How does the dimming work? When I want to turn off the lamp, do I have to press multiple times going through all the levels of dimming before its off?

There’s one button to press to turn the lamp on/off, and 1 (-) button for dimming and a (+) button for brightening. When you turn it on it will be on the lowest setting always. You can turn the lamp off when on either setting just by one push. No need to dim all the way to turn off.

Do i need a special light bulb?

I don't know as I have had it only about 9 months. It is as strong as ever. It is a LED light soshould last for many years.

Can this lamp be used for low light in a room, and also as a bright light for reading?

There are 4 settings for brightness. The lowest setting is quite low and easy on the eyes in a dark room. The brightest setting is like daylight at noon, depending on the size of the room. The programmed increments are excellent for a variety of lighting needs.

Can you turn off the blue light of the power button?

The blue light stays on all the time as long as it's plugged in. But you can easily tape it off with some black electrical tape. Adding a dark thin shield between the blue light and the tape will ensure you have a totally dark room.
