Genuine item, exceptional quality
There are a lot of fake clones of this product out there, but I received a genuine Engineer brand item from this seller as expected. The quality is amazingly good, as I expected from product reviews on youtube and this brand's reputation for making quality tools. I finally got to try it out the other day and it worked perfectly, I'm extremely pleased. The innovative flexible and heat resistant silicone tip seems to work really well, not that I've actually experienced using one with the old rigid plastic kind to be fair. Addressing some points made in a couple of critical reviews: (1) I have average-sized man hands and I found it perfectly comfortable to hold and operate. It does not need a backplate to the plunger. (2) I did not find the spring to be too strong at all. Of course a strong spring means better suction, and the reviewer was comparing against something that is 20 years old, the spring of which has probably weakened over time as springs can do. I did not feel any thumb fatigue at all when removing solder from a 30-odd pin connector. (3) It takes only a mere few seconds to unscrew/rescrew the front end if/when needed, the reviewer's estimation of half a minute is a big exaggeration. (4) The 350°C heat resistance of the silicone tip is not an issue, you don't need your iron all the way up at 400°C, I achieved my work perfectly easily at 340 and you're only touching the silicone to the iron for a split second in any case. (5) I found the price to be perfectly reasonable. (6) Another reviewer found that the rod that pushes out clogged solder from the tip did not extend all of the way through the silicon tube, but it did on mine, so perhaps they did not push the plunger down fully, or he had a overly long bit of tube fitted, or the design has been tweaked.

Best I’ve used to date.
It’s a bit pricey compared to the competition but it does it’s job incredibly well. The tool is very well made and feels like a quality item. The spring is pretty firm so requires a bit of effort to push but this is what gives it the strength. When you button is pushed the action is smooth solid with only a little bounce to the tool. The little silicone hose tip will look tiny but it easily fits over even a 2mm solder tab. The hardest part was holding the board still so I could get the sucker into place and with a good seal. So long as I did this and the joint was fully melted id get a nice clean result. The only real down side is the solder is pushed out again when you prime it and this can often get stuck, especially if it was a lot of solder. This just pulls off easily however. Occasionally you may need to need to pop the tube off. The picture shows a removed 3PDT foot switch. I was struggling with solder wick and a large blue and yellow pump. This engineer model had them all clean in 1-2 pumps and only needed a little wiggle to free the switch with no board damage.

Powerful and accurate suction
One of the best solder suckers I have used. I'll never use the cheap colourful plastic suckers again after using this one. Works perfectly at locating wet solder and sucks it up instantly leaving no solder blobs. This is definitely due to the little silicone (I think) tube on the nozzle. It lets you place on top of the solder tip without melting unlike the others. Even adding a silicone tube to the cheap ones will not do them justice because the reaction time of the sucker cannot compare to this brilliant bit of kit. Well worth keeping in any electrical engineers or DIY toolbox. Professional bit of kit. Don't cheap out. I was skeptical but the risk was worth it.

Great product
Great product that comes with spare silicone nozzles, that’s functionality is MUCH better than other solder suckers, higher quality silicone allows for suction closer to a hot solder joint which can’t be replicated with cheaper solder suckers as they would melt. the value for money is excellent, although it’s expensive it’s well worth the investment to get the best equipment that’ll last as long as you need, it’s very easy to use and is capable of accepting high heat levels, the size can fit in your hand easily aswell. the only problem is that it needs lithium grease to function as maintenance measure, which isn’t supplied with the solder sucker. this would make it a perfect product

Very Surprising SMALL piece of kit!
I have been using various desoldering devices professionally for around 30 years, never owned my own desolder station. I have only used one owned by an employer, so for personal stuff I have had to rely on a solder sucker. I have been passed large amount of 30+ years old Spectrums and commodores to repair in my spare time, but my solder sucker has fallen to bits, so I was looking for a replacement, when I came across this one. I was a bit reluctant due to it high price tag, but at the same time I wanted something a little better than the norm, as the cheap solder suckers can be very annoying to say the least. Anyway it arrived this morning, on opening the package I was shocked at how small this thing actually is, I was thinking no chance that something that small would not be any good on a 30 year old double sided board. I powered up my old Antex 25w soldering iron, with the intention of just trying to remove a single 16 pin dil ram chip. I learned very quickly that my old method was not going to work with this thing as the tip is very easy to squash, anyway I found that if a heat up a solder joint then bring in the solder sucker and just touch it to the board with no pressure it worked. (It’s true that the tip will not melt using a 25w iron anyway). Anyway after doing all the legs I was not expecting any of them to actually be free, so imagine my shock when the chip practically just fell out, this never happens on these boards even with an expensive desolder stations. Anyway I was that impressed I went on to remove all 8 ram chips without a single track or pad lifted (A bit overkill, but socketing the full ram is worthwhile). Yes I had to resolder a couple of legs and try again, and some legs had to be manipulated a bit with the tip of the iron. This thing so far is the best solder sucker I have ever come across, yes as others say it does clog a bit from time to time (just like any solder sucker) and a couple of times I had remove the silicone tube / tip and poke it out with a cocktail stick. Yes of course just like any desolder tool if you accidentally have a leg that is not free and apply to much force when removing a component a track could be lifted. When removing chips from double sided board one thing you will need is lots of is patients. Overall I am finding it hard to fault this thing, after using it for a few weeks I will report back if I have any problems, but I do think that will be unlikely. The ZX Spectrum that I used this thing on is now repaired and loading a game whilst I am writing this.

