I like the look of this Black version better than the standard Flash
This is basically the same review I wrote for the non-black standard Flash version. However, the difference is in the look of the knife overall and not in the function. I like the looks of this all black version very much. Side-by-side I would choose the Black version over the standard Flash, however, they are both good knives and it is a matter of preference if you can only choose one. The black handle and black blade of this version makes it quite appealing. Even the clip is black with this version, which is a nice touch. I would recommend lubrication and any personal preference adjustments to the "action" of the knife immediately so you can begin to use the knife right away with optimal results. I already own one of these as an EDC knife and that is why I have purchased more. This knife is quite sharp out of the box and it opens quickly. I like the "safety" feature that locks the blade so that it doesn't open accidentally. The best feature for me is the low profile clip that allows the knife to be carried but not seen. It is elevated a bit off the end of the knife so that no part of the knife shows outside your pocket. All that is visible is the clip. Most knifes have a small portion of the knife end that sticks out of the pocket. With this style of knife, you can't see any of the knife outside the pocket. This makes this a discreet EDC knife that is also functional and of an excellent quality. The handle is quite sturdy and has textured feel that increases the grip. The partially serrated blade is quite helpful in getting through boxes, rope, plastic, etc. Overall this is a lightweight and handy knife that is worth the price and superb for EDC. If it is stiff or doesn't open the way you like, just adjust the end screw and lubricate it with a drop of oil. I have also used WD-40 on this style of knife and it does wonders cleaning it and making it look brand new again.

Best EDC knife I've ever owned.
This is the best every day carry knife I've personally ever owned. As someone else said, the steel is not the best in the world, and that is my only issue with it; it is still very above-average quality steel though, and shows 0 signs of rust or corrosion, the metal is just softer than I think is optimal... D2 or something would make this knife a dream. I just have very high standards for the steel that my tools and guns are made of, and for the price, you won't find better in my opinion. Even for a brutal task, I believe it would hold up fine, though it would certainly need a sharpening; I still haven't had to sharpen mine in over a year. I think once or twice, EVER, the safety has engaged in my pocket unintentionally, probably from reaching to grab keys or something. It's not really as big of an issue as it's made out to be, I actually think it's quite a good design. In addition, there is no "stop bar" in the knife to stop the blade when closing, so you never get a dull spot on the blade. Also, the unlock-thumb-lever thing is an awesome addition; no more putting your thumb directly in the way of the blade to push that awkward and uncomfortable locking mechanism! When I first got it, I was REALLY sketched out by the plastic housing/handle, but just like my other SOG knives, it is extremely durable! Literally, not a single scratch after all the time I've owned it, which is amazing. Also, the black tini coating on the blade isn't only for looks; it is very durable, rather similar to the chemical coating on a Glock barrel, and does a very good job at preventing any glare or flash in the sun, if that concerns you. This knife in particular, in my opinion, is the perfect size for carrying always. It is very lightweight, has a very ergonomic design, and doesn't look flashy or cheesy. The blade is big enough for anything you might need it for, but small enough to be a realistic to stuff in a pocket. Honestly, it's so unnoticeable that I clip it in the pocket of my sweatpants if I'm lazy that day. I really love SOG knives, and for real work, camping, defense, etc., I also have 2 seal pup elites, partially serrated, in black tini which have also held up quite well. Loyal customer here, mostly due to the very good quality to cost ratio, from the research I have done. I like to own things that will last as long as I take care of them, and these knives do. Don't forget, they have lifetime warranties against manufacturer's defects; don't take that for granted!

Great Value
For the price, SOG has made a quality knife that I am very pleased with. Shipping was fast, as usual, and the packaging was secure and well-protected. In the start, operating the knife--specifically, closing the knife--was stiff, but with time it's smoothed out nicely. Bear in mind that opening was never a problem, it's always fast ("flash," indeed!). The knife feels secure in hand, with surfaces set just so to handle however you choose the hold it. Surfaces are pitted to provide just enough coarseness on the surface of the handle to help with grip. The blade came very, very sharp and has been handling everything I've thrown at it with aplomb. The back of the knife is hefty and while locked, the blade is secure with no give, no play. Closing requires pushing a well-appointed button which unlocks the blade. There's also a color-coded lock on the handle that prevents deployment, which is a welcome safety feature on a knife that springs instantly into action. I also like the clip. It is sturdy and has enough room to slip on to just about any material the pocket is made of. It is so secure that you can forget about the knife falling out of your pocket even in a full outright run, it's not going anywhere. The clip is shaped such that a thumb fits quite nicely into a grove that facilitates pulling the knife out though it won't be without effort. Loving the knife so far.

