Is there anything comparable that costs less?

YES!!! I USE DRY PINTO BEANS. YOU CAN PURCHASE THEM IN A LARGE BAG. THEY ARE GOOD FOR ONE MONTH, THEN JUST THROW THEM AWAY AND FILL WITH NEW FRESH BEANS. HUGE MONEY SAVER. YOU CAN BUY LARGE BAGS OF DRY PINTO BEANS AT COSTCO OR SAMS.

Should you ever completely replace pellets? Love the system but can’t find the answer to this in reviews, thanks!

I always replace the pellets. Once per month completely empty and clean litter box and replace with fresh pellets and pad.

How do you dispose of poo without using a bunch of poop bags?

I use the Cat Geenie system; it's amazing. The pee pads & the poop can all go into the bag. It's closed off so there isn't poop/pee pads sitting in an open garbage. Monthly when I change out the litter it all goes into this a well. Super simple!
