0.5mm Mechanical Pencil Night Blue Series (925 35-05)

This pencil was a recent edition after doing heavy research into lead types, different styles of graphite, lead thickness, and the virtues of having something other than "#2 pencil." As a caveat, I am left handed and have a terrible writing wrist. I have struggled with pencils all my life. This is a mechanical lead holder, except the clutch mechanism is not a "slip" mechanism, meaning it progressively advances in measurable increments the lead, rather than a simple vise that uses spring tension to hold the lead. The pencil itself is stunning and the fit and finish are extraordinary. It's all metal (likely aluminum) and the blue is a deep blue. The bare metals all polished. The clip is sturdy. The inside holder for the lead (which only fits one) is brass (some other reviews report plastic, but mine did not have it). The point cap screws on tightly. The lead viewfinder (that indicates what type) is adjusted with the lead cap, which means it stays sturdy in its place until you're ready to change the lead type. This keeps the viewfinder from wandering. The overall fit and finish is excellent, and the weight feels heavier than a traditional pencil, but not so heavy as to annoy my left hand. When advancing the lead, it feels very sturdy, and the clutch is tight, which means there's not a lot of "give" in how much of the lead advances. I also played with pushing the lead back in (to see if it would grind against the clutch mechanism) and it had absolutely no grind or scratch, indicating that the mechanism has enough give as to not rub off excess graphite (and potentially lubricate the mechanism and cause slip later on). It comes with an HB lead, but I bought Staedtler Mars Carbon 2B refills. Overall, this is a fabulous choice, and cannot recommend it highly. If you are someone who cherishes their writing instruments and doesn't loose them, then this is a fabulous replacement for ye' ole wood pencil. If you are someone who could care less, I would implore you to consider yourself and your habits and maybe change them for nicer and longer lasting instruments such as this. :)

So far this Mechanical pencil is the best. It does not come with a sharpener. I love the feel of it. There is some weight to it, but it feels balanced. I switched the lead to a 2H which I prefer. The HB that comes with it was nice. I will be getting HB lead in the future. I bought a package of 12 2H lead that fits other lead holding Mechanical pencils.

The construction feels solid, and I haven't encountered any issues with the mechanism or lead jamming. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase of the Staedtler 0.5mm Mechanical Pencil in Night Blue. While I haven't given it a full five stars due to some minor issues with eraser durability, it's still a reliable and stylish option for anyone in need of a quality mechanical pencil. Highly recommended!

EXCELLENT PENCIL!!!! It writes extremely smoothly, and the grip keeps the pencil from sliding around. It has a nice, comfortable weight, a sturdy/durable mechanism with a nice click, and a strong lead. This is a beautiful pencil, and I highly recommend it. It is a touch on the pricier end. If you're looking to spend a pretty penny for a nice writing utensil, this is the one.

I love this mechanical pencil. It makes writing small very legible and crisp. It is also comfortable to hold. I really love mechanical pencils. My only complaint is the eraser. Hard to replace or remove. Maybe I need more instructions. I end up having to use another eraser.

The Staedtler 2.0 mm Night Blue Series (925 25-20) is an all-metal mechanical pencil weighting 21 grams. The extra weight feels comfortable in my hand - better control. This pencil is quality built inside and out. I am amazed that Amazon is currently selling it for a little more than the Staedtler Mars 780 Technical pencil which has a plastic barrel and weighs only 13 grams. I own both pencils. The Staedtler 2.0 mm Night Blue Series is a much better pencil then the Staedtler Mars 780. The Night Blue Series works more like a mechanical pencil then a lead holder. It does not have the big gaping jaws at the tip. It advances the lead a little bit at a time like a normal mechanical pencil. You can always grab the lead and quickly pull it to a much longer length if needed. The pencil has an adjustable lead hardness degree indicator. I only use the Staedtler Mars Carbon Leads with this pencil. It is the best 2.0 mm lead I have experienced. PROS: - All metal construction. This baby is solid yet comfortable. It should last for years. - Adjustable lead hardness degree indicator. - Lead width indicator is on the cap. - Beautiful design and finish. - Heavier than the plastic 2.0 mm pencils - weights 21 grams. - It also comes in the color silver Staedtler 2.0mm Mechanical Pencil Silver Series (925 25-20) CONS: - Does not work with the rotary lead sharpeners. - It advances the lead like a normal mechanical pencil rather than a lead holder. The speed of lead advancement may be an issue for some people.