Good solder sucker
Good solder sucker, hasn’t let me down. Comes with extra length for replacing nozzles. Long lasting

Quite simply, this is the sucker you need in your life.
I was a bit hesitant when I saw the price, but this was recommended to me. I have purchased the usual cheapo suckers and never been impressed. They barely do the job and are quite frustrating. I have also purchased the more expensive ones from RS and Farnell and whilst they are better, they still fell short of what I wanted from a handheld solder sucker. Now, I own an air sucking station that makes easy work of desoldering, so I just want one that I can use quickly, mostly when I want to remove just a resistor, or an LED for example. So it needed to be able to worth not powering up my station. This Solder Sucker is the one. The only Solder Sucker I have used in 30 years of soldering that actually performs how you want it to. The silicone nozzle is very heat resistant, but even so, you get some spare with it. Japanese quality really shines through and It sucks like a porn star. It's quite small, but has some weight to it and the machined all metal construction speaks volumes about the build quality. This think will last and even if it only lasted a year, I'd buy another at the drop of a hat. It really is that good. Pay the extra guys and gals, this sucker needs to suck yours off.

Very impressive
I've used cheap basic solder suckers many times over the years with mixed results. They're not usually that great but certainly better than nothing. Well I needed to remove a faulty chip from an old Commodore disk drive and decided to take the risk and spend a bit more on a solder sucker. I wasn't expecting miracles but I was a bit speechless when I started to use this one. It's quite a compact unit but beautifully made. The silicone tubing on the tip allows for a better seal and therefore more suction. Well, this great little tool sucked every bit of solder out on the first try and that chip almost fell off the board. The pads were as good as new, ready to solder in a new socket. I couldn't recommend this more, worth every penny!

This thing works!
The classic solder sucker. This will do the job and do it well. The average home user or electronics workshop technician won't need anything else... industrial users will pay a lot more for a more complex tool. I wouldn't be without this one.

This thing sucks real hard, but in this case that's a very good thing.
This is the best solder sucker I have ever used by a VERY large margin. It delivers an amazing amount of suction, and the soft silicone tip is super effective at maximizing how much of that suction is actually useful. It can pull off a huge amount of solder, especially considering the size of the thing. That's really the only potentially contentious thing about this tool. Compared to a typical cheap-o solder sucker this thing is tiny. The whole thing from the tip to the extended plunger is only about 15 cm (that's only 6 inches for you few remaining imperial idiots). When the plunger is engaged and it's armed and ready to fire, it's only about 12 cm (~4.75 idiot units). When you're used to the big ol' plastic cheap-o ones this can feel a little small in the hand at first, but you'll get used to it soon enough. At like half the size, this thing works better than twice as good. It is of all metal construction (precision machined aluminum) except for the silicone tip which is replaceable with standard silicone tube (the package even comes with enough spare tube to make a dozen or so new tips from). The spring is nice and strong, and the plunger/piston assembly is extremely smooth to use. The amount of suction is on the very high end of all the suckers I've tried and its effectiveness is completely unchallenged. Engineer branded tools are made to a level of craftsmanship and quality that is completely unknown to most manufacturers. Yes, they're not the cheapest option to be found, but they still offer the best value for money because the value really is just that much higher than the cheaper alternatives. I hate to make the unilateral claim that the made in japan badge is a universal sign of great quality, but so far in my experience that statement has never proven to be wrong. I'm sure the Japanese do make some cheap, low quality products, but if they do they're sure not exporting them. Engineer is hands down my new favourite brand in hand tools. I've since bought some precision nippers from them as well which are of equally high quality. They'll be getting a similar glowing review from me. TL/DR: This thing is absolutely great and well worth the extra money. Order one right now. Trust me, you'll fart rainbows every time you use it.

Japanese make Engineer SS-02 Solder Sucker (De-soldering pump)
This is a Japanese make De-soldering pump or (Solder Sucker) with excellent build quality and performance. Ergonomically designed to operate with one hand. The length of the tool is less than other models. People with small hands can operate it easily with moderate force.
