The alpha lipoid acid in this product is now sourced from China. I just got off the phone with NOW foods as my bottle did not state where it was made. The nutrition department looked up the code (the number above the bar code) and verified it is indeed from China. In the past it stated "Made in the USA. I will not be buying this brand again.

is this the "R" form or the "S" form of ALA?

This is the racemic mixture, and contains 50% R (the biologically active) and 50% S (useless, but maybe not harmful). If it were enantiomerically pure R form, you can bet they'd advertise that on the label. The racemic mixture is cheap to make. 250mg racemic mixture = 125mg biologically active R form. These days, several companies are selling pure R alpha lipoic acid, aka RALA, but it is more than twice as expensive as an equal (biologically active) amount of the racemic mixture.

I bought it as a complement in my diabetic II treatement. Glucofage pills destroy my stomach so I'm trying to substitute one take of the two per day I was medicated with this product. So far so good.
