A Great Value
Wow! I can't believe how effectively this unit does its job. It gives a crystal clear rendition. The one caveat is that the cable is not shielded and thus the whole/entire unit/product is responsive to vibration - this means you MUST place it in a location where you and/or your cloths will not rub against any portion. That being said, this pickup is amazing. I have two baritone ukuleles (one with a wood sound board with a rounded plastic body and one with a spruce body, two sopranos (one with a wood sound board with a rounded plastic body and the other entirely plastic), one non-electric concert and one tenor (made entirely of Acacia wood). Finally I have an electrified concert strung with a low "G", like the tenor. In another room (i.e., a "blind" test") I, my wife, and my daughter who lives in town (and her husband) can all clearly and easily tell which is being played when each one is played through the same pickup/amplifier combination. I have tried playing a simple McCartney tune (the opening of "Ram") that only uses the top two strings of a ukulele and even the subtle differences between the woods (of the same brand of instrument) can readily be heard by each of us. The pickup is THAT sensitive. Please note - the sound is definitively more "acoustic" as compared to the one electric ukulele. Thus it should be pointed out that the pickup does NOT make a normal/standard instrument suddenly sound like an "electric" instrument. The pickup can be placed on the headstock and do well, but it sounds best when attached to the body. With most of my ukuleles the sound holes are small and so the pickup ended up on the headstock, but one of my baritones has dual holes/ports, and both are out of the way of the strings - this is the example that allows me to hear that the pickup sounds most "full" when placed on the main sounding board of an instrument. I know that, typically, more expensive items equal better quality than less expensive. (Even my own stretch of ukuleles shows this.) However, it is hard to imagine a need to spend more money than the cost of this pickup for the amplification of most acoustic string instruments. Yes, it sounds great on a piano and a violin, too.

Good for guitar, not so much for ukulele
The sound from this pick up is decent. However, if you move your hand around the bridge or soundboard of your instrument it picks up every tap, knock, click, etc. that your hand may make and turns it into a loud pop sound through the amplifier. Also, I bought this pick up to use in my ukulele but with a small sound hole that doesn't extend out much further than the top and bottom strings this pick up has no option but to sit partially under at least one string and the pick up is rather high and sits high enough above the instrument that whatever string it sits under hits it when played. However, I have put this pick up on a 12 string guitar I have that does not have a pick up and it works great. As I mentioned above, the sound is good with the exception of the popping sounds. However, in a guitar this is less of an issue since it's a larger more sturdy instrument. Also I will note that, having grown up playing punk music, I naturally rest my palm on any instrument's bridge all the time ready to palm mute and tend to play a little more percussive than most stringed instrument players.

... does not cost much and it does not look like much when you get it
Well it does not cost much and it does not look like much when you get it. But it works really well. I purchased this because my strobe tuner for some reason does not work well when going through its mic. So using it tune my acoustic was pretty much a waste of time. As a note once you tune with a strobe tuner it is disappointing to tune with other tuners. Used this and it worked with the tuner very well. I plugged it into my amp and the sound was pretty good. Now my amp is not built for acoustic so that is part of it and I doubt that this device would match the sound quality of the more professional quality acoustic pickups that are out there. Now for the negative. The cable is about as tiny a wire as you could buy. One good yank on it and I can see some damage being done. I also think that they would have been well served to either terminate it with a female end or included an adapter. It is just long enough that you can plug in and play but you better not move too much and you certainly are going to have trouble if you plan on routing it down your guitar through the strap.Final analysis is that this is probably worth getting if only because I think you can tune more easily using it than you can by balancing a typical tuner close enough to pick up the note you are playing. There are some attachable tuners that do the same thing as this would but they cannot be plugged into an amp. So if you think you would benefit by having one of these you probably will be right as long as your expectations are not too high. But I think that if you are thinking about buying this you are not playing a several thousand dollar Martin or Taylor so you probably already are playing an instrument that is not at the pinnacle of quality guitars so I think you are probably like me where you bought the best guitar that you could within the price range you could afford. If price was not an option I would be playing a 1960's Martin and probably not interested in hearing its wonderful tone amplified and certainly not through a pickup such as this. But at this price range I think it is better than you should expect so for me it is a purchase that I am glade that I made.

