Best Workout Journal on the Market.
This is the best workout journal on the market. I've been using this for years, and even though I use the apps, I still mark this up. It is important to use your hands and mentally imprint your workout schedule, successes, and challenges in your mind--and you do this by physically writing your workout. I have years and years of these journals that I can look back through and see what I have done, what boundaries I have overcome, and can look to the future as I age. I have given this journal to friends, workout buddies, and others. Love it.

Wonderful Tool!
I am about to buy my second one! I love this book. I used it a year ago to track exercise and calories. I lost about 30 lbs over 3 months by logging everything in this book. I ran out of pages, so I decided to try living without it. I've tried a number of apps of on my iphone, but this book really is the simplest, quickest way to log workouts. It does only give spots for 4 sets of each exercise, but there are plenty of other places to write additional info. You can also squeeze 2 sets into one slot, if you write really tiny, or just use 2 lines. I like that there are spaces to record strength training and spaces for recording cardio. There is also a section for other activities. On days that I didn't do strength training, I would write the cardio that I did in that space on the day before and just record the date. I didn't want to waste a page for just cardio. I didn't use the food diary very much because I track my calories on-line with Fitbit. However, it is nice to have a place to write the calories totals the Fitbit gives me each day. There is a place at the back of the book to record weight and measurements. I eventually ran out of room there. I weighed more often than weekly, so I started recording weights and measurements in the "Games and Competitions" section. What I loved about this book: 1. You can record a lot of information in a small space. 2. It isn't too big to lug around the gym. 3. The ring binding is the right size for a pencil with a big eraser, or for a clip-on pen. 4. The plastic cover won't rip off. 5. The spaces are flexible enough that you can record info in a way that is convenient for you. 6. It has a plastic sleeve in the back that is handy for slips of paper, business cards, cash, etc.

Great product to monitor your fitness and food intake
I love this journal. I use it daily to record my fitness activities and meals. The journal is easy to use and provides space to record your cardio activities (e.g. treadmill, elliptical trainer), your strength-training exercises, and other miscellaneous activities. For strength training, the table allows you to record your repetitions and weights. You can also record your meals and snacks throughout the day. This is useful if you are tracking your calorie intake. There's also list of common foods and their calories at the beginning of the book (there's space to add to the list). If you are trying to lose weight or simply track the number of calories you are consuming, recording this information does make you feel more accountable for what you eat and makes you think twice before eating something you really shouldn't. Prior to the Bodyminder journal, I had used the Fitlosophy Fitbook, which is also a nice fitness journal, but costs twice as much as the Bodyminder and has less space to record your activities. The Fitbook also doesn't have space to track the number of calories that you burn and intake; a feature that I like. If you are looking for a simple (no frills) and easy to use journal, I highly recommend the Bodyminder. It's thin enough to stick in your gym bag and gives you the flexibility to start/stop recording your activities, whereas the Fitbook always started on a Monday. When I'm finished with this journal, I plan to purchase another Bodyminder journal. It just takes a couple of minutes a day to record your activities and food intake, which is well worth the time if you trying to get or stay fit.

2006 revised edition improvements
When looking on Amazon, the search inside feature shows an older edition. After purchasing, I found there have been some improvements. Notably, the dietary section now includes boxes for breakfast-snack-lunch-snack-dinner-snack. This fits nicely for people who are following a diet that requires them to eat 5-6 small meals per day instead of the old standard of 3 meals. To make room for this, the "Other Exercise" section has been shrunk a bit. Instead of having big check boxes for various activities such as gardening and yoga (which was a waste of space to people who didn't use them), there are now 5 blank lines where you can write in your own activities, whatever they may be. The cardio workout section has also been reformatted. The cross-country skier and jump rope have been removed, but there are three blank lines where people could add those back if they want. Anyway, I would say that this was already an excellent product, and it is nice to know that it improves with time. Here are some things I like as compared to other workout journals I looked at. - I like that it is both a workout and food diary AND gives plenty of space for both. It is important to pay attention to both in order to get and stay fit. - I like that it has a lot of lines for weight training exercises. Some others did not have near enough for my needs. - Some other journals I've looked at had much smaller spaces for writing in. - Some journals had pictures on the cover of fitness models. I don't want to carry something into the gym that looks like the cover of a lady's fitness magazine or a men's muscle magazine either. I prefer the conservative fake leather look of this journal. - The spiral binding allows it to lay flat for easy use. - I found the brief section of common food counts handy. Best of all, they left space where I could add my own foods. - The introductory material is helpful but brief. It tells you how to use the log. It doesn't tell you how to work out. - It has a good weekly planning section at the beginning and goals/progress section at the end. - The calendar in the back was handy for reference. I will definitely buy this one again when I have filled in all the days.

Very well constructed! But...
This book exceeded my expectations. Very well organized. Great book if you're a beginner, as it even guides you through tracking your results and setting goals. One of the biggest mistakes in fitness progression is not tracking, in at least one way, your progress. This fitness journal provides the pages for you to track nearly anything, and an explanation of how to use the book to track your progress etc. REASON FOR 4 STARS: 4 stars still means its pretty damn good. Don't get me wrong. However, the author took all his/her time to neatly organize the book, but combines cardio with strength in a one-day log. It would be far more effective to have the option to date one's cardio and strength training with separate date boxes. In other words, you can log your exercise per day in one page. A one-day-log page consists of cardio (top half) and strength (bottom half) training, followed by the next page in which you can track your meals/calories. If you alternate between cardio and strength days, you will have to log on separate pages in order to be able to fill in the date box at the top. That entails "wasting", or not making use of, the cardio or strength section of half the page. Those who own the book could log nearly twice as much if a date box was added for the strength section! And if you train both cardio and strength in the same day, a check-box could be added to indicate strength was trained along with cardio that day! And as far as the calorie tracking, it could be minimized or even removed. Nowadays one can find so many free websites (and smart phone apps) that track one's calories with near perfect accuracy. Much more impractical to write it down.

