Here's why your music doesn't sound like you'd hoped, and a couple good tips!
I have had this little device since last November, and it has worked great! No gear sounds like some people have asked in the questions. Let me clear something up about some of the complaints about the sound quality. Remember, if you are listening to music from your Android or iPhone, then you're listening to compressed music files (like MP3 files). Compressing the music files allows you to store a thousand songs on your phone, but don't forget that MP3 compression is a "lossy" format, meaning you automatically lose a lot of the quality in the music file so the file can be smaller. Most of the loss of sound is noticed in the lower (bass) bands and the higher (treble) bands, with some loss of mid-range as well.Depending on your car stereo system, you may have some control over the bass and treble so you can correct some of the loss of sound quality, but don't expect miracles. Lossy, compressed sound files like MP3 or other formats are the trade-off you make for having small music data files that fill your phone with the music you prefer, while leaving enough room for photos, videos, and other data. This is why your music sounds fine through your headphones but you notice the drop through your car stereo. Depending on the quality of the file compression, you will likely notice some songs sound worse than others. You do have an alternative though to the loss of sound quality when using your phone. If you have a LOT of internal memory, or expandable memory with your phone for a large MicroSD card, then try music files known as FLAC, which are considered a "lossless" format. The music files are much bigger, so that's why you need a lot of built-in phone storage or expandable memory with a large MicroSD card, like a 128GB card. These cards have really come down in price. I paid about $29 for the last one I bought on Amazon. Of course, you can get smaller storage cards like 64GB, 32GB, etc., so what size you need will count on the size of your music collection if you buy or find music files in the FLAC format, while still having room for pics, videos, and so on.As far as I know, Amazon does not sell FLAC music files, so you can download free software and rip your own FLAC files from CDs (if you still have any!). If you happen to have an audiophile friend that will likely settle for nothing less than FLAC format digital music files anyway, they can probably rip some files for you from CDs or even vinyl records. (remember those?) CDs can't compare to Frampton Comes Alive on vinyl! There are other ways of getting the music you like in FLAC format, but those ways border on the questionable to illegal, in Internet parlance from the music industry. So try searching and you'll find what you want in FLAC music files. Not that I am suggesting that anyone should do anything questionable, illegal or otherwise....because that would be wrong. Now, having explained why your music may not sound as great as you were hoping when you bought this little ION Bluetooth cassette adapter, let me share with you a trick I just recently learned. If you're an Amazon Prime member, then you should know about Amazon Prime Music, which is free for Prime members. Pair up your Android or iPhone with the Bluetooth adapter. Then tap that Amazon Prime Music app, choose which station or music collection you prefer, and be prepared to be downright impressed, maybe even blown-away. When I started doing this a few weeks ago, I was amazed, and extremely pleased to hear so much of the bass and treble, even the mid-range bands that had been missing with my MP3 files were BACK!The quality of Amazon's Prime Music service is far more than a great value as part of Prime. The music quality is excellent, even when pairing up your phone with this little Bluetooth cassette adapter. And the choices found on Amazon's Prime Music is so varied and vast, you should be able to find more stations and songs than you can shake the old proverbial stick at. Don't forget that you can also add a huge amount of songs on Amazon to your Prime Music library - for free. On top of the quality of the music you will hear and the huge choice of songs to please about anyone's music tastes, remember that you are not having to use any of your phone's internal or expandable memory, which could mean you won't need to buy a larger MicroSD card. More money saved! You will be using some of your phone's data, but prices for data have been coming down and from my experience, unless you're taking that epic road trip you always planned to take back when you were in college, but never took until now, not all that much data is used while streaming Amazon's Prime Music service.Update: When the rechargeable battery in these puppies dies, it dies right then. No warning.Like others have said, there is an annoyance in the fact that when the battery is drained of power, the unit just stops working. There isn't any way to check the battery level by looking at anything on the cassette. There is no warning *beep* or other such noise to let you know you have maybe 30 minutes of power left. You're going to be back to CDs, radio or singing loudly by yourself to entertain during your drive-time. So, I did what I had read in another review and late last year I bought a second one of these Bluetooth units. I really do like them and have not had issues some folks have mentioned, so I was willing to get a backup unit. After charging the new one, it found a place in the center console of my car. Several days later, my original unit was empty and stopped as mentioned. But no bother this time as I just reached for the backup unit and popped it into the cassette player as I removed the drained unit. Pulled over so I could pair my phone again and all was well! Back to driving and got to enjoy my own tunes again. Had to remember to take the drained unit in the house and recharge it so it could be ready when the current BT cassette quits.Best solution? I don't know for everyone but it works for me!