Budget gadget works well and easy on the wallet :)
This pickup is really sensitive with excellent sound quality . It worked best to clamp onto the guitar headstock ... It works well with the round microphone pickup contacting next to the tuners in back of headstock if there is room (see photo).. For testing, I tried this pickup on two acoustic Martins and also with electric Gibson LP. Worked well mounted on the headstock on all three (for the Gibson, I put the round pickup on top of headstock since no room behind the tuners in back) .. When mounted on sound hole of regular size Martin guitar, it seemed awkward with the wire hanging down in the middle of guitar body and caused unnecessary noise . I used the Planet Wave stereo 1/4" coupler to connect between the Cherub WCP-60G acoustic pickup to Martin backpacker guitar and on be other end, Livewire elite 10' guitar cable to the Fender Mustang II electric amplifier. Overall I am very happy with this affordable gadget that enable "mainly" for the Marin backpacker travel guitar to be amplified since my other two already have the preamp plugin . I was pleased with the sound quality ..Make sure you buy a coupler to connect regular instrument cable and this pickup because the thin pickup wire is relatively short to maneuver around. Be gentle with your left hand movements on fretboard because it picks up every little sound details ...it is a microphone after all and that is what it does :)). Nice little pickup that works on a wide variety of instruments
I recently had a gig featuring a number of different instruments, and I wasn't sure how I was going to amplify everything. In addition to playing I was responsible for providing the PA. Based on the reviews and the price I figured I'd give this pickup a try; I'm very glad that I did.My first experiment was to clip the pickup to the soundboard of a hammered dulcimer, but the results were not good at all. I was starting to wonder if I'd just wasted a few bucks. But then I clipped it to the headstock of a fiddle, and we were all quite impressed. The fiddle player was excited at how easy it was to attach (and detach). The trick was to catch as much of the headstock as possible and to avoid the scrollwork. Later we needed to amplify mandolin, and the results were equally good. I never actually attached this pickup to a guitar, but I have no doubt that it would have been equally good. The pickup provided a mostly natural sound without any drastic EQ - that's more than I can say for the Dean Markley in-hole that the guitar player was using in his Martin. The next time I have a similar event I will probably pick up 2 or 3 more of these pickups. The one thing to keep in mind is that the cable is roughly 8' (maybe 10') long. That sounds like a lot until you consider how tall a person is and how wide a stage can be. A good extension cable is a worthwhile investment (I happened to have one in my gig bag, and it made things a lot easier).

Picks up UNWANTED NOISE & BAD AFTER-SALE SERV
DOWNGRADE TO 1-O STAR AFTER RETURNING IT BACK TO BROOKMAYS, THE SELLER:I am really disappointed by the seller, BrookMays', ignorant responses to my return of the defective Cherbub Guitar Pickup, which picks up unwanted noise by the wire's own movements and the high frequency of feedback that other pickup won't have the same issue. After two weeks of the returned item was delivered, I didn't hear anything from the seller regarding the return, so I emailed to the seller to see if we can settle it asap. Too bad, four days after the email had been sent, I only got the email of telling me the case# of the message I sent without any further response to my refund. until my patience is gone to deal with this hassle, and I don't think it's worth to waste more time on it, despite the fact of wasting the time and money I spent on this useless pickup and the shipping costs. Therefore, yesterday, I emailed my last contact to the seller regarding the refund of the purchase and gonna report this to AMAZON about the bad after-sale service I ever have before if I still haven't heard from the seller shorty.Today, I finally received the seller's response to my refund, the seller denies the issues of the pickup and claims, "it was not defective. All pickups are going to get unwanted noise if you move the guitar. The feedback can be to to many other issues. I have issued the refund of $7.04." Obviously, the reply is unconvincing; although the feedback can be raised from varies issues, i have tried with another pickup to the same directions and setups, but it doesn't have such problems at all. The fact is NOT ALL pickups get UNWANTED noise although I didn't try many pickups. Cherub Guitar Pickup doesn't work as the product description to pickup the original tones of the instrument regardless the surrounding noises. Moreover, the unwanted loud noise from its wire movements is really annoying, and there's no way to stop the wire movements while strumming. Indeed, I won't use it, and I don't want it to sit at my house as a useless property, so returning back to the seller may help to improve the issues it has. However, the hassles I got from the seller is totally unexpected and it's NOT worth at all.By the way, I'm also unhappy about the refund of &7.04, I bought it for $8.79 along with AMAZON Free Shipping of the purchase of $25 or more. To me, it is not the money of $1.75, but it's not fair to the buyer, who doesn't get the right service and quality from the purchase but only wastes the times and money on this matter. So if you really need a pickup for your instrument, I highly recommend you to spend few more dollars to get a much better and reliable one. Don't make the same mistake as I did to try this one because of the cheap price, in turn, you may get more hassles than you expect on such cheap merchandise. I don't want that happens to anyone else, so I decided to tell you what I went through to keep you from the possible hassles before betting on it.2 STARS FOR THE 1ST REVIEW AFTER USING IT TWICE:I like the clip-on design, which is easy to use, so it is worth 2 stars; however, it doesn't work well clipping on small soundholed string instruments like ukes and kid size guitars because it touches the strings. Besides that, it also picks up loudly through the wire's own movements, not as the description "regardless the surrounding noises." I have distressed from those unwanted loud noises. One more thing that it somehow produces much higher feedback to the mini amp that I use, and I have to turn the volume as low as possible to prevent the high frequency of feedback. However, when I switch to another pickup with the same setup on mini amp and acoustic guitars or uke. the amp doesn't have any feedback even turning it to almost the highest volume, and the other pickup doesn't have the unwanted noise from its own movement either. I don't know whether is my lack of luck or the poor pickup I got ... I bought it because its cheap price (less than $9) & clip-on design, but, I can't accept the noises and I have to waste my shipping cost to return it back to the seller. So, if you want to give it a try, you may bear in mind that the seller, BrookMays, doesn't take any responsibility for the shipments even the item doesn't work properly as claimed description. Good Luck then!

