Loose Setting Powder

I'll admit it - I've had my fair share of setting powder disasters. You know, the ones that leave you looking cakey, powdery, or just plain weird. When I tell you I've tried near EVERY product on the market.. I've LITERALLY tried near every product on the market for skin with my insane combo skin. I am oily in my T zone and chin. Dry on my cheeks and upper forehead and have Rosacea that is completely out of control. My skin even THINKS that I'm going to use certain products on it.. It just goes on ahead and breaks all the way out. 🤦‍♀️ And tbh, I'm so sick of everyone asking why am I "sunburned" .. I absolutely will NOT tolerate anything heavy on my skin. I do NOT care for that powdered face look.. I'm picky 🤷‍♀️ Anyway.. I've used Dermablend liquid to cover Psoriasis scars over my body many times. (I live in the Sunshine State. We're water/beach people.) I can dab a bit on the scars and hit the beach or throw on a dress and never have to worry about my scars.. its waterproof and covers like magic.. Works AMAZINGLY well! Gives me back my confidence. So I figured if the liquid is THAT good, I'd give this a shot for my face.. I'm so thankful I did. No more odd oily zones.. No drying of the already dry.. No powdered look.. And NO REDNESS!!! I haven't been asked about my "sunburn" since I've been using it.. And last but certainly not least.. My skin is CLEAR! No allergy bumps. No clogged pores. I'm in love and will be using this as long as they keep making it. Excellent product. And a HUGE thank you for giving me this freedom back. I truly appreciate this product.

For reference, I purchased the Dermablend standard white loose powder. I have combination skin - oily T-Zone but dry patches around my nose creases and laugh lines. I am a nurse so I am constantly moving around and working long shifts which leaves little to no time for touch ups. I had been using Bare Minerals Mineral Veil for the past 12 years or so in order to set my makeup and reduce shine. With the Mineral Veil, my T-Zone would start looking oily and shiny again after about 4-6 hours, and the dry parts of my face would look patchy and dry. I might as well have been using baby powder! Over the years, Bare Minerals has gotten less and less effective as they've changed their formulations for the worse to save money - BYE FELICIA. This Dermablend setting powder is FAR SUPERIOR to the Mineral Veil. It effectively reduces shine ALL DAY. It does NOT settle into creases or melt away. The Dermablend formulation seems finer and lighter weight which means it is undetectable and natural looking. It maintains a matte finish on my face for 12 hours or more. It is almost like putting on a translucent mask. I have gotten multiple compliments on my skin since I started using it. I don't strictly follow the application recommendations for Dermablend. They instruct you to put a lot on, wait a few minutes for it to sit/absorb, then brush off the excess. Instead, I just lightly and evenly coat the end of my Kabuki brush and buff it into my face the same way I would apply the Mineral Veil. Overall, I would 100% recommend this to family and friends. It is a game changer for me.

I started using this setting powder because I wanted something that would help my makeup stay in place without making my complexion look dry or overly powdered. A light application gives my foundation a smoother, more finished appearance and helps reduce unwanted shine throughout the day. The loose texture is very fine, so it blends into my makeup instead of sitting heavily on top of it. I usually press a small amount into the areas where my makeup tends to move or become shiny, especially around my forehead, nose, and under-eye area. What I appreciate most is that I can control how much coverage I want. A light dusting works well for everyday makeup, while applying a little more helps when I need my look to last through a longer day or special event. It sets my complexion without changing the overall color or making everything appear flat. The container provides a generous amount of product, and since I only need a little at a time, it should last quite a while. I recommend tapping off the excess before applying because the powder is loose and can become messy if too much is picked up at once. This has become a dependable final step in my makeup routine. It leaves my complexion looking smoother, helps control shine, and gives my makeup a more polished finish without feeling heavy.

I have used this setting powder with DermaBlend Cover Cream, as suggested, as well as the Estee Lauder foundation that I use everyday. Here are the pros and cons: Pros -Better price than higher end setting powders. I like being able to apply liberally and completely eliminating that sticky foundation feel. -Does give you the feeling that your make up is totally locked in place -Lasts extremely well...if I sleep in my makeup (gross, I know) it looks nearly exactly the same in the morning. -It comes in a large container relative to the price. Cons -Makes my face look really white -Difficult to get much color payout from any powders going on top of this (i.e. have to apply double the normal amount of bronzer) -I feel like it looks cakey, makes it very obvious that I'm WEARING MAKEUP, nothing looks natural about this (although it's worth it if coverage is most important to you) -Clogs pores. A lot of setting powders do, just given the nature of what a setting powder's purpose is, this wasn't unexpected but I do feel like it's worse than others I've tried. -Skin can definitely not breathe in this, but again, not really a factor if your goal is simply the best coverage possibly
