Q: It looks like this would prevent the battery compartment on my Olympus Tough tg-6 from being opened. How easy is it to remove on the fly?

You do need the allen key to remove it. I have a Canon 5D and there is no interference with my battery compartment I do not know about yours.

Q: Will this work to mount the Sony Alpha 6500 on to the Skout sling?

Yes. This will mount any camera with the standard 1/4" threaded hole in the bottom, which the Alpha 6500 does have.

Q: what is the diameter of this hub?

The circular piece that attaches to the camera and slides into the holster is 1.25”. I have found that the plate that this mounts to is the piece in question. On my Nikons it does not block the battery compartment.
