re-analyze. One item I found odd was that none of my MS Apps showed up – yet they transferred seamlessly, including lots of customized menus, settings, and shortcuts. The transfer process itself stated it would take about 9 hours, but it was completed in about 5 hours. VALUE Overall, I am very pleased with how well it worked. I really did not have any issues except for a Legacy multi-page bulk scanner that couldn’t handle 11Pro--and all support and software updates had previously been discontinued by the manufacturer. A good excuse for a new model. After entering many activation licenses, I was up and running without any difficulty—even odd and proprietary customized software worked like it had never been moved. I have not discovered any latent issues with the transfer. I have not had any contact with the manufacturer or received any gift, donation, credit, or money for this review. Best of all--my fear about the colonoscopy never materialized!

Software is fantastic-Customer Service even better!
I have used PCMover six or eight times over the last ten years. Always been extremely easy, even with my limited skills. After upgrading to a new laptop, I bought the 2-license kit so I could combine two laptops into one. And that's where, based on my inexperience, I started to struggle. I called LapLink Customer Service and it would have been easy to just say, sorry, too bad. Instead, they worked with me for an hour to make sure both of the old units had transferred correctly to the new one and everything was working exactly as I needed it. The software is worth every penny; the customer service is priceless!

Great but not perfect
This program literally saved me hours of transferring documents and reinstalling documents. That said, there were some glitches you should be aware of -- Microsoft Office needed reactivation and some programs did not transfer. Many documents were not copies over. I eventually copied over by Documents folder to make sure everything was on the new computer. The supplied pc-to-pc network cable did not work. I plugged the old and new machine into my router. Overall worthwhile to get you up and running on a new machine quickly but not perfect.

UPGRADED RATING: Relatively inexpensive software, but the company then attempts to scare you into expensive tech support
UPDATED: The transfer has now been completed. It was reasonably good at moving most things, but certainly not all things. It did not migrate our antivirus, printer software, or VPN software, for example, and it resulted in problems with the VPN that resulted in having to download special software from the VPN company that erases all traces of the software so I could start over on a reinstallation of the VPN. Simple uninstalls of the Epson printer software and antivirus (Zone Alarm) were all that was needed prior to a reinstallation of both of those, and Laplink's people told me ahead of time (during my final phone support) that the printer and antivirus/firewall software would not go across in the transfer - much appreciated heads up. With a bit more tweaking, I am now in good shape and very satisfied. It STILL beat taking the time to re-load each program, re-set up all the favorites in Firefox, etc., etc., etc. - IF I hadn't had all the other issues with them. One extraordinarily good aspect was my final phone support session with Laplink. I originally transferred from an older Windows 7 laptop to a newer laptop that had been upgraded to Windows 10 last year but not used since the upgrade except to check it out. After the transfer was finally completed over this past weekend, it APPEARED that we had a very good transfer. However, video problems with on-line streaming were a problem, and further research yielded the undisclosed fact (by Dell or Microsoft) that the computer wasn't certified for Windows 10, and never should have been upgraded. I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled the original Windows 7 configuration. I called back to Laplink and explained the situation, fearing that because I had already used the 1-time license for the transfer, I'd have to purchase another license. Instead, they listened to the information, and simply reset the serial number. I then went to telephone support due to an initial problem with the software, and the representative stayed on the line all the way through the set up, analysis, etc., to make certain the transfer initiated properly. This was by far ~the~ most impressive tech support session in my lifetime, and that spans from my first computer course (Fortran IV) in 1966. Despite some bugs in Version 11 (acknowledged by the last support rep), and the earlier "up-selling" problems that were serious turn-offs (see original review below), I have to acknowledge that in the end, the software did its job fairly well, and at least some of their tech support people do not try to sell the expensive "advanced technical support," and they actually provide tremendous support. I have upgraded an original 1-star review to three stars. If I had it to do over again, I don't think I'd go with version 11. The phone support tech had to install a previous version that eliminated the bug I encountered when I tried to re-do the transfer, and explained everything very thoroughly - highly impressive. Just don't get version 11. ORIGINAL: What the company does makes this an unacceptable piece of software. I backed up both computers, updated the operating system in the new (receiving) computer, and was read to go. I was short on time, so I called Laplink just to find out approximately how long the move might take, and was given an acceptable range after several intelligent questions they asked. So far, very impressed. Then the offered to at least run a scan of the two computers to make sure there wouldn't be any problems with the transfer, at no charge. Great! Seemed very impressive. I even had the thought that if they do this for anyone calling their "free" 24/7 support line, the price of the software is a massive bargain! Next came the major problem. They did find a number of registry and other unspecified problems using their software (they take control of both computers to run it of course). And suddenly we're talking "advanced technical support" at a minimum of $99 for a 14 day guarantee, and $199 for a full year. But no worries, they said, they could virtually guarantee that they'd be able to complete the transfer without any problems left over. I mentioned that I was beginning to run short on time and didn't have time today to do everything, and their offer was to just stay connected even after I left the house, and they've complete everything for me. Uh, no. I wanted to run my existing and (previously) trusted registry cleaner myself, and THEN see if there were problems before proceeding with the transfer. The pushy sales job for the "advanced technical support" (twice or four times as much as the software itself) started. I declined, partly out of the totally undisclosed "up-charges" that aren't mentioned anywhere on the product box, nor on the extremely skimpy printed instructions inside. But I also can't justify especially their premium support at an additional $200. I'm stuck - I can't return it to Amazon because I've opened the software and broken the seal on the CD package. I MIGHT be able to call them back and see about a refund from Laplink, but they say it will take 8 weeks, and previously said that was only when their software wouldn't work. So, is this review about software I haven't even installed yet? Absolutely - because they sell you the software and cable for about $50 on Amazon (more from the company direct), and only when you call them do they immediately try to "up-sell" you on "advanced technical support," trying to scare the user into accepting their "guaranteed" support. And yes, I AM concerned about what will happen if the transfer doesn't work, since I subsequently learned that my registry software is no longer supported past Windows 7 (the computer I'm migrating to a Windows 10 computer), and according to Laplink's initial tech support (the free part that tries to become $100 or $200 support), my Windows 10 computer also has "significant" errors on it," and they specifically recommended AGAINST doing the transfer until the problems are resolved - by them - at a hefty price. So yes, this review is about the software and the company behind it - which I've always thought was a fully trustworthy company, to be honest. But now I see how they justify selling the software and cable for a relatively low price - they strong arm customers into paying for previously undisclosed additional technical support and tell you that they "cannot recommend" a transfer at this time, based on the problems they found. That's poor business, and a relatively useless product. Heck - how do I know the diagnostics they did are even accurate, or even worse, whether they're intentionally misleading in order to up-sell the additional tech support? I could not be more disappointed (and frustrated). I picked Laplink because of their long-standing reputation, only to get what seems to be a very sleazy way of extracting considerably more money from customers. I'm willing to bet that almost ANY well used computer will show considerable registry issues, and that becomes a "we cannot recommend transfer at this time." What a dilemma to put customers in. Some might call that extortion....

