Review: Great recipes, great art, and great comments and instructions - This book arrived a few days ago and I have cooked two recipes already and carefully reviewed many others. This book will get a lot of use here. The design and pictures are stunning and the meals look wonderful. The recipes are clear and concise. Many "ethnic" meals are included yet the ingredients are fairly common if not in your pantry already. This is great way to get "off the beaten track" of day-to-day meals without all the pomp and ceremony! I am increasingly impressed with Cooking Light. Being more of a traditional cook I was concerned that I would be disappointed with low calorie meals. The recipes in Global Kitchen are full flavored without being high calorie. Of the dozens of good cook books I own this one can only be described as "Outstanding!" Review: Nice book - Fun recipes with beautiful photos. The recipes tend to focus on specific cuisines within that geographical area but it's still a nice book.

Such a fun book for trying new cuisines!
I have had this book for a year or two, and I still find myself going back to it again and again! The pictures are so vibrant and pretty that I display mine on a recipe stand instead of on the shelf with the rest of my cookbooks. We have loved the Fall Curry, Tikka Masala, Potato Poblano and Chorizo Tacos, and Chicken Souvlaki. Many of the recipes have to be prepared fresh on the stovetop (with a 7 month old I tend towards dinners that I can prep ahead during naps), so I typically plan to use recipes from this book on evenings my husband will be home to entertain the baby. I have had at least one friend visit who went home and bought this book for themselves right away!

And I'll buy and recommend it happily if it follows the same concept
The author said he can't cover all and this is a fair slice. Well I want more!! And I'll buy and recommend it happily if it follows the same concept. I absolutely LOVE this book!! I just bought it yesterday and can't put it down. Never felt so exited about a cookbook, I'm relatively new cook and I appreciate how interestingly simple this book is in explaining cultures and cooking techniques. I'll devour this book and I'll hoping and paying for the author to make many more in the future!! Here are a few improvements I would appreciate form the next ones (fingers crossed) Table of contents: many cooking books nowadays have a cute picture of table of contents as if the recipe were a product. Is it frizzer friendly? How long is recommended to store your meal for and whether or not you can freeze it. The book specifies total amount and active cooking time, it would be nice if you can quickly see in the recipe the preparation time as well, that way I'll prepare it quickly in the morning and when I come back from work I can do the cooking.

I Love this Book
This has been so much fun. I have worked my way through the recipes in this book and we enjoyed them. It is easy to follow, tells you how long it's going to take and turns out yummy. It's a little strange how some things serve 4 and some serve 15, but that's easy to look out for and adjust if you know about it. Overall this has been an adventure for my family. Some of the recipes we have added to what we make all the time - Red Lentils!!! I also love that so many different kinds of food and places are represented, instead of just one country or region.

Gorgeous Pictures, but Somewhat Disappointed
I was really excited about this cook book and I bought it months ago. It was so beautiful that I dreamed of making the dishes in the pictures. I'm pretty experienced in the kitchen and have a refined palette and understanding of foods from around the world, so I thought this would be perfect as I'm a foodie at heart. Somehow, I looked at this book so many times but really never brought myself to make anything in it. Yes, it was inspiring and informative but really there are too many ingredients that take too much effort to find - almost like you really have to buy everything in order to make one meal. I didn't find this book too useful despite the glamorous feel. It appears to be a nice present, like a look book but doesn't really serve too much of a useful purpose. This is not my first Cooking Light cookbook and I usually love them and use them until they are a mess....this one didn't really fall into that category. Somewhat disappointed.

Travel cookbook overview
I bought this book for my wife, who has a bucket list desire to "cook her way through an entire cookbook" this review is written 3 years after purchase, and about 60% of recipes completed. This review is written by her: The Global Kitchen cookbook is the perfect way for travel foodies to get their fix at home, especially for those not living in an urban, multicultural centre with alot of food choices. I get my travel fix within the comfort of home. The recipes are, for the most part, very straightforward. I really like how each recipe has a " hands on time" and "total time" as it makes planning and prep easier. They aren't always 100% accurate for me, but pretty close. The majority of recipes you can find the ingredients for at your local supermarket, as long as they have a small international section, and at a bulk barn or other spot where you can find more unusual spices. I'm at the point now (60% completed) where my remaining recipes take a bit more planning than just using stuff that I have on hand or can get easily. I have not completed a bad recipe yet. There are some that were fantastic, some just okay or not worth the effort, most of them were " mm, that was good". Some were surprising how tasty they were based on the selection of ingredients (ie the Chilean meat and corn pie). That's the beauty of this book, you get to try things you would otherwise never get to eat or even think to order. Esthetically, the photos for each recipe are nice. There's a little write up with each recipe to give a bit of background on the dish, which is also a nice teaching moment when cooking. I would definitely recommend this for the everyday cook who wants to expand their knowledge and get out of their comfort zone.
