Super simple installation! But a few tips ...
I am so thrilled to have this lock! No more kids losing or forgetting their keys! No more logistics of getting a key to the pet sitter! If someone needs emergency access when we are not around, we can just give them the code - and then delete or change it later.I just received this lockset and installed it. I was installing it in a door that already had a deadbolt, which I removed, so the holes were already drilled. (If you are installing it into a new door, there is a drilling template.) I worked carefully, but this was one of the easiest installations of any products that I've purchased in recent memory! Everything went smoothly and worked as it should on the first try. The only tool that I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver.A few key tips:The box included two instruction booklets - one in English and one in Spanish. Or at least the first and last pages of the one booklet were in English - the middle two pages were in Spanish on both papers! This was a problem for me, as I unfortunately do not speak Spanish. Luckily, you can go to the Kwikset website and download the complete instructions in English.Other reviews, and the installation instructions, said that there would be one screw that required an enclosed Allen wrench. My box did not appear to include that screw or that wrench, so all of the screws that I used had Phillips heads (which was more convenient). You can set a Master Code so that only the person who knows the Master Code can add or delete lock codes (the Master Code will not unlock the door). The instructions that came in the box did not include instructions on how to do this, but you can download the Programming and Troubleshooting Guide from the Kwikset website and it includes these instructions. You can toggle switches inside the lock to: (1) turn on or off the beep; (2) to turn on or off the light -- it flashes periodically in colors that indicate whether the lock is unlocked (blinking green), locked (blinking amber), low battery (blinking red), or to indicate a problem (solid red); and (3) turn on or off the option to have the door lock automatically 30 seconds after unlocking. The only negative for my application was that I was unable to rekey the lock to match my existing key. My existing key was the wrong size and shape to fit into the lock. I'm guessing you have to have a Kwikset key to use this feature.

I have one of these all of my outside doors.
This is a great add-on for anyone with an outside facing deadbolt. It is very easy to install, has versatility in door, size and thickness, and comes with most every part you will ever need. I find the convenience of the combination lock to be very nice. Instead of giving a key to someone, you can program this to their personal code. You can set it up as temporary, or permanent. The keyboard is lit up as you push the combination so nighttime entrance is pretty straightforward. You can also re-key these two your existing , outdoor locks that are also Kwikset. Tool to do that and it is very straightforward. This is one of those items that you can do yourself instead of calling for a contractor or locksmith to come to it for you. I would recommend.

Brush up on your spanish...my lock only had English instructions for the first half of the install!
Overall, I like the lock. It works pretty well. My only complaints have to do with the instructions.Like most products these days, this lock came with instructions in multiple languages. There were two sets, one that had English and two other languages (I didn't pay attention to which two) and another set with three totally different languages. I was, obviously, working from the English set.And it went fine up through step 4. Then I turned the page, and found that the rest of the instructions weren't printed in English!!Well, I'm a bright guy...and there were pictures, so I soldiered on! But there's one part where they point to the 'lock' button, and then another arrow points to the deadbolt itself. It seems obvious from the pictures that to test the lock, you're supposed to push the 'lock' button, and the deadbolt is supposed to move out and then back in, to calibrate the lock! But it doesn't. Obviously, there was something in the print that the pictures didn't make obvious.Well, OK...I went to my computer and found the directions online. I didn't READ them on the PC...I just verified steps 5 and on were in English, and printed them. When I got back downstairs, and went looking for step 5, it wasn't there. Why? because the directions are in a PDF on a page that's legal sized...so my printer printed the top two thirds and cut off the rest! Crap!So after printing them again, I got back to work. That's when I found out I was supposed to hold the lock button WHILE inserting battery pack, and keep the button depressed while the lock cycled. I guess I'm not so smart...I didn't get that from two simple arrows pointing to the lock button and the deadbolt!OK...so at this point, the lock is installed. I set my code, and that worked fine as well! Finally, I was on to re-keying the lock to use my old keys! The tool to re-key the lock, and the accompanying instructions, are packaged individually. These instructions WERE printed in English! They tell you, both in words and with pictures, that you're supposed to turn the key 1/4 turn, insert the little tool, remove your old key, and then insert the new one. What they DON'T tell you is that the tool you insert doesn't go all the way in. It feels like it hits a wall, and just stops. The directions say you might feel a click. There wasn't any click. There was nothing at all that felt like the pin had done anything! But, it apparently HAD done what it was supposed to do, because I finally just decided to take it on faith, and move on. From that point on, it worked exactly as the instructions said it would. So, long story short, just know that the little tumbler tool might not make any noise, and it won't feel like it's actually done anything!Anyway...I took off a star because the instructions suck! But on the other hand, the lock seems to work pretty well, and by the way, it allowed me to re-key it to match my other locks even though they are NOT kwik-set locks or keys. Apparently, they have to be 'Kwik-set TYPE' keys!I like that I can add a code of up to 8 digits...cause I'm paranoid! You can add up to 36 codes, I think, though I can't imagine 36 people I'd want to have access to my house. I'm not even sure I'm going to tell my wife...

¡Funciona muy bien!
Es muy fácil de instalar, programar y usar. Las llaves operan el mecanismo de bloqueo directamente, cuando las baterías no funcionan.

Never thought a lock would bring so much joy (and convenience) in my life!
I only had one key left on my key ring so I went out to look for a smart lock because I love tech. All the big guys have nice products but just a bit too pricey for the added value I would get in my life IMO. Plus I was afraid that the wife would have trouble using them and let's be honest, these things are great when they work but with all things wifi and bluetooth, there is always a time when they just fail you for no good reason and then you don't remember how you set it up in the first place yadiyadiyada. So at one point I discovered it didn't have to be complicated and went for this electronic lock instead of a smart lock. This is the best little thing that happen to my house this year. It was installed in ten minutes, had a few codes programmed and it just work. Now I never need to worry if I got my key when going out.I would have gone for a non motorize model but none of them would fit my small bore hole (1.5" instead of the standard 2 1/8"). The motor takes about 2 seconds to unlock the door which some people find unnerving but I don't mind. It's also a bit noisy but I don't mind that either.I have been using it for one summer month now so I don't know about battery life yet and also if there are issues in the cold winter months. The motor is inside the house though so I doubt there will be any issue.Long story short I never thought such an inexpensive lock would bring so much joy (but mostly convenience) in my life.Oh and the wife loves it too!

Noisy, a little tough to operate but quality construction
***updatein -30 celcius (-39 with windchill) the lock still works. I also have the same batteries in there and it's been a year.Changed me review to 5 stars.Installation was pretty easy, took around 30-45 minutes. The instructions were easy to follow which helped. It works well but I noticed it is really noisy, like ridiculously noisy. This is our second electronic deadbolt and our other one only makes a small ``tzittttt`` sound. Now, I don't know if this is because there's some friction but before installation I did notice the bolt was a little tough to move. I hope this won't cause premature breakage in the mechanism. There is no friction between the strike plate and the deadbolt, it's installed correctlyThumbturn is a little difficult to turn, even when door is open which is kind of odd.The design is very nice and the material is good quality. Spring is almost here so I don't know how it will resist the -30 celcius we have here in the winter. I hope it holds up.