Easy move from old laptop to new one,
I have used Laplink for my last four laptop moves. Microsoft can do some things, but it cannot copy my programs and licenses like Laplink does. I used my high-speed USB cable from the last move for this one. Everything was transferred in less than two hours. It makes moving from an old laptop to a new one so easy. Worth the money for the time savings and ease of copying all files. It also lts' you know if some programs and files cannot be copied.

Excellent technical assistance if you need it.
Laplink PCmover was my choice of products because of the various versions from which to choose. Ones that would accommodate my specific configuration, and provide the same quality performance I have previously received from this company. The process was well spelled out with specific actions to take, then turn it over to the application. Once completed, (it really did take awhile) I was ready to experience my new computer. As I was checking the status of apps, I noticed that some were not responding or were just not there. I tried the "chat" program and was PLEASANTLY surprise when they came on to help with valid checks to ensure my system was doing ok. The first to help with exact instructions was Cecille. She stepped me through actions I needed to take to correct the issue that had been presented. We got to the condition where I needed to perform steps that would take a long time and reboots. She was sure to provide me with detailed instructions and informed me that I'd receive an email of the conversation and the next steps. As I was moving through the steps, I encountered another problem ... then Desiree took over and guided me to a successful completion. All in all, It was a satisfying encounter and made the errors in the process seem not too bad. I was certain the help I received was quality assistance and it worked out great. Thank you for the product and the excellent service.

Does not transfer encrypted document files
I used this software to transfer nearly half a GB of files and apps from an 8 year old Windows 10 computer to a new Windows 11 computer. Using the Laplink ethernet cable the transfer time was less than 3 hours. For the most part, the transfer worked amazingly well, and I do recommend this software. I had a lot of apps installed on the older computer and it would have taken a huge amount of time to download and install each app individually on my new computer. I'd give this software a 5 star rating except for one thing. The old computer had over a thousand document files that it did not transfer to the new computer. What's worse, there were no error messages or warnings. Here's how I discovered this problem. As I began using the new computer I noticed that an Excel file I needed to revised was missing. I located the file in a folder on the old computer but it was not on the new computer. Comparing the number of files on each computer, I discovered that nearly 3% ( (around 1200 of about 35,000 files) of my document files were not installed on the new computer. I tried repeating the transfer, but it made no difference. The files simply didn't transfer. Laplink technical support (by chat) was unable to explain the reason some files didn't transfer. They kept asking me to try the transfer again, which didn't help. I wound up sending technical support a transfer log file, but that didn't lead to a solution. Working by chat and email was slow, so I tried the phone support number. My calls to the support phone line simply went to voice mail, so be aware that the phone support is weak. I finally got a support call scheduled for three days in the future. But in the mean time, I asked an IT professional to help me figure out the problem. He discovered that all the missing files had one thing in common. They were encrypted on the old computer. He unencrypted all the document files on the old computer and then we transferred them to the new computer using a USB drive. Problem solved! I'm very surprised that the Laplink software totally ignored the encrypted document files. There should have been some instructions or warnings to deal with this situation. I'm also surprised that Laplink technical support didn't realize that encrypted files could be the cause of the problem, focusing instead on anti-virus software as a potential cause. I hope that this review will help others who may encounter this problem. And I sincerely hope that Laplink support will read this review and add this information to their technical support training manual.

All in all, did a good job
Provided a very thorough migration of files, applications and settings, but it was very sloooow: took over 19 hours for about 250 gigs of content. And getting the fancier version of PCmover--Ultimate, which came with a so-called "Superspeed" cable--seems to have been pointless, because the system identified my relatively slow wifi as being a faster transfer mode than the cable.
