Harry Potter: The Creature Vault: The Creatures and Plants of the Harry Potter Films [Revenson, Jody] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Harry Potter: The Creature Vault: The Creatures and Plants of the Harry Potter Films Review: A Very 'Tight' Vault - The 'Harry Potter: The Creature Vault'; 'The Creatures and Plants of the Harry Potter Films' by Insight Editions and published by Harper Design clocks in at 208 pages. This purple, slightly embossed book (no ribbon) is a wonderful addition to your 'Harry Potter Page to Screen: The Complete Filmmaking Journey Collector's Edition' collection and is quite reminiscent to the look and feel of 'A Guide to the Graphic Arts Department' (minus the orange). This thoroughly expanded book contains a new introduction, fully fledged descriptions, two to four times the amount of pictures per creature/plant, and what makes this special is that a majority of the pictures are new to this volume ... so minus the concept and organization, it is entirely new. As a bonus, the book comes with a small Eeylops Owl Emporium pamphlet and a pull-out Bestiary Poster of 16 creatures. Intro (pg9) Chapter I Forest Dwellers (pg13) Chapter II Lake Dwellers (pg45) Chapter III Sky Dwellers (pg59) Chapter IV Trespassers (pg87) Chapter V Shape-Shifters (pg101) Chapter VI The Working World (pg119) Chapter VII Dark Forces (pg141) Chapter VIII Companions (pg163) Chapter IX The Greenhouse (pg189) In comparison, 'The Creature Shop Compendium'; 'Flora and Fauna from the Harry Potter Films' by Insight Editions and published by desertcart Publishing found in the 'Harry Potter Page to Screen: The Complete Filmmaking Journey Collector's Edition' clocks in at only 128 pages. The green embossed, faux-leather book (with ribbon) has beautiful bounding, and although the page count, descriptions and images are far less for this edition, it does come with completely different pictures. Intro (Moira Squir) (pg7) Part I - Creatures of Air (pg13) Part II - Creatures of Water (pg39) Part III - Creatures of Earth (pg53) Part IV - Creatures of Fire (pg91) Part V - Plant Life (pg117) An adorable picture of Ginny Weasley's pigmy puff can be found on the last page (128), but Arnold gets his own page (177) with a much larger image for the new edition. Just a wonderful book and I cannot wait for the next two releases. COMMENT/NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR: "Not just a rerelease! These books are actually an all-new, incredibly comprehensive approach to their subject matter. In addition to the wonderful, magical creatures that we got to know and love, for the first time anywhere, The Creature Vault will include behind-the scenes information on all the real-life creatures -- Scabbers, Hedwig, Fang, et al. The Book of Magical Places will be in a much larger size to showcase the incredible artwork, includes 4 Privet Drive, and offers information about on-location shooting as well as studio environments. I mined the Muggle world for new interviews and never-before-revealed information, and drove my editor crazy with the megasized manuscripts I delivered. And the next one up after these two is The Character Vault. I read the comments here and really try to deliver what you want -- because it's what I want, too! Finally more HP books with great concept art and behind the scenes info.
This is just an utterly fantastic book. If you have any reservations at all about getting this book dont wait, just order the book. The illustrations are bright, colorfull, and totally impressive. If you have Page to Screen this is done in the same basic layout. There are not very many excellent books on the behind the scenes of the Harry Potter films, but this IS one of them. I love books that show concept art and this book has that in abundance. Artists represented include Williamson, Brockbank, Power, Bliss, Catling, and many others. Very talented one and all. There are a few drawings that might freek out some poeple so be aware. It also has photos of work in progress involving the various creatures. The cover looks like tooled leather with outlines of various creatures. I can't wait for Ms Revenson to release the other books she has planned in this HP series. This book is worth every penny you pay for it. Absolutely wonderful.

Harry Potter: The Creature Vault
We bought The Creature Vault, the Character Vault, and Magical Places for our son for Christmas. These 3 volumes are wonderful books for a Harry Potter fan. They are probably easiest considered as encyclopedias or reference manuals to support the Harry Potter novels. They are full of gorgeous photos and details that are so much fun to look at and read. These books are very well made and would be enjoyed by any Harry Potter fun or collector. These are books to keep and look at over and over again.

The Book To Have for Harry Potter Movie Creatures!
Review of Harry Potter: The Creature Vault: The Creatures and Plants of the Harry Potter Films. I recently recieved my copy just today, and my excitement reached a peak as I tore into the book, and I took my time reading the Creature Vault. When I read the book, I was surprised to see that the book contained behind the scenes looks on how some of the creatures were brought to the silver screen to my amazement. It has several drawings that shows the process of how the creatures we know today became what we know them as. There are even a few creatures that didn't make it into the films that were given their own little pages. If you are expecting this to be like 'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them' then I'm sorry but this book has only a few handfuls of creatures of what 'Fantastic Beasts' offer, but it is still a great book for those who wish to expand their 'Harry Potter' library. It's a great gift to get for that little Wizard or Witch in your life.

The Creature Vault is yet another amazing addition to the Harry Potter movie library. It might actually be my favourite of all the books detailing this ten-year movie-making process, because it focuses solely on the creatures and beasts featured in all eight films. It includes many film stills, production art and images of maquettes, as well as pages of text explaining how the creatures were designed for the big screen. It's a fascinating read and one that I'll be going back to again and again. My personal favourite part of the Harry Potter movies has always been the array of fantastical creatures created by J.K. Rowling. In fact, the Creature Shop is the best part of the London Studio Tour, and I love looking around it every time I go - I not-so-secretly wish all these creatures were real! Obviously this insight into the creatures of the films has been touched on in other books, namely Harry Potter: Page to Screen, but so far there hasn't been anything as in-depth as this. The cover alone is worth a purchase; it's a lovely deep purple with devised creature silhouettes all around it, an intricate design that I'd only expect from a volume of this calibre. The book itself is split into mine sections such as Lake Dwellers, Shape-shifters, The Working World and Trespassers. These sections cover every Harry Potter beast and creature you can think of, including dragons, dementors, thestrals, owls, boggarts, gnomes and grindylows. Each section is full of images and artwork, so much in fact that several hours will easily pass before you've properly seen everything. Every image, whether it be a photo or a page of concept art, is presented in glorious high-resolution and doesn't lose a single pixel. It's also really easy to navigate, divided into sections and sub-sections that make this coffee table book very easy to dip in and out of. There are certain parts of The Creature Vault that I particularly enjoyed, especially the part about Dobby the House Elf. It's interesting to see how he came to look like the Dobby we all know and love, as facially he could have turned out very differently. The book says he went through many different designs before reaching the final version, and he was also the first fully computer-generated major character seen in the franchise. It's little facts like this that I love to read and keep in my head forever, and this book is full of them! I honestly don't think any written review will do this book justice; it needs to be seen to be believed, much like the creatures littered throughout its pages. To a Harry Potter fan it's a veritable treasure trove of information and visual delights, made even better by the behind the scenes insight that accompanies every image. For the casual film fan it's a journey through ten years of design and production on one of history's greatest cinema achievements, and is deserving of a place in any movie library. For me The Creature Vault is a great reminder of J.K. Rowling's unparalleled imagination, the excitement of watching eight incredible films and my annual visits to the Harry Potter Studio Tour. I think it's the best non-fiction title of 2014 and it is, without a doubt, the most perfect book for Harry Potter fans.
