This Book and Author saved My Life!
This amazing book will teach you how to overcome about degenerative issue out there and teach you the root cause. If you know the origins you can start to repair at the source instead of trying to patch the symptoms as most standard medicine would do, 5 or 6 metabolic steps down the line, causing a cascade of other health issues. What happen when those patches stop working or cause other health issues? Today's standard of medicine is a night mirror, a ticking time bomb! Get the book and learn how to heal yourself. Otherwise you will find your doctor guessing on your behalf. I spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on my health, nearly bankrupting myself, over 40 doctors and universities researching on my behalf, don't let this be you, and if it has been, now is your opportunity to change that. God bless you on your journey! "The Edge Effect," should be a part of everyone's library.Dr Braverman's teachings really do work, I am living proof of that. Miracle happens every day with this doctor. He personally called me less than a month ago and ask," Hey Calvin is that miracle we started still taking place in your life?" I said, "Yes." What doctor does that? What doctor expects that? Integrity is at the heart of this mans practice. No matter what you have wrong he starts with the brain and then does various different scans of your whole body including an ultra sound of every organ. Once he gets the whole picture, he puts people back together, instead of guessing like most doctors. Then he tells you which organs have aged the most and how to reverse the damage naturally before it become a chronic issue. With me he found that I had -3 Osteoporosis. That is one marker away from total bone failure, in a wheel chair. A 90 year old bone structure at age 27 in a male! Then he taught me how to reverse it. In an 8 month period I went from a -3 to a -1.4, for anyone reading this who has osteoporosis, they know that that is next to impossible. This doctor is on top of his game. In another 14 months I hope to no longer have the issue at all."Thank you; Dr Eric Braverman and medical team in NYC, for the miracle that you have played a large part in bringing about in my life. Every day, I wake up with a since of gratitude and amazement for the night to day improvement and the standard of life that has been returned to me. I can now sit at the dinner table and eat dinner with my family, whereas before I could not. I can be around friends and family members and laugh and play games. I can be at church and not feel pain and serve and help others. Before I came to PATH Medical I had had over 40 doctors tell me that there was nothing more that could be done for me, through words and their void of actions. My symptoms (muscular atrophy, constant pain levels of 9-10) had driven me into isolation for 3 years, I could hardly leave a room. I had never been one to buy into despair or the theory that nothing more could be done. For every negative there is a positive one could not exist without the other. For me it was always a matter of finding that positive and people that believed that same concept. Then and only then I knew I would get better. I found that at PATH Medical in NYC. Thank you!To anyone reading this who has chronic health issues, save yourself some time & pain, go to PATH Medical and get better, stop taking excuses from other doctors. My pain levels are down from a constant daily 9-10 range (Thats like breaking your arm 5-10 times a day and having someone constantly bumping it, day in and day out) to 0-1 range after a year. No pain medications! They simply taught me what my body needed in order to be able to heal. Dr Eric Braverman's PATH Medical has answers! They combine medicine and the latest technology in brain health from counties around the world with vitamins & nutrients, like amino acids, the basic building blocks of the human body and get people well. When you understand where problems begin metabolically you can start at the source and correct the issue, from the point of the root cause, rather than treating the symptoms 5 or 6 metabolic steps down. When we see nutrition brought back to medicine, we will see more people getting well, until then we will continue to hear excuses and have doctors paint pictures of why it can't be done. Don't be afraid to fire your doctor, I fired 40 of them, and luckily found PATH Medical, who had answers and saved my life. Very few people ever bounce back from where I was at. Dr Braverman is medically 100 years a head of his time. Thank you!

