Must read in a lifetime
Without a doubt this is my best book of 2026 so far....🙌🏻🥂I started this book expecting old Hollywood glamour and messy celebrity marriages... But instead what I got was a story about love, ambition, sacrifice, grief, identity, and the impossible choices people make just to survive....every character of this books is beautifully written..Evelyn Hugo is one of the most unforgettable female characters I've ever read...She's bold😍 unapologetic, intelligent, ambitious, and beautifully flawed... She never asks for forgiveness for doing what she had to do, and that's exactly why I admired her...She walked through a world determined to judge and control her yet she carried herself with so much confidence underneath the glamorous image was simply a woman trying to protect the people she loved...And then there's Harry cameron..ma sheila🫶🏻He was Evelyn's family, her home, and the one person who truly understood her...His love was so pure and selfless that it broke my heart over and over again..He sacrificed so much for the people he loved without ever asking for anything in return...he deserved so much more than life gave him..i wish everyone gets a harry for atleast once in their lifetime🫂 Now, comes to Don Adler...🤮i don't think I've hated a fictional character this much in a long time....Every time he appeared, I felt angry...The way he treated Evelyn, the manipulation, the violence, the constant need to control her it made my blood boil...& i'll happily spend the rest of my life being a Don Adler hater...ughhhh Now lastly Celia st. James 🫶🏻 the girl you're 🙌🏻💗I love her everything..And the bond between her & evelyn was messy, complicated..frustrating & painfully beautiful..they hurt each other, they misunderstood each other, and sometimes they let fear make decisions for them..but beneath every argument was a love that never disappeared...watching them find each other, lose each other, and somehow keep finding their way back completely shattered me...They weren't perfect lovers, but they were soulmates in every way that mattered..By the final chapters, I wasn't reading anymore i was grieving...I closed this book & just stared at the cover, trying to accept that Evelyn Hugo wasn't real...Somehow, she felt like someone I had actually known..it felt like I had been trusted with her entire life, her biggest secrets, her greatest loves, and her deepest regrets...Thank you..'Evelyn Hugo'for reminding me that people can be beautifully complicated, fiercely loving, and impossibly unforgettable...💗

Awesome Book!
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is an opulent tale of love, ambition, and fame set against the glitz and shadows of Hollywood’s Golden Age. It tells the story of the glamorous yet fiercely independent Evelyn Hugo, a starlet whose personal journey spans decades, marriages, and profound self-transformation. What makes this novel truly unforgettable is Evelyn herself: flawed, fiercely human, and unapologetically bold. Reid crafts a devilishly compelling character who remains relatable even as she makes morally complex decisions. The framing device—a journalist named Monique, chosen to tell Evelyn’s story—adds intrigue and layers of poignancy, ultimately linking their lives in unexpected ways. Reid’s lush yet accessible prose divides the story into sections corresponding to Evelyn’s seven husbands, each representing a phase in her evolution. Through these relationships, the novel explores societal norms, personal sacrifices, and the cost of survival in an unforgiving world. While the glittering world of Hollywood serves as the novel’s backdrop, its core themes are universal: the pursuit of love in all its forms, the search for identity, and the toll of ambition. The representation of LGBTQ+ relationships is heartfelt and beautifully written, offering voices to stories often erased from history. If there’s a slight drawback, it’s that Monique’s storyline feels less developed compared to Evelyn’s richly detailed narrative. Still, this minor issue doesn’t detract from the book’s overall impact. In summary, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a haunting and unforgettable read that will stay with you long after the final page. Perfect for fans of historical fiction, richly drawn characters, and poignant love stories.

Historic Fiction With Strong Female Characters
A beautifully written book with strong female characters and a great story! I buddy-read this one, and we could not put it down once we started reading it. Evelyn Hugo is one of the best fictional characters I have read about in a long time. This is my second book from Taylor Jenkin’s Reid (TJR) and one thing I noticed in both books is how she writes various characters in depth and has a way of making them feel relatable. As a reader, I understood each character’s nature and the reason for their decisions. Evelyn Hugo is unapologetic, ambitious, and passionate and will do whatever she must to protect her career and the people she loves. As much as this book is about Evelyn, it is also about her relationships and the one defining relationship of her life. Each character develops and grows as the story moves forward, and I love how TJR has captured this in her writing. I enjoyed the historical fiction side of it, exploring the nature of Hollywood from the 1950s to the 1980s, how it was for women, and how it was for an LGBTQ+ person. The story is interspersed with tabloid articles of Evelyn from her time as an actress and the chapters she is narrating to Monique. It was amusing to read how far apart the tabloid gossip and the actual truth were. I haven’t mentioned anything about her seven husbands in the review because none of them stood out to me except Harry Cameron, and if you have read this book, let me know if you felt this too. This is a book about relationships, love, loss, and loyalty. I highly recommend this book to historical fiction and romance lovers! This is easily one of my top reads from 2022.

Captivating read
Moving and captivating. Heartbreaking and real. The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo was a joy to read. I loved getting to know the main character and how her and the other characters’ stories unfolded. Taylor Jenkins Reid really captured the magnificence of Evelyn Hugo so brilliantly, I was completely bewitched by the character, just as I imagined her fans were with her in the book.

One of the best books I’ve ever read!
This is such an interesting book from the beginning because I’ve never read something from the point of view (at first) of a journalist interviewing her subject, but it’s so much more than just that. Evelyn wants Monique to write her story so bad that you can’t help but question why, and then when they begin their journey the question that hooks you up is “who was the love of Evelyn’s life?”. But then her story and her journey and her character development is so amazing that even when that question is answered you don’t wanna stop. This book makes you feel like you’re getting to know someone in your life in a way that we not often have the opportunity to. I fell in love with Evelyn, I resented her, I admired her, and I understood her throughout this book, and I felt close to her. This book is beautifully written, and carries a intricate, beautiful, complicated story. It’s worth every penny and every single second of your time.
