How large are the holes in the mesh? Are they 1 inch?

I believe mine is 3/4" possibly 1/2". It is really stretched out. For sure it is not 1". Mine is very heavy duty! It is perfect for my birds because we have a major raptor problem. It holds up in all the storms including winter snow. Birds have not tangled in it. The smaller holes also help keep out sparrows.

Can this netting be used to cover blueberry bushes? Does it snag easily?

We are using to cover strawberries and it is not snagging the plants. Also does not cling to itself when pulled back over itself (if that makes sense!) Take seriously that it is a challenge to stretch netting to its 25X25ft size!

Can this netting be used as netting for a batting cage?

NO, its not strong enough for a batting cage. It's a nice net for bird netting and I used it to cover my pond & water fall.

When installed, do the netting holes align in rectangular or diagonal pattern?

Rectangular, but I did find the net I received was more a parallelogram than a rectangle. This seems to be common complaint and I don't want to even ask how... Luckily I had a large field I could spread the net out. When installed, I used rectangular layout of the holes and cut odd edges away. Buy the clips... you need them. Staples did not work well, even large gauge. Net is very strong btw.