I found this book absolutely fascinating and inspiring.
It made me want to learn everything about this topic, which is saying a lot because neurotransmitters are a mysterious and vast topic to take on.It was decently written, perhaps a few typos, no biggie.I did the assessment but was unable to apply the protocols because I couldn't make sense of them. I keep getting stumped on two points and I wonder if anybody has figured them out. (Probably some gaba-deficient-error on my part.)I understand there is a Dominant Nature. In my case, clearly acetylcholinergic. This fit perfectly with my Meyers-Briggs Personality type, as it turned out. This was one of the aspects of the book that most fascinated me: that our personalities may be a result of our neurotransmitter profile and our hormone levels, what we eat and don't eat. Our PERSONALITIES! This notion has had me deeply pondering since I read it and I love to deeply ponder. There may be a Dominant Nature Deficiency. In my case, it's Dopa that is more that 15 points below the Acetylcholine-Dominant Nature. This is where confusion sets in.The Dopa, in my case,or whichever in other cases, being more than 15 points lower than the Dominant Nature means that the Dopa is deficient or that, in my case, the Acetylcholine is deficient? When we say Dominant Nature Deficiency, to what are we actually referring? I'm lost on this. Then there is the Deficient Score, in my case, Gaba. That part is clear. Well, except that the Gaba section consisted of more questions that the other sections, so won't most people come out low in gaba because there's a higher chance of getting a higher score?! Although Gaba deficiency makes sense to me about me. But still, why more questions for this one section? That does not make sense to me.What's not clear is how to correct either Deficient Score because all the treatment protocols in the book are organized according to Dominant Nature.I recall that he gave instructions on prioritizing the treatment of one deficiency over the other to start but I never could understand how to translate the Dominant Nature protocols in the chapters to address deficiencies; whether one is to eat according to one's Dominant Nature or one's deficiencies.I could not find anywhere in the book where the protocols were given for deficiencies, only for Dominant Nature. If these points were clear to you, would you be kind enough to explain it to me.The last chapter about the machine thingy seemed to be slapped on as an afterthought, just like this sentence. Thanks thanks!I feel like a dodo :o)

AMAZING - This Book Provides the Tools to CURE just about Everything!
This book is a gift from Heaven! I've had heart problems most of my life, that is until a friend told me about The Edge Effect. I completed the 2 tests in the book to find my dominant and deficient brain chemicals and then read what Dr. Braverman wrote about the chemical deficiency I had. It was as if he wrote it just for me. I had almost every symptom on his list. Dr. Braverman (my hero!), provides a list of traditional medications, natural supplements and a list of foods that are rich in each brain chemical so we can treat ourselves via a method that appeals to each individual. By adding 2 natural supplements and a few tweaks to my diet, I was cured! I have purchased over a dozen copies of this book which I've loaned to many friends and family members. I don't get them back (hence buying a dozen copies), LOL! This is a book I recommend to nearly every person I meet who mentions an illness or chronic condition they are struggling with. It's not just for physical problems. Many years after I purchased this book I found myself feeling unusually depressed, so I repeated the 2nd test in the book which reveals the deficiency and found I was deficient in a different chemical. I immediately went to the list of foods he provided that are rich in that chemical and realized I had cut them all out of my diet while trying to become vegetarian! Thankfully he provided some meatless alternatives so I was able to cure my depression with the addition of a yummy treat. If you have any illness, pain, chronic condition be it emotional, mental or physical, BUY THIS BOOK!!!

Seductive book, but...
This is a seductive book on an interesting subject, but I felt rather disappointed by the book. None of its suppositions are backed up by references to case studies or clinical tests and much of its conclusions seem too simplistic and questionable. I get the impression that this book was primarily written to reap maximal sales from mass market buyers, hungry for the latest would-be cure-all solution.Additional points: I'm amazed that this book about neurotransmitters can contain no discussion of noradrenaline/norepinephrine or norepinephrine/adrenaline. You won't find these in the book's index. That is just too weird for me, considering that so many people's problems are alleviated by modifying the amount of these neurotransmitters. I also feel that the book's questionnaires need rethinking. Too many of the questions are too open to differing interpretations. Questions such as "My imagination takes over. (true or false?)" could be interpreted in any number of ways. I feel that more thought should have gone into the instructions regarding how to interpret the questions and how to choose one's answers. For one questionnaire, it instructs us to answer the questions in the light of how we feel at the present moment. However, many people have days when their mental/emotional state is not typical for them, and will be aware that they would answer a question differently on a different day. After completing the questionnaires, the book gave me recommendations that simply do not reflect what I have found from practical experience. It tells me I am deficient in serotonin, but I have found that boosting my serotonin has adverse effects on my well-being. In actual practice, I've found that a norepinephrine boost is what helps me most. However, norepinephrine is completely overlooked by this book - very strange! Nevertheless, I'm glad I purchased the book, which raised some questions I want to follow up with judicious research. The book lacks any internal references - or even a bibliography, which is not very helpful. There is no Author Bio either, so I guess the Author expects his readers to trust this book though blind faith! Be aware of the publication date of this book. Neuroscience has moved on since 2004.

