Much better than some other gates and nice for the price
Let me start off by saying this is THIRD gate we've purchased to keep our 1 year old out of the cat food and water. The first one we bought was the old fashioned wooden Evenflo gate with the fold down tension bar.. those things are terrible now compared to the way they used to be designed. The second one we bought was the smaller version of the Regalo baby swing gate. The gate was acceptable but far from great. I'm so glad we changed our minds about that one and ordered this instead. Assembling and installing this one, the differences make so much more sense. I'm not sure if this is an old design and the quality of their newer gates has gone downhill, or if they've listened to feedback from customers and this gate is a new and improved design. Either way, this version is worlds better. The handle/locking mechanism is easy to use and very manageable using it one-handed (the other Regalo gate is so awkward and difficult, I didn't even lock it all the way because opening it was a headache). I also love that this version of the gate will swing open in either direction (other version only opened one way). This gate can also be fully disassembled if you need to take it apart (the other version had a pin that held the door on that "could not be removed by hand" after inserting it, according to the manual). This gate is sturdy and nice and will definitely serve it's purpose well. I'm not going to use the cups for this gate since I don't want to put more holes in the walls than necessary and it seems to be sturdy enough with just the tension. I will say that people should be aware of their measurements and the measurements of this gate and it's extensions. The main piece itself is about 29" without any extensions and then you have the option of using a 4" and/or 12" extension in addition to the 29" main piece. So it may be awkward for certain size openings. Also, a lot of people complained that the gate appeared bent and wouldn't latch.. but that is before installation. After the gate is installed and the tension is tightened, the bars come together and will latch correctly. That's mentioned in several places.

Great Gate
As a parent, this gate has been a lifesaver in our home. It’s wide enough (47 inches) to block off large openings, and the walk-through design makes it easy for adults to pass through without hassle. The bonus extension kits (4" and 12") were perfect for customizing the fit in our hallway. Installation was quick with the pressure mount kit, and the wall cups add extra stability. It feels sturdy and secure, even with a toddler constantly testing it! The gate opens and closes smoothly, and the latch is easy for adults but tough for little hands. For the price, it’s a great value—durable, adjustable, and safe. Highly recommend for any parent needing a reliable gate for wide spaces.

A good product, works great for dogs
We recently got a new cat, so I bought this gate to safely keep the dog from getting into the main room while they settled in/got used to one another. Anything advertised for "dogs" or "pets" usually gets a few extra bucks tacked on for the price, so I chose this as a cheap and reliable-looking option. It works great. The bars are small enough to keep our small, 11-ish lb dog from fitting through them. The cat can, with some effort (and some noise), squeeze his fat 15lb butt through if he wants to. I was especially pleased with the ease of the actual mounting of the gate; the pressure-based twist knobs/extensions work fantastically and keep the gate supported and secure. The upper latch is a little weird, but it works. It's not one of those jointed lever-raise-and-snap down ones. It's a pull-against-the-gate spring. The bottom latch pushes down onto the bottom steel line. It's different from what I'm used to but it works! Their extension system is also nice and seamless. Assembly was simple. Note, though, that the screws they provide to assemble work great once they're in, but their heads are weak and will strip easily on the way to try to get it back out. We screwed ours in comfortably tightly and happened to need to remove it, and we ended up having to send back the product because the head completely stripped when trying to loosen it again with a Phillips. This is a minor complaint, but just one to keep in mind for others! Overall, I would recommend it.

easy to use in the right space, but kind of cheap
I just received this and it installed in just a few minutes. Anyone else reviewing this that claimed it was too hard to open with one hand probably has it tightened too far. There is a fine balance between too tight to open easily and too loose to be stable. But it only took a couple twists of the pressure mounts for me to determine the right balance. I read the other reviews before purchasing and carefully measured the opening I planned to block with this gate to make sure it would work. Because, as other reviewers have stated, this is not a gate that fits openings 29" - 52" like the product description lists. This gate will fit in an opening that is approximately 29-32", roughly 35-38" with just the 6" extension, approximately 42-45" with just the 12" extension, and roughly 48-51" with both extensions. Unfortunately, if your opening falls in those in between sizes, you're going to find that you can't get a good fit. Either it's too big with the extension(s) added that you can't get it in place or w/o the extensions it's not very sturdy because you have to push the pressure mounts to the extreme end of their length. My biggest issue with this gate is that it seems really flimsy and cheap compared to the Northstates, Evenflo & KidCo gates we have in other doorways thru-out the house. The overall construction is made of poorly done welds against the thin metal tubes. Since I put this in an area that gets high traffic, I'm concerned about how long it will hold up. But I guess that's what you get when you buy the cheaper option. We're going to try it for awhile and see how it goes.

Great for our needs
Works great for the bottom of our stairs. The posts are 41 1/2 inches apart. We used the gate and 12" extension. We had to place in on the first step instead of the ground since it wasn't going to hold on the curved part of our posts. I used the screws and mounts it came with and so far the hold is super secure. Works great for our dogs and toddlers. Our smallest dog is a 5 lb runt and he can't fit between the bars. Largest dog is almost 90lbs and it holds well when she jumps up and puts her front paws on it. The toddlers (18m and 3y) haven't gotten extremities stuck between the bars, or figured out the latch yet like baby gates of the past so I have high hopes for this. The latch is tight and requires more muscle then the last gate we had, but my 6 and 9 year olds are now able to open it (after repeatedly trying) on their own. I was worried at first, since I can't always jump up and do it for them, but they got the hang of it. Many reviews complain about the latch not being attached when it arrives, and being spaced to far apart, but that is how all gates like this work. The latch comes together when it's tightened. You'll know the gate is secure when the latch fits together. Also, the gate does open in both directions. That makes it easier to install since you don't have to worry if it's facing the right way. For the price, and with our needs, I think this was a great buy.

