Winner of the James Beard Award for Photography In a keepsake volume, Gabriele Galimbertiโs beautiful portraits of grandmothers from all over the world with their signature recipes illustrates the universal language of food and family. On the eve of a photography trip around the world, Gabriele Galimberti sat down to dinner with his grandmother Marisa. As she had done so many times before, she prepared his favorite ravioli. The care with which she prepared this meal, and the pride she took in her dish, led Gabriele to seek out grandmothers and their signature dishes in the sixty countries he visited. These vibrant and intimate profiles and photographs pay homage to grandmothers and their cooking everywhere. From a Swedish housewife and her homemade lox and vegetables to a Zambian villager and her Roasted Spiced Chicken, this collection features a global palate: included are hand-stuffed empanadas from Argentina, twice-fried pork and vegetables from China, slow-roasted ratatouille from France, and a decadent toffee trifle from the United States. In Her Kitchen is an evocative, loving portrait of these cherished family members and the ways they return that affection--no matter where in the world you sit down for dinner.

Beautiful book.
This book is absolutely beautiful, as much a coffee table book as a cookbook. The recipes are awesome too!!!

Beautiful and unusual
I received a copy of this book as a gift (thank you, Diletta) and now have purchased it as a gift to others. The photography is lovely and the recipes are cool. Itโs a fantastic gift for those who collect cookbooks, love photography and enjoy cooking.

Super easy directions and excellent photos!!
This cookbook is AMAZING!!! There are photos of the "grandmothers" with the raw ingredients and photos of the finished product. It's so nice to have a little bit of info about each of the women whose recipes are featured in the book; it gives you a sense of connection. The recipes were easy to follow and alternatives were offered for ingredients that may not be readily available to everyone. I read through the entire book as soon as I received it and am really looking forward to making some new and delicious recipes!!!The only thing I would suggest is to include recipes from different countries in any subsequent books.

Fascinating! Beautiful Book!
Just went through EVERY photograph of this book. It is a gift for my culinary daughter. There are short bios of each grandmother. They are standing in their kitchens, proudly displaying the ingredients of a recipe. The full recipe is on the next pages after their photograph. Loved it! Excellent quality from this seller.

Beautiful kitchen top book.
This is a beautiful book for your kitchen or coffee table. It has great stories from loving grandmothers across the world that show their love through cooking. I have not made any of the recipes in this book, but I love to sit and look at the beautiful women and their stories.

Visiting Grandmas All Over The World
Outstanding book, quality photos, excellent presentation. I loved the stories, and might try the recipes, might not. More cultural than cookbook. We need more books like this.

Dont expect this to be a cookbook. More of an overview of various cuisines.
It is a gorgeous book. The stories are wonderful and it gives you a homey feeling. However, I mistakenly purchased this book as an intro into foreign cuisine. The first (and only) recipe I tried was the ravioli and swiss chard. It went horribly wrong somehow, the dough for the ravioli was dry and crumbly so I stopped cooking and opted for take out instead. It seemed like a simple recipe even though it did call for three hours simmer time for the meat sauce. I'm usually a good cook but this was a disaster. It's a good coffee table book though.

A lovely book.
This is a lovely book. As Gabriele Galimberti travelled the world for a magazine project he visited someone's grandmother in each place, cooked with her, and took photos. This began as a way to reassure his own grandmother that he would not starve to death on his travels but became a beautiful book. Each grandmother has four pages; one shows her in her kitchen with the ingredients, the next a picture of the food, the third gives us a biography of the grandmother, and the fourth gives the recipe.I had a lot of fun trying to guess where each grandmother lived from the two photos before turning to the third page! And almost all of the recipes are things I could cook in my own kitchen, as doubtless will, as these are real women cooking for their families.