Solid Performance going on 10 years
The only thing I don't like about this is that it needs to be recharged after a few hours of rocking out on the road. For short trips it's great, so after 8 years I decided to get a backup. This is currently unavailable so I got a competitor's product in April 2023. It performed flawlessly for a year, and then a couple of months ago it started to deteriorate in the sound volume within minutes of use, despite having a full charge. I don't understand why, but when I found where I'd misplaced THIS item it is still working perfectly. I can't believe I then lost it again, and went to reorder it but it's still currently unavailable. I now purchased a thirdcompetitor's unit but I really wish they would make this item available again. Despite buying it in 2015, it continues to work flawlessly, but I need two of them so I can always have one charging while the other one is being used. Great sound, too.

It works well once you figure it out, and there are more nuances than you may think
Amended... After using for more than 5min, I've found it to have nothing but subpar or inadequate performance. Various other wired versions of the same thing perform fine, clean, clear music at the best fidelity it can be. This one however clearly has a misaligned head... It varies in volume, it doesn't transmit all parts of the track, with some escaping totally... And it is incredibly quiet... About 70% more so than all other inputs or wired cassette adapters... It's trash. As the headline suggests, the product does indeed function, it's just extraordinarily cheaply made, as well as cheaply engineered. Could probably sell for $5.00 and still have an enormous profit margin... but I'm not complaining, as it is somewhat of a niche product at this point. When first powered on, the blue LED blinked some erratic pattern... didn't really matter what it was telling me, as it popped up effortlessly in my devices Bluetooth list... it then paired without any issue, password or number, etc at all. No problems yet. Put it into the vehicles tape deck, played my music, and it was indeed playing... just very quietly and without any of the EQ I had set for previous wired or wireless (BT) devices. Not sure why that was, but that was more than likely Android, and who knows, after an update it might group each BT audio profile separately now... HOWEVER, it was playing QUIETLY due to a plastic protective film, the same peel off film you'd find on a screen or shiny plastic, having been left on the play head... the second image I uploaded shows the head... pretty much the only real "part" on this tape adapter. That plastic barrier was more than enough to block more than most of my signal, hence the whisper quiet music and need to crank things well beyond reasonable limits just to hear them. So there's one thing fixed.--Also, none of this is mentioned in the "quick start guide"... if a film or charging indicator was mentioned at all, I'd never have said any of this, and just given it 5 stars.Secondly is the charging... it's still a mystery to me, as I imagine it is to anyone else. There are no indicators what so ever... Plug in powered up or powered down, and you'll be met with the same NOTHING either way. Just leave it plugged in and hope for the best I guess... If it dies and doesn't come back eventually, I'll have to assume the charging circuit broke... as there is zero feedback in any way from it in regards to it's various states.Aside from those things however, it works. I haven't tried the mic yet... for hands free calling... not sure how well that can really work when its housed in a unit (sticking out of the deck hanging by a wire or not) which actively has motors turning gears inside of it, along with all of the other noise and interference present at its direct location... so to say, I don't expect much of it. But if it works, I'll surely be pleasantly surprised.

The wired adapter initially worked fine but the sound became staticky after just a day ...
My wife and I bought this unit after we had already tried a wired cassette adapter. The wired adapter initially worked fine but the sound became staticky after just a day or so. Figuring that this wireless model would avoid problems with the wires, I decided to order it. Turns out, it's fantastic. Easy to use and sounds great. It's a little inconvenient to have to charge the unit every day or two, but I don't have a single negative thing to say. Buy it if you want to breathe some new life into your older car's stereo.
