Martin Evening knows everything
Martin Evening knows everything. This is a great reference book for Photoshop users. Not the kind of book you read cover to cover but very useful for finding what you need to know when you're in a bind.

An Excellent Book, But Not the Best
If you've never read a treatise on Photoshop, you will be amply rewarded by this book. It is thorough and, generally, very helpful. That being said, it is not the best of its ilk. Specifically, Evening frequently is vague about how to find buttons and menus, and, at times, fails to provide a step-by-step recipe for using parts of the program. I've used Photoshop for more than ten years, and there are still parts that I don't completely understand. If the author confused me at times, I suspect that he will be even more difficult for a relatively new user. What's better? Reluctantly, I must say Kelby is still the leader of the pack. I've read a number of his books, and find his light touch (that is, his wiseguy humor) and his sensitivity to our need for very specific instructions to be more rewarding. I wish I didn't have to shill for U.S. Steel (the old U.S. Steel, that is), but I intend to go back to Kelby the next time I need a new Photoshop tome.

More encyclopedia than text.
This exhaustive tome on Photoshop CC is good as a reference but difficult to use as a textbook. It is packed with exhaustive details on the minutiae of Photoshop but the font is very small (for my old eyes) and the printing is light, making it hard to read while working on examples. I am an experienced Photoshop user but many of the details were beyond my comprehension and ability. I would certainly not recommend this book to beginners. They would get hopelessly lost early on. The example photos are also very small and its hard to make out the details in the book without a magnifier. I have the print edition and it would be more usable on screen where you can magnify everything. There are many other books out there which are much better for the novice to intermediate Photoshop learner.

A highly informative book for the still photographer.
The first version of this book I bought was Adobe Photoshop for Photographers 5.5 in 2000, I then went on to buy PS 6, PS 7 and then Adobe changed its name to Creative Suit and I bought CS 1 thru to CS 6 by Martin Evening and then we had CC and now the new book CC 2014, so this will be the 11th edition I’ve bought. The changes and progress to Photoshop and this series of books has been immense. From using Photoshop in 2000 just for negative scans, to eventually shooting digital, the introduction of the Raw dialogue box and from then working out a highly efficient work flow using Bridge, the Raw dialogue box and Photoshop. All with the aid of this series of books, I can’t emphasise enough how valuable and informative these books have been these past14 years, they have been and still are a joy to read, great for revision, great for all the new stuff. There is also an accompanying web site where you can download additional pdf’s, watch past and the latest tutorials and what I find very useful Adobe PS CC Photographers bulletin updates, where he keeps you informed of the latest features to PS. Remember the emphasis here is still photography, making you photos look great together with efficient workflow ethics.
