I have two small Dachshunds and those straggling leaves makes it hard to locate where they did their poop...so I try and pick up those straggler leaves with this Trash Pic. I have the Leaf Vacuum, but when their are just a few leaves on the lawn, it's easier to grab this pic than to crack up a gas mower...more "green" too...no carbons. Before ordering this, I thought the bending over would be good form of exercise for the abs...until my back got to feeling bad...I'll be 65 in a couple months, so this also helps do the work, when you're body isn't feeling up to bending over. I think this could be used when out on a trail too...either with the pic retracted or extended. Might even be able defend yourself...against a snake....just a thought. I do like the pic...I think it's great for picking up those pieces of trash that kids seems to drop as they get of the bus or after the Trash guy picks up...and some piece of whatever blows out as they are tipping that garbage can into the truck...who wants to touch some piece of garbage...that has been next to who knows what....not me...this eliminates that problem and can be used for other things as well. Would recommend to a friend. Review: I am so impressed! This is one of my favorite stabbing implements ever. Better than Excalibur, the knife from Psycho, or one of those katanas from Highlander. It greatly speeds up my cleanup of the neighborhood, as I can collect many small pieces of litter quickly. It doesn't handle large items, or things not able to be stabbed, but for what it was made to do - it does a great job. I particularly like the easy way I can retract the needles in order to discharge the garbage from the end. It's MUCH easier than doing it by hand.

This is a great trash tech I like the idea and everything, but with the two point tip, it’s kind of hard to extract the trash, and I usually find myself having to take it off by hand. But I like it.

It's a fairly specialized tool for picking up trash. It doesn't work with beverage bottles, or very small bits of paper. But it's a great addition to a kit that includes a grabber and a small rake. The PikStik has two spikes, about 1" apart, which pop out when you depress a button half-way down the shaft, and slide the shaft apart. You stab the piece of trash - say a potato chip bag - which remains firmly snagged as you pick it up and place it into your trash bag. Then you press the button again and slide the shaft together. That retracts the spikes, and releases the piece of trash. It sounds more awkward than it is. The whole process takes about 3 seconds once you develop a rhythm. The only drawback is that it requires both hands to use the PikStik in this way, which means your trash bag has to be able to stand on its own. I have a collection of four different tool, for dealing with differing types of trash. The PikStik definitely fills a niche.

I received a defective one and there are no returns. I just have a square hole where the red button should be, i think a piece of plastic fell off. Also I thought this product was going to eject trash with the touch of a button so you can hold a garbage bag in the other hand. Nope. You need to push and slide, requiring 2 hands.
