I purchased this after looking around for a "whistling" pressure cooker because the Indian recipes I found didn't have times built in and I didn't want to try and figure out how to cook Indian in a traditional pressure cooker. This came with a large book of recipes, which was an added bonus. I tested this cooker out with water and it definitely doesn't "whistle." I might have peed a little bit when it released pressure for the first time. I was expecting something like a tea kettle whistle for a few seconds...but instead, got the sound like I just pulled the release valve on an air compressor. So - be aware that the first time you try it out, it's not exactly a whistle. I am quite pleased with the construction of the cooker and the price. It seems like a good design that will bring me a lot of happiness in making Indian food!

Pros: It just works. Replacement parts are relatively easy to find Looks and feels quite durable Cons albeit very nitpicky: The large capacity pot is nice, but you need to be aware of the actual maximum level you can fill the pot as the lid goes into the pot in an unconventional way to store pressure. First time buyer should do a complete pressure test and descale the pot thoroughly as it will likely leave stain after the test. The lip of the pot makes if a bit harder to pour/completely empty the pot and due to its size, it can be very heavy for some.

What an inconvenient, backward design for a pressure cooker!!! Never mind that it came in a loosely packaged, damaged box, with scratches on the aluminum surface. To close the cooker, one has to position the lid at a "right" angle and slide it in , after practicing a few times as the user menu instructs. This might seal better. I will take that. But how is it NOT unsanitary and messy? There is no way one can keep the rim of the lid from somehow touching the food inside. Also, expect messy foam to overflow from the vent covering the entire cooker during the cooking process. It's a pain to clean up afterwards. We bought it at a deep discount and didn't want to bother returning it. But this is no doubt the worst thing we've ever ordered online.

Very poor quality Lid not user friendly Badly written instructions. Only service available is in India...........we live in NZ. You must pay for the returns yourself even though the product is substandard , and a poor reflection on the quality Amazon offers . I expected more