Sounds crazy but works
The idea that personalities and behaviors can be determined by the balance of 4 neurotransmitters sounds a bit far fetched... and then to say that most diseases (except ones that are largely genetic) are also caused by imbalances and deficiencies... well that sounds a bit like phrenology, or that medieval belief that your body had to be balanced with blood, black bile, yellow bile and phlegm... it sounds so simple that it's almost gimmicky. But the thing is, it works! Doing the tests in the book, and reading about the ailments and being told your "type" is kind of creepy. It's like reading a horoscope that is impossibly accurate and uncanny.I haven't found anything in this book that is untrue, even though it boldly predicts the very person you are (on many levels) based on 4 neurotransmitters.I've started taking supplements recommended and it's only been a week but I feel much sharper when I need to be, and more relaxed when I want to be.This has become my favorite biohacking/nutritional book.----------------***Update***-------------------------9 months later (in response to a comment):This book is the best doorway into the world of supplements and nootropics.I'm lucky in a sense, because a lot of people don't have an easy way to gauge when diet changes are helping them. For me it's easy. Before, if I could not focus, or I was feeling like **** then I couldn't work properly. Because of personal issues, that used to happen a lot.If I don't work well then I don't get paid, at all, I mean 0. No sick days.If I work effectively, I make a lot of money. That's why I've gone so far into the world of supplements, because it's a very direct effect on my life and also my bank account.I'm just explaining the tangible evidence I have seen. I'm not saying reading this book will make you rich, but having a chemically balanced brain, and the ability to slightly tweak it when needed will certainly improve your focus, drive and ability in whatever endeavor.Recently I went away for 9 days (got back 2 days ago), and I don't like to carry powders through airport security so I didn't take any supplements. I thought it would be good to take that time off all supplements/nootropics etc.I didn't notice any kind of "comedown" during the week itself, but once I got back I was feeling lethargic and my mind was "cloudy". This was probably due to jet lag and the drinking I did last week. I wasn't feeling happy and re-energized like I had hoped I would be.This morning I was up at 3am, took a milkshake containing lots of the stuff in this book: DMAE, Inositol, Phosphatidyl Serine and about 6 others and I've been working like a champ for the past 4 hours (I work from home). So, I didn't get any withdrawal (they are amino acids found naturally in your body anyway) but breaking my routine has further proven to me how important it is. I no longer get tired in the afternoons, and I work better. I get less stressed out, and while my sleep is still not perfect I do fall asleep quicker. You build your own routine from the advice in the book. I have 3 main mixes, one for pre-gym/workout, one for work/concentration and one for sleep/chilling out. After a few months I found I didn't need to take the 5-HTP etc (serotonin/sleep mix) because my days were balanced better and I was being productive and basically life got better in terms of work and family.Since buying this book I have £400 of stuff in my kitchen, not all recommended by this book, but most are. I've also ventured further with nootropics and I'm impressed by modafinil but that's a different topic altogether.

Neurotransmitters, food choices and memory
Fascinating book - has some excellent questionnaires to enable you to discover how and why we are like we are in relation to dominant neurotransmitters. It is an easy read and I enjoyed it. Also very helpful regarding memory issues too. Some of the food suggestions contradict what I already know - but it is definitely worth a read for the ideas you can get from the Neurotransmitters. Another very helpful angle on health.

Not interested
This book represents very old school mechanic thinking in relation to how the brain works. All the same, it DOES offer basic information on the neurotransmitters in the brain and might offer an okay introduction to this subject for new-comers to field so giving it 3 stars for that aspect.
