Excellent flashlight and value
I have a number of more expensive flashlights (Surefire, etc.) that are great for what I use them for (hiking, EDC, etc.), so I know a bit about flashlights. Here's what I like about the Energizer Hard Case Task Light: 1. Good power (2 settings - low and high) 2. Bright white beam color 3. Wider-angle beam, relative to some other types of lights 4. Runs on 2 AA batteries, cheap and easy availability 5. Side switch is very easy to activate 6. Flat bottom allows it to stand up 7. Seems durable 8. Excellent value For general use around the home and car I find this flashlight to be much better and more useful than the higher-power, tactical-style lights. It throws a much wider beam that's useful within 20 feet or so in a dark room. The switch is much easier to activate than typical tail-cap switches. Some reviewers said the battery life is poor. I typically use it for a minute or two at a time, perhaps a couple of times a day, so I can't offer any useful feedback on battery life. It did seem that the batteries that came with it didn't last too long - don't know if they were just old batteries that had been on the shelf for awhile or if the flashlight does drain batteries fairly quickly. I popped in a pair of Eneloop AA rechargeable batteries. They fit and worked fine. Some rechargeables are slightly larger than standard AA batteries and fit can be an issue, but the Eneloops fit just like regular AA batteries. One issue I encountered seemed like a problem but wasn't. I was having problems turning the flashlight on, and it was only providing one power setting, not two. I thought it may have been faulty, but it was just low batteries. Popped in another set of batteries and it was fine. If you're looking for a high-output tactical light, this isn't it. But it's a great flashlight for home and car use. Assuming the flashlight holds up over time, it's a steal at the price it sells for.

Super bright light for the home!
Was shocked at the value of this light, very bright and crisp ligh produced. We constantly have power outages in the summer and needed something to safely navigate the house when the lights are out. This light was perfect. No it's not a heavy duty everyday carry or work light but for the average homeowner, it's perfect! It's small enough to tuck into a shelf for emergencies. It has great rubber coating that makes it feel durable and long lasting and the lens is very thick and shockingly bright light that you can dim. For general use, this is a great value!

My go-to toolbox and ladder light
I own several dozen other LED flashlights, but virtually all of them are only rated for a 1 or 1.5 meter drop. The Energizer HC-300 LED Flashlight is rated to survive a drop of 7 meters (about 23 feet), so this is now the light that I carry in my toolbox and use when I am up on a ladder. The HC-300 is an excellent task light. Not sure what the LED is (maybe a Luxeon V?), but the tint is a nice neutral white at about 4800K that doesn't wash out colors like the very cold white purplish tint that you typically see from cheap LEDs. The total internal reflection (TIR) lens forms a beam with a large diffused hot spot, about 45 degrees of bright spill, and then about 100 degrees of dimmer spill, so you have extra light in the center of the beam but enough spill to see surroundings. Nominal output is 300 lumens in High and 45 lumens in Low, with no silly/useless "blinky" modes. Low mode is plenty of light for close-up tasks, so that is the mode I usually use. To avoid leaking alkaline batteries that would ruin the flashlight, I keep primary lithium batteries (Energizer e2) in mine. The rugged case makes the EC-300 larger than most other 2 x AA flashlights, and if you are sensitive to pulse width modulation (PWM), the EC-300 has visible PWM in Low mode. In three months of infrequent use, I have not experienced any of the flickering or tailcap-loosening problems reported by some other reviewers. Although I choose other flashlights for everyday carry (EDC) or when I need either brighter light or a dim moonlight mode, the HC-300 is my preferred flashlight for knocking around in my toolbox or for using when I am up on a ladder, because it will survive if I drop it.

Great, but battery "popping" from use.
Hard to rate because of the issue my photo represents. I've had 2 pair (4 batteries) of Duracell duralock AA "pop" while in use on the high beam setting. The batteries were new and after looking at other batteries, even the regular Duracell I'm curious as to whether it's likely that it only happens with that particular battery. Both times it was the first battery inserted and it was the negative end of the battery that blew both times. I do notice the batteries extend further than others I compared them to on the negative side and the seal seemed almost sub par compared to regular Duracell. I love the light, its sturdy, compact and the beam is awesome for work. Its unfortunate that its having this issue, I'm going to reach out to Energizer and go from there, an updated review will be posted upon some sort of resolution. Probably should try Energizer batteries, that'll really put this case to rest, lol! Update! So I haven't had any more batteries blow after deciding to stop using Duracell and go with rechargeable batteries from Energizer and Amazon basics, works beautifully and never misses a beat.

This had such great reviews and only requires 2 AA batteries. Very happy with it. I will buy another one for our 72 hour kits. Very sturdy and a very bright light. ETA: since my review the seller has increased the price by $15. I'm not going to buy another now.

I replaced an older version of the same brand of flashlight with this and it works exactly as hoped. Here's the deal: An "inspection" flashlight is the tool of a tradesman and as such, it needs to be thoughtfully designed. It has to be impact resistant, it has to be somewhat water proof (accidents happen), it needs to have a strong white light beam (not blue-ish, but WHITE) and most importantly it has to be either square or rectangular in profile so it wont ROLL AWAY FROM YOU IF YOU SET IT DOWN. The number of "professional grade" flashlights that get that last point wrong is amazing - it's like the manufacturers have never actually used a flashlight. My last Energizer inspection light lasted the better part of a decade. I see no reason why this wont last as long.