Best everyday carry knife I've ever used.
I carry this knife with me everywhere. Here are some great things I love about it: -Fits in your pocket with the clip system perfectly. I love how the clip is put on the end of the handle away from the blade so that when you pull it out you don't have to flip it around again to open it. So many other knives do this and it feels so counter-intuitive and irritating to carry a knife like that. -Spring assisted opening is fast and works great. -Locking mechanism is great if you want to put it in a bag or inside your pocket and don't want it to open up in there. (If you wear it the way I do where it is attached to the top of your pocket so the clip sticks out a little bit, it shouldn't open in your pocket. It never has for me and I don't keep the locking mechanism engaged). -Awesome quality blade. Serrations are razor sharp and have stayed so throughout months and months of use. -The handle's design is very nice and grippy and I love the ergonomic indent design for your two fingers- it feels awesome in your hand. -Inconspicuous clip design. When it's sticking out of your pocket it looks like a pen. It's also a great design because the clip is really far at the end of the handle so almost all of the knife is resting in your pocket. Mine has never fallen out of my pocket. -Speaking of the clip, it's reversible for lefties.

Good knife... only one problem
I really wanted to love this knife. I trust the Sog name (and still do) and I wanted to treat myself with a medium-high quality carry knife. The low profile clip and lightweight feel are major pluses. Its a good quality blade and came sharp but not stupid sharp. Time will test how durable it is, but I have no reason to doubt its performance of late. My only reservation is the stupid lock feature. I have never been a fan of safeties on things in general but was willing to overlook this one. However, on many occasions, I have left the safety off in my pocket, and found the very act of pulling it out to use it causes the safety to easily flip on. This has effected me at my work place as I have tried to pull this knife out from concealment and open it with one hand, but could not because the safety was on and it requires two hands to undo the safety. This is a small and overlook-able feature, but one that has affected me negatively in the exact environment I needed it to deliver. When not on safety, it opens and can even be closed nicely with one hand, which is another big plus. But I cannot give this knife 5*s for the annoying locking feature that is too easily triggered. I would recommend considering another knife, even another Sog knife, that doesn't have a locking mechanism if you too feel it might be a problem for you.

I love this knife!!
I love this knife! I bought it before a camping trip because I wanted a knife with a serrated edge. But as soon as I got this knife if became my absolute favorite knife. Here are some of the Pros. It has a super fast automatic spring assisted opening. Its really lightweight and easy to carry. I dont typically carry a knife but I started to with this one. They clip at the top keeps the knife really concealed and is impressively strong. After looking at it at first I was worried it would fall out, but it has stayed secure through everything including running and jumping and ive even used it with basketball shorts. The blade its self is really well made. It doesnt scratch easy and seems like it is not going dull anytime soon. This knife is razor sharp. And I mean sharp, its by far the sharpest knife I have. Even though its made out of the glass nylon handle, it is rock solid and has no wiggle or play at all. The only con I have had so far has been with the lock. Ive noticed sometime it will lock in my pocket. I am not sure why but in terms of pulling it out some times I get caught off guard when its locked, and even that is not a real problem and seems to be a really low percentage of the time.

Awesome.
I never leave home without this knife. Great for self defense or as a pocket knife. The hilt is as durable as I have ever seen and every mechanism was built to last. Previous reviewers have said that the action is fast, well they are right! If I have the knife clipped to my pocket so that only the clip is showing (essentially the knife is upside-down), then I can grab it, spin it so that my thumb is on the clip (right handed) and with a quick downward and forward thrust, the blade springs out, ready for anything. I actually put it down the front of my slacks so that I don't have to use my pocket space (they are usually filled with gadgets and flash drives, etc.). If I am wearing a belt or black slacks, then you can hardly see the clip, but the knife is always ready in a moments notice. Take it anywhere and nobody will know that it is there. Oh and it is razor sharp out of the box and I've never had it open accidentally, even without the safety catch; although, I have dropped the knife before and it has openned when the safety catch is off, so be careful. Great knife! I highly recommend.

A great knife, comfortable, good mechanism, good looking.
I had a standard satin finish SOG Flash II but fell in love wit the Titanium Nitrate coating, especially after having to remove rust from my standard Flash II a few times. (Peaches are apparently really acidic...) The blade is of great quality and comes sharp as the devil's pitchfork from the factory. The finish is beautiful and the steel strength is adequate. The deployment mechanism is reliable as ever and easy even for folks with dexterity issues. The released was a bit stiff for the first few days of use but after that it retracts nicely and is easily done one-handed. The safety lock works perfectly and the pocket clip is sturdy and easy to draw when needed. Overall this knife is a great everyday knife and looks great. The only thing I'm not a fan of the is the glass reinforced nylon; I know it's light and it's very durable, but it just feels like a cheap, brittle material. Note that it is NOT a cheap/brittle materials, but it just doesn't feel right.

Solides Back-Up Knife
