No, it only works on the plastic track.

Why is Gordon $12 while all the rest are $10?

It's probably due to it's rarity, but I have noticed alot of the prices on some of these toys do go up or down.

Does this run on the floor without tracks?

Yes, it will run on the floor, although only in a straight line unless you manually turn it. It does best on hard surfaces like wood, tile or linoleum, although it can run, albeit more slowly, on low pile carpet. Obviously, it's meant to be run on the track but my child gets a kick out of them "escaping" across the floor from time to time.

Absolute blast!

I got this for my nephew, who is three. He absolutely loves it and it's now his favorite train in the world. He wore that battery life down, but it took at least a week before he did. And he was using it daily. It's so much fun for him and it really helped him with his practicing crouching and running and having fun at life. Definitely recommend it and it is very much worth the price.
