Beautiful wood, formidable size and weight, impervious to knife damage
Beautiful carving board, but it is heavy so be ready for it. Handles carving chores easily and is not damaged by sharp carving knives. The color and grain of the teak is exceptional and looks amazing, I normally put my carving boards away in my cabinets, but with this one, its a work of art so I leave it out for all who enter my kitchen to see.

Beautiful, heavy, stable, end-grain board
I just received this cutting board yesterday and have oiled it and used it once. It is everything I wanted and more. It's pretty great that ProTeak has discovered a great use for teak scraps so that their reduced cost is passed on to the consumer. I calculated how much it would cost me to build one out of new teak and found that this board, at only $114 was much less than I could build it for. There was one flaw that was patched but otherwise it is pretty much perfect for cutting up vegetables or cooked meats. Anyone with expensive cutlery probably already knows that a good wooden cutting board is necessary to get the most out of those knives and to protect them so that they last a long time. If you are one of those who know just how helpful a fine cutting board is for your cooking process, I highly recommend getting this board. End grain is the one professionals prefer due to the speed and control it affords. This one is heavy and stable due to it's full 2.5 inch thickness, but it has handles cut into the ends to make moving easier. There are no feet on the board so both sides are fully useable, but as most people know, wood cutting boards should not be soaked in water or set on a wet counter for any length of time or they will warp and/or split. Obviously, never let it near a dishwasher. Drying your counter and using a dry mat to keep the board from sliding around will not only make cutting, slicing, chopping, etc, more safe and stable, it will prevent water damage. If you want a cutting board you can put in the dishwasher, and is lightweight and convenient to use, I recommend avoiding wood and sticking with nylon/plastic cutting boards. Plastic boards have their place in the kitchen; I have a large plastic one to cut raw meat and smaller ones that can go in the dishwasher for quick-prep items. But if cutting and chopping vegetables is something you dread with your plastic cutting board, and you don't mind the hassles associated with caring for a wooden board, then get this beauty. I think you'll be impressed. Caveat: if you think the cutting board will look like just the picture, then think again. As with any real wood product, the grain varies between pieces so each product is unique. In addition, there is no effort made by the manufacturer to mirror the grains as they did with the one they show in the picture. To do that requires new pieces cut and matched and the board would cost twice as much. Even so, my board is still a work of art, even with totally random placement of the pieces.

Da Thickness!!!
Itโs by the most beautiful board I own. The 2.5in thickness and price is unmatchable. AMAZING!!!๐คฉ

Beautiful and functional.
Better than expected. Thick. Oil it a lot so that it lies flat. Otherwise perfect so fat.

Warped
Love this butcher block, but it did come in a little bit warped, I did install some rubber feet on the corners, which helped keeping it from rocking like a boat on the countertop other than that still usable, but perhaps they need to do some sort of step where they allow it to do it itโs warping thing and then they re-flatten it before final touches are done

Same Quality as Boos at half the cost
If you're not using an end-grain cutting board you need to switch. I replaced an edge grain Boos Block when I purchased this and can 100% tell the difference. There's absolutely zero staining or seepage into the wood, it's so hard and smooth that you can literally wipe the top clean with a paper towel just like you're granite countertop. The product really does look as good in person as it does online. There's a ton of variation in the wood tones which creates a really nice visual. I've used block for roughly 2 months and it seems to be holding up well - I've used it daily and it looks no different than the day it arrived. Not necessarily on the down side, but for your consideration know that this is REALLY heavy. This block is definitely intended to be left on the counter and seldom moved, so I wouldn't recommend this size if you don't have the countertop space to leave it out. Unrelated to this product, but a general suggestion - don't skimp on wood oil and/or wax. I've ruined a couple of $200 blocks in the past by failing to oil them. I bought the Caron & Doucet products also sold on Amazon and really like them as well.

thick and heavy, but does not have the design as shown
My husband is a big guy who does a lot of cooking, so the type of cutting board that matches him needs to be more like a chopping block. He really liked receiving this board as a gift. It is quite heavy but not so much that I cannot lift (I'm 5'4"), but I don't use it. Pros: -enough surface area to cut for a big person -heavy enough that it won't move while cutting -has a juice canal on one side so you can make that side for "meats" and flip it to the other side for "veggies". -after adding mineral oil, the color stands out and is not as dull as it was when it first arrived. -seems pretty durable and seems as though it will last a generation if take care of well. I saw a John Boos butcher block at a grocery store used for display purposes, and you could tell that it had never been oiled as there were many numerous cracks on the sides. Poor thing. Cons (that I noticed): -the pattern of the board we received is not like what was in the photo. It is not quite as artsy as shown. I went to go check out a proteak at williams-sonoma. The one we received is more like a pattern you would see on a regular cutting board, similar to what williams-sonoma carried. They carry only the circular ones, but the thickness was the same. -it may be heavy for smaller/petite people. -the board was shipped in a box with no stuffing whatsoever. Looking at the box, I can tell that it had been thrown around prior to it's arrival. I'm glad that it was not cracked. All in all--my husband enjoys using it so it's all good, which says a lot because he is very picky about items he owns. I know that all of the patterns are different for each board...but if I were to purchase another proteak in the future, I'd probably want to choose the one I want instead of having a random one shipped to me. Regarding mineral oils--the board soaks it in very nicely, but when you "dry" it after having soaked it in the mineral oil, wiping it down after 30 minutes soak on each side, I suggest you put some newspaper under it, with the board on it's side. Some of the excess oil will run down a bit.

Nice solid board
Well glued, delivered faster than advertised. I love the heft, look, and double sided use - both sides are very nice. 99% of the wood selection is perfect, unblemished - the only reason the craftsmanship got 4 of 5 is two small spots (like 1/4") where a void had been filled with a filler that absorbs the finishing oil a bit differently (1 is circled in red in the picture), and there was a tiny cube of I think aluminum embedded near one edge that left a mark on our countertop the first time I slid it along. It picked right out with a needle (second picture), and the mark scrubbed off without leaving a scratch. I will use this board for many years!