Okay pickup for the price
First we have to realize this is not a $200 pickup or even a $50 pickup. It's less than ten bucks. It has a specially-designed clamp that is good for attaching it to the sound hole of a guitar. As such it is not going to work for an instrument without a considerable-size sound hole. It also will tend to get in the way of those who play directly over the sound hole, as it is quite easy to hit and will pick up any contact noise. It is more sensitive than cheaper competitor devices. Unless you run it directly into the amp within a distance of 8 ft you are also going to need a 1/4" to 1/4" coupler (to allow it to connect to an extension guitar cord). You will need such extension as this tends to have significant feedback issues if the amp is too close or facing the guitar. It is a passive pickup, so you will need either an amp with a passive-specific input or a preamp mixer or other preamp device. If you don't have a preamp system, this will do you no good.So because of the limitations I rate it as above. For what it does though-- providing a passive pickup that can be quickly switched out between instruments, it does okay. I believe there are better pickup concepts out there for about the same amount of money, including adhesive-disk mikes. I would prefer to permanently mount a pickup of some kind and there are many low-cost pickups out there to choose from. But this is a slightly different concept (removable) that for the price is worth checking in to.

Inexpensive item - Great results
I played uke, banjo guitar beginning at age 14. (At 15 I was at Newport Folk festival which was famous because, well if you don't know, it probably would not matter to you.) I haven't purchased a new guitar since 1992.I stopped playing for many years, but then started getting back into it with the nostalgia movement in Folk Music.I purchased a Fender amp and some other electronics. I own the Takamine 1991 Limited Edition acoustic which has a builtin pickup and equalizer. I also own a Yamaha 12 String and a Sonora Classical Guitar that my parents gave me for Christmas when I was 16.I bought this product for the 50 Year old classical. Works like a charm. Especially when put on the guitar head as opposed to the body as instructed. It, being a basic mic, does pick up every tap on the guitar as well as string slide noises or you hand moving on the neck. I use a little talc on my hand to avoid the hand sounds but love the string slide noises. Has a sound timbre sort of like a great player I enjoyed in the square at Avignion, Karmameleon, check him out.

Absolutely amazing, it even works on classical guitars which have nylon strings.

Buena pastilla
Cumple con su cometido, funciona mejor si lo colocas en el headstock de la guitarra, lo malo es que el cable es muy delgado y frágil.

even better if you remove clip setup & stick it to body near the bottom of the bridge.very good (for the price) for a rhythm player.

Quite good. Put it on an arch top and ran it through an acoustic amp. I like it.

Sounds good
Sounds good with electric guitar amp or recording. Best attached to top of head. Will pick up any movement in the cord against the head so tie it down good.
