This is just a raw roll of plastic fiber optic cable. It is good for your own projects and arts/crafts where you want to use something like this for visual effects. I tried cutting a few small pieces to test with and short lengths look good when attached to an LED for light source. They leak very little light from the side, but emit at the other end which is exactly what I need for my project. Out of curiosity, I tried seeing how bright the end of the whole length would be (after removing about 4 foot length from it) and in complete darkness could not really see anything from the other end. So not sure what the ideal max length is for this type of usage. For short 2 foot length, the light emitted was satisfactory to me.
