Perfect for this lazy crafter!
Fun fact #1: I LOVE crafting...I love learning new skills, and making things for my home, my friends, my family, my Facebook feed, etc...Fun fact #2: I am lazy, and procrastinate often. I often buy crafting materials that sit around in my ever-growing stash waiting for me to become inspired enough by Pinterest, or Instagram to actually heave myself from my comfy spot on the couch, and make the thing.Fun fact #3: This scorch marker is SO easy to use! And it has near instant results! And I was able to make a test project of four monogrammed wooden coasters, using a stencil, the marker, and a heat gun in less than 20 minutes. My lazy, crafty self did a little dance...I swear! After I was done, had admired the results, and had sent pictures to my contact list for affirmation of cute-and-craftiness, I flipped them all over and added my initials and the date. I then popped them in a 350F oven and checked them after 5 minutes. My maker's mark was visible, but not quite dark enough, so I left them in for another minute or two before I was satisfied with the results. The original design on the front deepened in color, but the surrounding wood didn't darken. All kidding aside, the marker is easy to use. It worked well with my plastic stencils, and with my flimsier vinyl stencils. It works as described with a heat gun, and it worked fine in the oven, too. (I had to play with that method a bit as there are no directions for it on the package, nor was I able to find any online...even YouTube let me down!) I foresee a few more "faux-pyrography" projects in my future...a few wooden signs with smartass quotes, maybe a set of mixing spoons, a cutting board or two, a picture frame, or some wooden jewelry. It IS a pricey marker, I don't know how much mileage I will get out of the pen, but you don't need much to make a big impact either.

Surprisingly amazing!
I was skepital at first. The heat i ordered to use with it just didnt seem to work with the marker. I thought maybe i wasted my my money on them. Then i decided to use the big gun and it worked instantly. That being said, i think i have my new hobby. The small heat gun just didn't get hot enough to create the chemical reaction. The only thing i wish is that the marker color (when applying to the wood) was slightly darker. It made it hard to see on light wood- almost invisivle.

Meh...not all it’s cracked up to be.
The idea behind it is nice but it doesn’t work as well as we had hoped. Good enough I guess but I won’t bother buying another one. This one came leaking and I cleaned it up and used it anyway, worked ok that time, however, it began leaking the very next use. I’ve only used it to write my last name twice. Not worth the money if you ask me.

Cool product but not as much ink as I'd hoped
Easy to use. Turned pink when applied to wood. First picture is before burning, second is after. Burned using a heat gun for approx. 20-30 min. You need a high-powered heat gun, but be careful! The wood gets hot. The longer you apply heat, the darker the burned wood is.Only complaint is that it took a lot of the pen for the design and the chisel tip wore away and buffed out toward the end.Would recommend taping your design to make precise lines. I stenciled the design using pencil and filled it in with the pen. You can see some of the lines aren't as straight because it's difficult to see the pink ink before heat is applied. All in all, good product. Would recommend. If you have a large product, buy more than one pen.

CHANGING THE GAME
Wow! I ordered this and something happened with 2 day delivery. I ordered it for some ideas about signing my woodwork agter seeing other applications of it on Instagram. I was pretty anxious to get it and the wait was unbearable! So it came and I rushed to go try it out. I used it on a small piece of unfinished, unsanded 2×2. It worked perfectly and gave the desired results. So now I'll be using it on sanded wood as that's what it's going to nees to get the desired effect. I have some great ideas of using templates for this, using it as a marker in colored art to buikd shadows, throwing in a 3D effect on other art. The fluidity of this marker is amazing and it will add new creations to the market like never before! So it's well worth the price in my opinion and does exactly what it says.It can be used by anyone, just sand the surface first with a fine grit. My kids are ready to use it even!Get the marker and make cool things with your family.Get the marker and make amazing things for your clients!Enjoy the Scorch!

Incredibly unimpressed with the Scorch marker
In theory, this product was great. In practice, it was a disaster. I wanted to do some wood burning on old barn wood but would be working around small children and didn't want to risk having a hot iron around them, so this seemed like the perfect solution. After applying my stencil to the wood, I filled in the design with the pen, and it seemed to work perfectly, right up to the moment I removed the stencil and saw that the fluid from the marker had bled far beyond the borders of the stencil, making my design illegible. My first assumption was that the problem was because the wood was old and dry, therefore it sucked up the fluid, so I found a piece of fresh wood and tried the pen on it. Initially, it seemed like I was going to have slightly better results - not great, but better - the fluid still bled but not nearly as bad. Then, I got out my heat gun to make the magic happen, and the truth of how shoddy this product is was revealed. By the time the wood-fluid combination made any mark on the wood, the area around the design without the Scorch marker was burned almost as dark as the area with it. In the end, I would have been far better off using almost any other method to make the signs I wanted to make and wish I hadn't wasted my time and money on this product.
