Have you had TRUFF? If not, GET IT. It is too good. A coworker showed me this sauce and now I have 2 bottles and introduced it to my wife and she loves it. It felt like the scene from the Odyssey where Odysseus is tied to the mast and hearing the Sirens sing. "It told you what you most want is what you most can't have. And that the thing you can't have is what you already have and lost" It is a hot sauce without an obnoxious amount of heat. But the flavor is very powerful and tasty. Very well balanced sauce. Its easy to pour out without dumping it all out at once. The color is a deep red. Its not cheap, but it taste so darn good.

I picked this up because I wanted something convenient to keep around for quick meals or snacks, especially while living at college. I’ve been happy with it overall, and it’s something that’s easy to have available when I don’t have a lot of time. The flavor and texture are enjoyable, and I like that it’s something I can easily grab when I’m hungry. It’s especially convenient for busy days when I’m going between classes, studying, or just relaxing in my dorm. The packaging is another plus. It’s easy to store and doesn’t require much extra space, which is important in a dorm where storage can be limited. Depending on the food, it’s also convenient to throw in a backpack or bring along while traveling.

I was beyond excited to get this hot sauce. I like hot sauce, not because of the extreme heat, but because of the unique flavors they can have. This particular sauce is definitely unique. First off, I will say they have an extremely effective marketing team, which I will admit, spurred me to wanting to try this sauce. I will also add that I’m not a truffle connoisseur by any means...I’m not sure I’ve even eaten a truffle, in any form, before. With that being said, I was a little taken aback by the aroma when I cracked open the bottle. It’s not a bad smell, just...different. I can’t even begin to describe what it tastes like. It’s so foreign to me. The initial taste is sweet, not overly, just subtle. Then just when I think it’s not for me, the heat kicks in and the chilis change the flavor profile completely. Then it’s like “what in the world just happened?”. Back for another taste and the same thing happens. I’ve waited to write this review because I can’t seem to put my finger on what it is about this sauce that has me so intrigued. It’s good, but it’s not eye poppingly good like the adverts suggest..and yet it is just so different than anything I’ve tasted before. It is also probably one of the most versatile hot sauces out there. It’s almost like it’s profile changes to suit whatever you’re eating it on and slightly enhances the food. I gave it a 4 for flavor because it’s just a weird flavor...i initially wanted 3.5 but 4 seemed fair. I give it 5 for versatility because of what I mentioned and a 5 because I can’t think of a more giftable hot sauce out there. It’s almost on level with a novelty gift or a gift your aunt brings you after her vacation in a foreign country. It’s the type of thing you can pull out at a party of have everyone interested and wanting to try it.

Do you like trying gourmet and unique hot sauces? Do you like the taste of truffles (or more specifically, truffle oil)? If the answer to both of these questions is yes, then you need to stop and give this a try! Now, before we proceed, I should denote that as of me writing this review, there are three varieties of hot sauces currently offered by TRUFF, and they are: Black, White, and Red. I'll put all my reviews together to help you compare: BLACK: Black truffles have an earthier flavor profile, and this translates to the hot sauce quite well - though I feel like it gets somewhat muted by the sweetness of the agave nectar (which is not necessarily a bad thing). In terms of heat, I would rate this around 'medium' on a simple scale, but note that the heat can build a bit if you consume it in large direct quantities. I feel like it works great both as a drizzled topping, a dip, or mixed in to things like soups and other sauces. Start here if you've never tried TRUFF before. WHITE: White truffles have a brighter and more delicate flavor profile, and in my opinion brings a more pronounced 'truffle-like' flavor to this version. In terms of both heat and sweetness, I would say it's extremely comparable to the black variety. I personally preferred this one better, although the price tag makes it hard for me to use regularly. I would say this is worth it only for when you need the hot sauce to be the main focus (i.e., drizzled on top of something, or used as a dip). Otherwise, the subtle differences of white truffles will get lost, and you'll be left wondering why this version was twice the cost! RED: This is the hotter version, also using black truffle oil. In my opinion, this one is absolutely the best of the three! I’m a sucker for hotter sauces and this one is fantastic. All the same truffle flavors and characteristics from the Black version come through strong, but this sauce is slightly less sweet (though still has some sweetness) and much hotter. I think Red is now my ultimate go-to of the three TRUFF sauces, I’m already through my second bottle as of writing this. Cannot recommend enough!

Let's get this out of the way, if you've never had black truffle before, familiarize yourself with it before you spend 18 bucks on a bottle of hot sauce. Black truffle has a very unique flavor and aroma. If you're a picky eater then this flavor probably isn't for you. Black truffle is the major player in this sauce. It's up front and in your face. It's about 80 percent of the flavor profile of this sauce followed with some sweetness and something else I can't put my finger on. I wish there was a little more complexity in the flavors. One thing I love.....it's not as hot as other hot sauces. I love heat but sometime in my mid 30s heat stopped loving me. Too much Sriracha usually left me doubled over on the toilet the next morning wondering why "it" burns so bad. I can get generous with this sauce and not have that problem. The bottle plain blows. The mouth is wide and lacks a stopper so when you pour some on you get quite a bit that runs down the bottle and ends up as waste. Those not familiar with the wide opening will end up pouring a quarter of the bottle on their meal before they realize what they have done. I'm on my second bottle now and I don't plan to buy another until they fix the opening due to waste.

This is my all time favorite hot sauce. The flavor is so good and a little different from your typical hot sauce with the hint of truffle. It has a nice balance of heat without being overpowering, so it adds flavor without taking over the whole dish. I use it on everything from eggs to pizza. If you like trying something a little more elevated, this is definitely worth it.

If you're here for heat, look elsewhere. If you're here for flavor, buy with confidence assuming you enjoy truffles. This is absolutely fantastic. I couldn't say how many hot sauces I've bought and sampled over the years, but without question I'd put this in my top 5 as far as flavor is concerned. The truffle aspect is pronounced, but it's not the only thing you'll notice on the palate. I wouldn't have thought agave would go with the ingredients, but it's a nice touch, and the overall presentation is exceptional. Packaging is often an afterthought, but there is a lot of attention to detail here. The cap looking like a truffle is another distinctive factor. A few months back, I ended up doing a hot sauce tasting with a lineup of ~12 sauces with varying scoville ratings. (Similar to hot ones) Six people participated, and five of us chose this sauce as their personal favorite. The last person placed it a close second. Would be nice if this was a little cheaper, but it's not a local product and I get that truffle oil isn't exactly an inexpensive ingredient. Will definitely be a repeat customer.
