Philips AZ-5740/98 MP3 DVD/CD Player

I bought this player with following expectations and all of them met perfectly: 1. Ability to play CD/DVD Audio/Video/MP3 in standalone mode. 2. Decent sound volume and clarity. 3. Value for money. The Cons (Which Phillips should work on): 1. No power button. Only way to stop a CD is pause or remove. 2. Flip open CD case. Prone to dust. Always keep a CD/DVD loaded in. 3. Useless remote if you are playing Audio discs. No Volume control. You should buy this if: 1. You intend to have a CD-player with inbuilt speakers and wants to play Video-CD/DVD by connecting to your TV. 2. You want to have cassette player. 3. Need something handy to carry around in house. 4. Get a good deal! (In 4.5K @Amazon, this is worth it)

I bought this product for my family in Delhi. The product works as specified and the quality is really good. We mostly use it to play my dad's collection of cassettes and CD's. I have not had any problem with it and i have been using it for a few months now. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a cassette player. One point to look for is about the remote. The remote shown in the image, works as the DVD player remote i believe. I have not used it much since i don't play any DVD's in this. This remote will not be able to fully control other functions of the player.

Purchased this as I wanted to play and digitally record my dad's collection of audio cassettes. I got a lot more in fact. The audio quality is really nice; expected from Philips I would have supposed, but the previous boom box from the same brand i had ordered in Amazon for half the price, I had to return. That one did not have good sound quality, neither did it have an audio out 3.5mm port. Audio out is needed for me as I primarily intend to record. This system offers a lot more, it plays mor from usb, plays quite a few types of audio CDs with really good sound output. FM reception is good strong and clear. My dad is happier as it can play his old collection of video CDs too when plugged to the TV. He is happy, i am happy too. Thanks Philips, thanks Amazon

I generally don't like to write reviews, but in this case I feel that the other customers should be warned! Frankly nobody will buy this product in today's times ,unless they are interested to play audio cassettes, but sadly audio cassette player is its worst feature !! I bought it for my dad who has a huge collection of old songs on cassettes,which he very emotionally like to listen to,perhaps as an act of re-living his old memories. Alas ! in less than a fortnight this player has ruined 03 cassettes, beyond repair, making it not only the worst product but a tool of agony for my household. Philips should either stop making something they are not good at or atlest put a Disclaimer about such hassles,so that customer makes an informed decision. Sadly the refund time is over now, else I would have returned this product. HOPE Philips /Amazon, if they read this review, be kind to suggest me some suitable respite. But if not,just wish to inform anyone thinking of buying it for the audio cassettes, PLZ DONT !! There might not be many other options available, but this probably will just ruin your collection.

The product is good. Plays DVDs and CDs just fine. The remote does not have volume control but that's fine as you can't expect everything from a affordable device. The sound quality is good. The USB function is a bit iffy. It will play mp3s fine 99 out of 100 times but there is that one time when it hangs. Also it does not seem to like all USB drives. My 8 gb transcend did not play but both my sandisk's played just fine. The fast forward function is also not smooth especially on dvd mp3 disk. The track sometimes just moves on to the next track after fast forwarding for some time. The one thing that I find very irritating with the product is that it does not save your current track position or even the current track after you switch off the device. It always starts from the beginning of the cd/dvd/USB. And this is the reason I give it 3 stars.

Philips AZ-5740/98 MP3 DVD/CD Player If you like your music to be loud and thumping, then this is not the product for you. At low volumes it plays the entire audio range quite well. It is a boon for a senior citizens like me and my wife as we have a huge collection of cassettes and we like to listen in the night as we drift off to sleep. As soon I got it, I was a bit disappointed that the USB port cannot convert my cassettes to mp3 for storage. But with a little experimentation, I am able to do it. If your comp has a line-in, you just have to connect the line out (only the red and white outputs) from the sound machine into your comp. You may need an additional connector which will take the red and white output from your sound machine to your comp's line-in. If you cannot figure out what connector is needed take it any computer savvy guy for help. Now you need to use a free software like audacity to convert the sound to mp3 and store it on your computer. This is useful as in a few years time no cassette player will be available.If you do not have a line-in as is the case with many new laptops, you better take the help of a good computer mechanic to figure it out. It can still be done. Hope this review was helpful.

Good one first I received refurbished product. Than I exchanged to New one.this product is good. Features of this Philips Boom Box. 1.Play DVD,VCD,CD and MP3. 2.Play Tape Cassettes.(Tape Recorder) . 3.Radio FM only (Not play AM, MW). . 4.Record from DVD to Tape cassette and USB to Tape cassette. FM to Tape cassette only 5.Play USB. . 6.AV out for TV ( you can see video Audio in TV). 7. Head phone out. . 8. Remote used for DVD player and USB but not used for Radio and Tape Recorder. 9.CD and DVD is play at Top load you can push and fit the CD. . 10.Run only with Power. No option for Battery. The Philips company next add AM and MW option and make Remote should be used for control volume and Change Radio Stations. Finally Good product Price is High.

Received brand new product with all accessories as described online. I used it since purchased and till now no any problem is found. Good product from Philips. I purchased it as my first Philips Stereo cassette player failed to serve after 15 years. And missed to play my cassette collection. I searched many players online and found this best product. I am very happy and thankful to Philips and Amazon to stop my search.