*** Disregard the Negative Reviews - Installed Properly This Is Amazing!!!
I've been trying to understand all the negative reviews of this item. I don't quite understand it and I have to put it down to people not understanding how to install it properly. This is a sturdy metal gate with two extensions, one for either side. I have a 43.5" opening to my back hallway. I needed an extra wide gate so i picked one up at a local store. It was very high and was very, very hard to step over. I decided I needed one with a gate for walking through. I found this one here on Amazon but balked when reading some of the reviews about it being "a plastic piece of junk", "unsteady and easily pushed over", etc. I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt since I'm on prime and could receive it quickly and make my own judgement. I figured I'd return either the one I bought locally or this one depending on how it went. Installation: For my opening (again 43.5") I needed one of the extenders. They are two different sizes and I used the bigger of the two. Maybe some of the people who had stability issues with the gate used the wrong size extender? IDK... So the gate has these threaded rods you spin to close the gap between the extender and the wall. They are really easy to adjust because they have adjustment knobs built right in. NOTE*** - People mentioning that the gate and latch don't line up may have not realized that they do have a gap but once it is tightened in place, that gap closes up. So looking at the gate out of the box you could say it doesn't line up properly but once tightened up and in place it's lined up perfectly. Within 5 minutes I had this thing tightened up and installed just fine. The swinging gate works like a champ and the locking mechanism is easy to use. I did read about people having problems with the latch but you basically just pull back the latch release on top and lift the gate up to open. You have to lift it because it has a piece that goes over the bottom rail to keep the gate steady on the bottom end. One thing I didn't do is screw the wall receivers into the wall. It comes with screws to do this but I wanted to check out the functionality before screwing them in. To anyone saying that a child or anyone else could knock this over, obviously didn't screw the wall receivers into a solid wooden part of the wall. If they had, you'd have to bend the entire gate to get it out of those and "knock it over". So.... Sorry for the long review but I hate seeing products get slammed for peoples failings in installation. I seriously wanted to pass on this item but I'm very glad I didn't. Worth the price and I won't be face planting in the middle of the night headed to the bathroom anymore.

Do you want a shoddy, rickety gate that is frustratingly impossible to install? Buy this!
This is, without a doubt, the WORST product I have ever purchased on Amazon. If it weren't so big and difficult to pack back up, I would definitely be sending it back for a refund. As it is, I'll be purchasing another gate, and we'll see if I have the time or energy to send this pile back. To begin with the product is incredibly rickety. It included two extensions, a larger one and a smaller one, to allow you to get the correct size gate, but these extension do not attach to the main gate with any sort of hardware. The result is two extensions that just slip onto the main gate, and then slip off at first opportunity while you're trying to install the thing. I ended up having to duct tape the extensions on just to get them to stay put during installation. Once the gate was installed and the duct tape came off, the gate wobbles at the connecting points for the extensions. Since the gate relies on pressure to keep the whole thing together, this wobbling causes the whole gate to be unstable after installation. Next, let's talk about sizing. The hallway I gated off is almost exactly 47" wide, which apparently is the EXACT wrong width for this gate. With both extensions on, plus the mounting hardware, it is a good half inch too wide to fit in that opening. With only the large extension on, the gate is not big enough for the opening, and the result is that the pressure screws on the end are almost fully extended to make contact with the wall. This means there is about 4" or 5" of space at the end of the gate; plenty of room for a child or dog to get their head stuck. Not to mention that, with the pressure screws extended that far, the entire gate sags, and this exaggerates its already pronounced flimsiness. I ended up having to "attach" both extensions and leave the pressure screws off one end of the gate to get it to (barely) fit. Of course, the end of the gate isn't exactly wall friendly, so I have nice scratches and dents in my wall now. Not the end of the world since they're not really visible with the gate installed, but it's too easy for those to slide off, so I'd need to put some type of rubber bushing there if I intended to keep this thing. The door mechanism is clumsy - you have the pull a slippery plastic piece back to unseat a bolt, then lift the whole door up in order to move it. It wouldn't be such a big deal if the plastic piece wasn't so slippery and the entire structure of the gate didn't flop about when you put any sort of pressure on it. There's also a small plastic spacer for the bolt in the door, which fell off at first opportunity and is a rather nice choking hazard. That's about it for the features of the gate. It's simple, so there's not a lot to talk about it. In every conceivable way a gate could fail, this gate does. Of course, for $30 I guess they figure who could complain, right? Spend the extra $$$ to buy something more capable and less frustrating.

Super!
Ganz toll!

Excellent product! Holding very strong even without drilling in the wall

Perfect for wide doorways or passages
Worked very well for us. When I opened the carton it seemed like the pieces would not possibly align, but once you fit it against the wall, the tension holds everything in place. I did not need to drill holes or fit anything in the wall. My twins bang and shake the heck out of it, and it rattles, but nothing happens. Perfect!
