Excellent Overview of Orthopedic Massage Theory and Technique (required text for Lowe's innovative e-course training)
I am a licensed massage therapist with a fair amount of advanced training. Certain books, videos, and workshops--such as Art Riggs Deep Tissue Massage book and video series, James Waslaski's Orthopedic Massage workshop series, and the CORE Institute's Sports Massage and Myofascial Therapy workshops--have been instrumental in shaping my practice. I am now studying with Whitney Lowe. His books and recently launched continuing education e-course(s) are enabling me to deepen my understanding of orthopedic massage and to feel more confident in my ability to recognize and treat pathology (as well as to know when a referral is the most appropriate treatment). Lowe's books and training emphasize understanding kinesiology as applied to pain conditions, selecting massage techniques based upon physiological principles (the focus of this text), and using appropriate assessments related to specific pathologies (the focus of his new text, Orthopedic Assessment in Massage Therapy). Lowe is not only an accomplished therapist and author, he is also an incredible educator who makes himself accessible to students as their learning progresses. I am grateful for the opportunity to study with him, as I believe his work enables us to become better therapists, ultimately enhancing the reputation of therapeutic massage as a viable health care option.(See [...]for information on Lowe's innovative e-course series.)

I am still trying to figure out why this wasn't ...
I am still trying to figure out why this wasn't an assigned text at the massage school I just graduated from in 2015. After six months in practice, it was clear to me that there were several holes in my training as an LMT (in a state that requires a 1000 hour program!). So many clients turn to massage to help cope with their chronic and acute pain, and this book bridges the gaps between kinesiology, pathology, and massage technique. I was shocked how short the book was, but after finishing it, I feel so much more confident in my ability to truly help people with soft tissue issues. I plan on furthering my education with Lowe's orthopedic massage program because of how impressed I was with this text.

Great book!
I learned of this book through my massage school (The Lauterstein Conway School of Massage rocks!) though it was not one of our required text books. During classes I noticed some of the instructors used it as a reference so I asked about it. and then bought a copy. It is extremely helpful with great pictures and easy to follow. If you have had any massage instruction it is very easy to read. I hope the school decides to make this book one of their required texts.

Oh! its very nice book and amazing all information I needed is there except that one I encountered during my massage session. His foot was extended and no power cannot flex up or dorsal flex. His foot was hanging when stepping up during walking and dragging touching the ground. I would want to ask the author Mr. Whitney Lowe about this problem since this is not included in his book under the foot & ankle pathologist section of the book... Librado

Orthopedic Massage
This book was a great resource for my class on orthopedic massage at Cortiva Institute. I like the way she divides the book into areas of the body. Muscles are reviewed, assessments explained, cautions pointed out and treatments suggested. Homework for clients is also suggested. I highly recommend this book for someone entering the field of massage therapy.

Great Book
I think this is a great book to review when a client calls in to make an appointment with a specific request. It is hard to remember everything and having this book in my office to review helps me to best help my clients.