Excellent paper journal
Love this classic, paper journal. I am on my third Bodyminder (over the last 3 years). I also use an electronic journal and have tried making my own spreadsheets, but this Bodyminder is great and super convenient for taking with you, on the go. It is especially useful when doing a 12 or 13 week fitness or eating program since it has enough pages for daily entries for 13 weeks (or can be used for longer periods of time if not written in everyday). It helps to maintain discipline, if you commit to writing in it every day, even if just as reminders, and even if you go off track from your program (just get back on track). There is something more more real and tangible about writing in a book vs. on an electronic device. The Bodyminder pre-printed pages are close to what I would have designed for myself. I like the weekly goals, daily tracking and weekly progress sections. I do re-purpose or ignore some of the sections that are not relevant to me, but overall, the design of the journal is the closest to meeting my needs of commercially available journals I have seen. Beginning: Weekly Plan pages. Good to make weekly goals and then spots to check off your plan and/or accomplishments for each day of the week. This section is set up for daily exercise goals, but I use some of the lines for more general weekly goals. It also has a line for weekly dietary goals. Middle: Daily journal pages. It has sections for both exercise and food recording. I do like the comments, reminders and "met today's goals?" scale bar from 0 to 100%. I modify the exercise sections to fit my style; it has cardio and strength sections, as well as other exercise. Dietary notes: I like that it has space for breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack (I do not fill in calories, etc but use for just recording food). I like that it has boxes to check off for water consumption and a section for vitamins. End: Starting Stats & 13-week goals, Weekly Progress (measurements), misc pages such as games & competitions, expenses. The Bodyminder is a great size (~5.5 x 8.5" pages) that makes it easy to handle and transport. It has a spiral binder that makes pages easy to write on when open or folded back on itself. Pens fit great into the spiral so they are handy and do not get lost or caught on anything. The paper is high quality with no bleed through. Pages in the front and back are cream colored and the daily journal pages are white. It has a vinyl pocket in the back for storing papers. The cover is plastic coated and holds up well going into and out of tote bags. I don't really care for the graphics on the cover but is not too bad; I suppose it could be blacked-out with a Sharpie. I like using this journal with multi-colored pens, with a different color pen for each week (use same color for the weekly goals in the front, for daily entries in the middle and for the weekly measurements in the back). I recommend Zebra Sarasa Rapid Dry Ink Gel Pen, Retractable, 0.7mm, Assorted Colors, 10 Pack (46881). Overall, the Bodyminder journal is a very well-thought-out product. It does not fully replace electronic journaling but is a nice complement. Highly recommend.

Great for logging workouts
I purchased this to keep track of my weightlifting workouts. I've never been one for recording thing into fitness app since I prefer paper. I like this because it has everything you need and nothing you don't need. there is ample space for logging your lifting routine or cardio sessions. There a good amount of space for comments if maybe you injured yourself or for anything out of the ordinary. Easy to read and I like that it gives you enough space to write big enough to read what you've wrote. I've used these for 5 or so years now and can tell you that when I go back to look at my old programming or workouts I can't still understand what I was doing fully. Great little book I would Highly recommend.

Old school taking notes better than 'app for that.'
So most people are tracking their stats and workouts with some app or something, but I found this journal to be very helpful and easy to use - so much so that I have now purchased a second one. My son bought me the first one and set me up with workouts, and I faithfully tracked and updated my progress and workout changes until I used up the pages, so now I'm onto the 2nd one, and I'm hoping it will keep me inspired and motivated to work out and keep tracking progress. Very easy to use and can track entire workout moves, weights, reps etc - I even added song titles along the way as I was listening to music, so I could go back and make a track of those titles in the right order to work out to, according to the type of move I was doing -(fast, slow, stretching, whatever). Very handy, easy to carry, simple to update - good for ease of past review, and easy to customize to your 'thing' if you want to modify (vs fill in the blanks exactly as the journal has them). I would have spent a lot more time 'updating' on an app and mobile device than just tracking my routine here. Not everything 'online' saves time or is more convenient... Besides, it is very easy to forget about what app you are using, or what web url to go to, and if you leave the journal where you work out, you will never forget how to access it, and you will never need to do a password reset... All very good reasons to use this journal over some digital substitution. Happy journaling.

Bodyminder Workout & Exercise Journal
A superb, concise addition to your gym bag. Good points: Has everything you need to track your progress through thirteen weeks. Includes, a how to use section; a table of common foods and their nutritional values, for those watching their diet, with room to add your own favourites. Weekly plans and daliy activity records make up the majority of the journal. It also includes pages on your fitness expences, weekly progress, calanders and space for a before and after photo. A truely excellent piece of kit. Negative point: The only problem I can find is the size of some of the spaces to record your dietary notes. However, this can easily be remedied by writing smaller. Would recommend to friends and strangers alike. Will be purchasing more when required.

Comprehensive and robust
I have been involved in strength and fitness conditioning for some 45 years and nearly always kept a training diary ; certainly when I was competing seriously in athletics. Usually I use a hard back lined notebook A4 or A5. Recently I thought I would use something a bit more pre-structured and trawled Amazon for products. This one seemed to offer a good blend of organisation and durability and so it has proved. It is decent value for money , though personally I barely use the right-hand of each pair of pages (nutrition and other comments ) so that is a bit of a waste. Not enough to deduct a mark so five stars, given good quick delivery!