Despite collecting mechanical drafting pencils for years Staedler 925 is my favorite mechanical pencil. Compared against other high-end drafting pencils, the Staedler represents a great value, top quality construction, and an appealing form factor. Compared to the venerable Rotring 600, the 925 is far more comfortable (more even balance, larger grip with better knurling), durable (Rotring has perhaps the thinnest and most fragile lead pipe I've ever seen), and affordable (1/2 the current price, 1/3 or less for the classic model 600s that are better built). The 800 has the same issues but with the advantage of being pocket safe. Compared to the Alvin Draftmatics, again the Staedler is more comfortable with more precise knurling and larger grip. The Pentel Graph Gear 1000 is the closest competition to the 925 in smaller lead sizes. It is arguably more comfortable with the rubber grip inserts, and the spring-loaded clip is great for some people. I find it oversized, both in length and in width thanks to the clip. Otherwise is can be seen as a good alternative to the 925 for just a bit more money. Pentel's other graphing pencils, the Graph Gear 500 and 600, as well as the Graph 1000 for Pro, are all great options as well, but lack the extra polish and solidity of the 925. Less traditional graphing pencils like the Pilot graphing pencil or more everyday 'graphing-like' pencils such as the Kuru-toga or the Pentel Sharp all have their merits, but for a pure drafting pencil there is nothing that beats the Staedler 925.

Great quality. One of my favorites for drafting and writing. Its got a excellent grip that lets you keep hold of it perfectly. Comfortable and light and great value for money. It writes amazing too. This is one of my all time favorite mechanical pencils I've ever had

Superb Classy Product

This is my 1st mechanical Pencil that's not just a local cheap one, so it's hard for me to compare products. But I can say this much... It is a quality product Feels very nice in my hand, and writes very smoothly. I have the 0.5mm version and I've had no lead breakage so far (after about an hour of use) Although I can't really comment on it's longevity yet, it's all metal and and seems very well made (I expect this Pencil will last as long as any other well made product) The price is great (it's 5£ more on every other site I looked at, including eBay) I like it so much I might invest in the white version (924 25) with a 2mm lead, because this lead is very fine and it might be helpful to have a thicker option for my sketches Very highly recommended, I honestly can't imagine a £20 product being any better than this, unless I needed an auto-rotate pencil, I'd say this is the one to get, and save yourself a few pounds I know this isn't the most useful review, but you will not be disappointed in this product Very happy I might even invest in either a 2mm or 0.7/9, because my lines are very thin with this pencil and I can see a use for something with a bigg

Ottimo strumento per il disegno tecnico, e per scrivere. Ottimo bilanciamento, leggero ma con buona presa zigrinata. È anche elegante! Un gioiellino, con un meccanismo molto preciso. Il progetto è tedesco, e la costruzione giapponese: questi ultimi sono campioni di micromeccanica. Importante la finestrella che indica il tipo di mina utilizzata. Io ho già acquistato lo stesso prodotto 0.7, e non posso che parlare bene della Staedler.

Absolutely love these 925 JPN model Staedtlers. I bought three of the 0.5 mm and one 0.3 mm (mix of the silver and midnight blue). They come with 3 or so HB leads in the chamber. They have excellent weight and balance. I like heft to my drafting pencils and this provides a very good alternative to the much more expensive Rotrings. I have multiple pencils for variety of lead types for the price of one Rotring and, while not as good as Rotring, is very, very close, especially considering the price difference. The JPN models are very stylish looking and come with an adjustable ring that you can use to display the type of lead you have in each pencil. Only problem is it ends at 2B, so I just stick my 4B lead on the B label and 2B on 2B to differentiate. Not a big deal overall. One other issue I have with them is they are very quick to slide off objects, even with the pocket clip on the end. Careful on any incline/drafting desk, as a fall to the floor can lead to a bent tip very quickly. Mine came with plastic sheaths for each pencil, which is nice for storing them or transporting to prevent it poking through clothes or getting damaged. I dont usually travel with mine, so dont have a leather carrying case or anythign special for them.
