how sturdy is the unit?

We set ours up and it is plenty sturdy. Also if you have limited space to place, works great in tight space. It holds more than you would think. As it is enclosed we have also utilized the interior floor as well.

about how much weight can this product hold

The description states 50 lbs, the quantity of clothes might vary due to the materials. Someone with lightly-thin weighted clothes can hold alot compared to someone who buys clothes with heavy-thick materials which would probably weigh more and they could probably hold less.

Does the canvas cover fully enclose the wardrobe - is the bottom completely sealed?

Technically no, there are small opening around the feet at the bottom. Since I was putting mine in the basement temporarily and don't really want bugs in there I put some duct tape around the feet at the bottom to completely seal it.

Is the canvas removable?

Yes, it is, but when you put it together, you have the bottom poles going through the cover, so you would have to lift those out of the holes. The cover is not canvas, but a light weight paper type.
