desertcart.com: LEONARD BERNSTEIN: AN ORAL HISTORY, Volume 1: Interviews from the 11-Hour Radio Documentary: “Leonard Bernstein: An American Life” eBook : Rowland, Steve: Kindle Store Review: This book presents transcripts of 13 (out of 84) interviews with prominent people in the life and career of Leonard Bernstein. The interviews date from 1996 to 2004 and were used in the preparation of an 11-hour radio documentary series. Most of the interviewees have sadly since died, making this a valuable souvenir of them as well as of Lennie. There are countless interesting comments and insights. The book is self-published and herein lies the problem. The physical quality of the book (my copy is a 'print on demand' version) is fine - clearly printed on good paper and perfect bound - but the editing leaves something to be desired. There are several obvious mistranscriptions and some of the content is not really relevant, being about the interviewee rather than his or her connection to Lennie. And on page 203 the interview with Marin Alsop ends abruptly mid-sentence - see photo. These things only go to emphasise the 'homemade' character of the book. Even so I certainly hope to see a Volume 2.
