Is this wired only? How difficult is it to set up? I'm looking for a wired only router, with speeds up to 300mb, that isn't complicated to hook up.

For normal home / small office use (using NAT), _no setup at all_ is actually required on the non-wireless models from Mikrotik. Plug your Internet connection into port #1 and your devices into ports #2-5, and start browsing. Basic configurations beyond that (custom DHCP, firewall, logging, USB cellular connections, configuration backups) are fairly straightforward. Many users will likely need to browse the manual or a tutorial to update the software; all configuration can be done via a Windows app (WinBox), a web interface, or a CLI. They are currently testing a mobile configuration app for Android as of late 2017. Advanced configuration (custom routing and bridging, VPN, etc.) can have a fairly steep learning (but better than Cisco IOS), especially if you don't have prior networking knowledge. There's plenty of room to grow here as your needs evolve, and as long as it is not physically damaged this should still be operational after ten or even twenty years. The software is common across all of the company's routers, so as long as they remain in business you should get free updates, too -- more than can be said for almost any other manufacturer. Does this equipment can do content filtering?

Easiest is to use OpenDNS as DNS settings and do content filtering from there.

What's best speed we can out of our gigabit fios connection out of this router?

I've seen speeds over 900Mbps with this model, but with very few firewall rules. Not sure if the lower speed was due to the router itself or something with the connection / upstream. If you don't have fasttrack enabled (which it is by default last I knew), you can potentially have deplorable speeds. If you have a bunch of rules, you may need a model with a beefier CPU.

Are any VPN services built in? if so, is gateway2gateway with a cisco RV series router or Shrew Soft Mobile2Gateway client connections possible ?

Yes, there is a Quickset function in Winbox configuration tool that will setup a preliminary VPN template for you. You can then tweak it for your needs. The Mikrotik wiki and Reddit are best sources of information. I have hooked this to Cisco many times as well as VPN software tools. PPTP, L2TP, SSTP, IPSEC, OpenVPN, etc.

Excellent router - Not for faint hearted - Handle with care

Always wanted to have a proper router at home with periodic security patch updated. Picked this one during prime day sales. Coming to router it is a wild beast. There are tons of configuration options. Regarding RouterOS there is a bit of learning needed. To start with fire up "WinBox", use menu "Quick set" to enter your broadband USERID details. Mine was ACT so all i needed to enter was PPPOE, USERID, PASSWORD.At this stage your router is not hardened enough but then you could do that slowly as you explore more about RouterOS.By splitting router functionality my options are wide open for Wireless Access Points. This router supports load balancing, so you could combine 2 or 3 ISP connections.

Best SOHO router

I wanted to upgrade my home network to gigabit, and I already use a Netgear gigabit Wi-Fi router in access point mode, I wanted a non-Wi-Fi router to use as my main router, this looked perfect. Read lots of reviews & watched numerous videos and decided on getting this. It’s awesome and can be configured to do so many things. Hopefully if Mikrotik directly sells in India the prices will come down a bit to compete with other brands and we can se more adoption of these.

A versatile router( no wireless)

A versatile device if you have the patience and effort to setup. There is a simple wizard available to configure for a typical router usage and get connected to internet quickly. Documentation and get started setup instructions are available on the support site . Customisations possible are endless - segregation of different networks , load balancing , fail over, numerous possibilities of bandwidth management and prioritisation.

Good things come in small packages

This is an amazing product. Have been using it for a few weeks now in our office of ~60 people and ~100 devices. Use it load balance across two ISPs. There is a steep learning curve with the configuration but lots of help and videos are available online. Will buy a few more for our smaller offices also. Haven't managed to make the layer 7 firewall work effectively; blocking youtube also blocks google sheets etc. Probably haven't googled enough. However I don't need that feature and this is still value for money.

Awesome And Highly Configurable

Awesome product. Very configurable with many options. RouterOS has multiple control interface - web UI, telnet and SSH and supports scripting. Gbe ports is nice to have. Logging to microsd card. Very active user forum. Overall awesome product. Firmware updates are released regularly. Mikrotik brand is not popular in India yet I believe. So, not sure of the service support if required.
