My Neighbor Totoro Picture Book

Glossy paper, loved the pictures, this is not five minutes read children love to see the pictures and listen/ read the story. I am very happy with the book. Although it came with torn binding from outside in one end, I couldn't return it as children loved the book. I had to fix it myself.

My 5 year old is obsessed with Totoro and this book was the perfect gift for her. She loves it and her baby brother likes it too.

Both my daughters are fan of this. One is two and other five but both listen or read it with active interest.

The book quality is great. And the artwork is superb. No great surprise when you see who did the illustration. The great Hayao Miyazaki himself! I'm hoping this'll be the book that turns my 6-yr old niece onto the wondrous worlds of Studio Ghibli.

Book is so good. It is not only recommended for kid. Adults can also get so much joy as kids. 10/10 recommended. The cover for slightly torn on the bottom in my purchase. Otherwise is so good.

I really like miyazaki's work and I was so excited for this book.. I am happy to receive it but there are some things which can be done better.. 1) At this price the picture quality is not that good. Its good but not up to the mark.. okayish 2) Then as it is a picture book It could have had many pictures.. these pictures are not enough. 3) it looks like it is a children's book than a picture book. If you name this book as children book it is best in that sense.. but as a picture book it is not that good. Anyways I am keeping it as I love ghibli.. Will buy another ghibli book in future though.. not these pictures books.

Mi hija de 21 meses es una ferviente fan de Totoro. Este libro es de las cosas imprescindibles en nuestra casa, la peque es capaz de hojearlo día y noche, reviviendo cada escena de la película. El libro en sí es de calidad inmejorable: buen papel, gran colorido, muy buena selección de imágenes. Que esté en inglés importa poco, además es un texto de estructura sencilla que en un futuro servirá para reforzar el idioma.

Ich besitze dieses Buch bereits auf Japanisch (mit japanischer Leserichtung) und wollte schauen, ob die englischen Picture Books von Ghibli ebenfalls in derselben guten Aufmachung sind wie die japanischen. Ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Ich bin auch erfreut und erleichtert, dass die Bilder für die europäische Leserichtung nicht gespiegelt wurden und denen des Films treu geblieben sind (ich erinnere mich noch an einen Manga, der in Deutschland (mit europ. Leserichtung) einmal erschienen ist und bei dem einfach die Bilder gespiegelt wurden, damit sie für die europäische Leserichtung auch Sinn ergaben). Das Picture Book enthält Screenshots aus dem Film. Am Ende gibt es noch eine liebevolle Darstellung wo wie was sich in der Gegend befindet. Dieses Buch enthält keine ggf. lästigen, eingefügten Sprechblasen an den Bildern, die einige Aussprüche noch einmal unterstreichen (bei dem Kiki's Delivery Service Picture Book z.B. "WOW" von der Bäckersfrau, als sie sieht, dass Kiki auf einem Besen fliegen kann, etc.). Da es diese Ghibli-Picture-Books leider nicht auf Deutsch zu geben scheint, ist diese englische Reihe ein schöner Ersatz, wenn man seinem Kind die Ghibli-Filme ein wenig näher bringen möchte (ok, vielleicht noch nicht die Picture Books von Prinzessin Mononoke oder Spirited Away (Chihiros Reise ins Zauberland) XD). Edit: Tatsächlich ist nicht 100% der Geschichte abgebildet. Es fehlt z.B. die Neben-Szene in der Mei mit der Nachbars-Großmutter vor Satsukis neuer Schule stehen und Mei dann im Klassenzimmer neben ihrer Schwester Totoro malt und stolz verkündet, dass das Totoro sei. Oder es fehlt die Szene, wo die beiden bei Regen nach Hause gehen und dann bei einem Buddha Halt machen. (Aber die Hauptstory ist natürlich abgebildet. Diese beiden Nebenszenen fehlen im übrigen auch in der japanischen Buch-Version.)

First up, next day delivery to a regional town is insane! Well done. The book itself is great, the hardcover is nice and it's a good size for reading along with kids. It's quite lengthy and great quality for the price. It has the majority of the key scenes from the movie, though there are some exceptions). Some of the images are slightly blurry (screen grabs of the film I would assume), however for the most part the book looks great, with some of the larger images working really well. It is well suited to smaller kids (2-3 year olds will like the images, and older will be able to read along). If they like the film they'll like the book.

Ładnie wydana książka z prawdziwymi kadrami z filmu, tekst po angielsku, ale napisany prostym, zrozumiałym językiem. Książka opowiada historię znaną z filmu oraz kilka dodatkowych ciekawostek.

My 2 year old daughter was introduced to Totoro by our neighbour dropping off a copy. My neighbour introduced us to My Neighbour Totoro, yes, you read that correctly. We had not heard of Totoro or Kiki's Delivery Service and were quite skeptical when he briefly described the story and characters. A side note on our neighbour... we live in TO and bought a semi-detached about three years ago. My first meeting with our neighbour goes like this: Me: (After hellos, and small talk) How long have you lived here? Him: I don't even know anymore. Over 40 years. Me: Wow. You don't even look that old. Him: I'm 76. Me: Wow! You don't look it. What's your secret to looking so young? Him: (shrugs) Booze, drugs, loose women. Needless to say, I love my neighbour right from the get-go, but when this guy says "I've got a video of Japanese animation your daughter will love..." As I said, this seemed a little sketchy; nevertheless, our daughter was only interested in YouTube on the iPad so we gave this a shot because a little TV is a welcome break for any parent. So, naturally, our daughter loves Totoro right away, and laughs and shouts every time Totoro makes an appearance. She sings along to all the songs. So, with Xmas coming we looking for some Miyazaki paraphernalia. We ordered this book, and the Kiki book too, with a resigned attitude that it was going to be all that was available. We are still reeling over the quality of this book. It is a beautiful companion for a young child to the movies. Totoro is over 25 years old now, and not a North American invention so that limits the amount of swag for the movie, but if we never find something other than this book - we're still good. The book has many screen shots from the movie and had a lot more pages than we expected. There are even little background details about Totoro and the characters you wouldn't get in the movie. I would think of this book like a companion you might find for Lord of the Rings. Maps, stories, background details. Not to the same degree as that LOTR, but it gives you and idea. Hopefully my daughter loves this book as much as her parents do. Can't wait for Xmas!
