Elegoo is my go-to recommendation for Uno Starter Kits
The quick take: This is a great kit, although the documentation is more an overview than project-based, if that is a concern for you. The long read: I started out with Arduino by getting the official Arduino Starter Kit. Being a neophyte, I was a little overwhelmed by the various options available for entering the Arduino world, so I went with the one that seemed to be the least risk, but the highest cost. Later, when shopping for a 2nd Uno and accessories, I purchased the Elegoo Super Starter Kit, which included an Uno and a nice variety of sensors/accessories at 1/3 the price of the official kit. Quickly, the Elegoo kit became my go-to recommendation for Uno starter kits -- it includes a good variety of quality components, including ones not in the official kit, and it costs a good deal less. It also comes in a great, solid plastic case with a cover that latches shut -- really nice construction that beats the cardboard box the official kit comes in. I kind of wish I had started with the Elegoo in the first place. My only caveat is that the PDF documentation included with the Elegoo kit is not as project-based as the official starter kit. The project book that comes with the official Arduino starter kit offers great introductory info and walks you through specific projects that are tied to specific components in the kit. However, the Elegoo PDF does include good introductory info, getting you started with your Uno and the IDE, walking you though a Blink sketch, and giving you a good overview of each component and how to connect them to your UNO. Beyond that, some of the official kit project chapters can be found online, the official Arduino site has a wealth of valuable introductory info, and the Arduino IDE comes with the code from the book built-in -- so as long as you're comfortable digging in and finding beginner projects online (of which there are many), the Elegoo kit will get you started using Arduino at a much lower cost. I don't think I would say that the official hard-copy project book is worth the extra $60+ cost of the official kit. Since then I've gone on to buy other Elegoo supplies and kits, and have been happy with everything they sell so far. I've only had limited interaction with their support, but I will say they were nice and helpful.

Awesome for beginners
This was my first kit to get me started in Arduino, great board and components. Almost 1 year later, many other boards bought and this is still one of my go-to boards.

Nice Arduino clone, great value
I got this kit to reinforce my fading basic electronics knowledge, and to have some fun. I do have a litle background in the basics. This kit is jam packed with electronic goodness for the money. My kit came sealed with a warning of what to do if the seal was broken. The plastic storage box is nice but not very roomy. I made an inventory and all the parts are there. The R3 (Arduino clone) works perfectly straight out of the box. All the resistors are labeled on their tapes (for those who have never used resistors packaged this way, just cut the leads next to the tapes). This is good, because as others have noted, the 5 line resistors on the blue backgrounds are difficult to read. For learning, the tan resistors with 4 lines are a lot easier. There is a very nice selection of components and experiments. I’m pleased with the breadboard and wires so far. I didn’t use the CD and instead downloaded the reference materials straight from the Elegoo Web site. I have a few suggestions to enhance the learning experience if you have little to no background. Go slow. Fully understand and digest what is presented in each lesson. Do use seek out additional information and learn about each component and what it does. Do get an inexpensive multimeter and learn how to use it. It is a great way to ID those pesky resistors and to troubleshoot. Do download one of the many electronics reference phone apps available and use it to help understand the components and their values. Don’t be afraid to play with and modify the included sketches. That’s a good way to learn programming basics. Of course, if you just want to follow the diagrams and see things work that’s fine too. However, if you want to learn electronics and Arduino programming the journey can be better than the destination with just a little extra effort.

I recently got the ELEGOO UNO Super Starter Kit, and it's been amazing for diving into Arduino projects. This kit has everything you need to get started, from a variety of sensors and modules to detailed instructions and tutorials. Pros: Comprehensive Kit: Includes a wide range of components (motors, sensors, LCDs, etc.), so I didn’t need to buy anything extra. Clear Tutorial: The included tutorial is beginner-friendly and walks you through each project step-by-step, which really helps for those new to electronics. High-Quality Components: The parts feel durable and well-made, especially the breadboard and wires. Great Value: For everything that’s included, the price is unbeatable. It’s perfect for experimenting without breaking the bank. Cons: A Bit Overwhelming for Absolute Beginners: There’s a lot here, which is great, but for someone with zero experience, it might take some time to get used to everything.
