This is perfect for my 3 year old
This is perfect for my 3 year old. She was a little behind compared to her classmates in drawing her letters and shapes. This is exactly what she needed to give her more practice. I love that it shows you how to draw/trace capital and lowercase letters, shapes and numbers. Also has fun games kids can play that uses drawing. They only downside is the screen is a dark gray with darker gray writing, it can be hard to see for me although my daughter has never complained. I just wish there was a lighter background or a light illuminated the background.

Gift for grandson
I bought this for my 4 year old grandson who just started preschool several months ago. I thought maybe I made a mistake and should have bought a leapfrog but he won't put this down. He carries this everywhere. And even visited several days after Christmas and brought the vtech toy back to my house to ay with it. I love that he is learning so much and having so much in the process. I am glad I chose this one.So many things to learn and keep their interest.

Engaging and educational! (but ...)
I was somewhat doubtful that this learning toy would keep my 3 year-old daughter engaged for more than a few minutes before she lost interest and went off looking for the bright color graphics of the iPad or TV. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much she loves this toy! We've had it for about a month now, and she still finds it as engaging now as on the first day she got it. Practically every day, she asks for her "write and draw game." I've definitely noticed an improvement in her fine-motor and writing skills as a result of playing with the Write & Learn Tablet. She can now control a pen/crayon/marker well enough to write the letters of her name (in somewhat legible penmanship!), and she can now draw a few basic shapes. I was debating the choice between the Leap Frog Writing Tablet and this VTech Write & Learn, and I'm so glad I went with this one! It turned out to be quite a gem for such a simple and relatively inexpensive toy. UPDATE: About a week after I wrote this review, my daughter started getting bored of this toy. Now, she no longer requests to play with it, and quickly puts it aside when it's offered to her. I expect that's pretty typical given the average preschooler's short attention span, especially when there are so many other diversions available. Plus, the pixels toward the edges of the screen began to malfunction. Probably not a huge deal, unless your child enjoys drawing borders, like mine does. But this toy is still a very good educational tool, albeit for the short term, so I only downgraded it slightly from an A to a B+ rating. Grade: B+

Great toy if it worked for more than a few months
Doesn't last very long. We absolutely love this toy, my 3 year old can write all of his letters and numbers and most of the credit goes to this toy. Unfortunately, we've had 3 of them and they all just stopped turning on after a few months. We put in fresh batteries but it just stops working. There's no damage to the toy, so it didn't get broken, just won't work. Also the pen keeps coming off of the string and is a choking hazard for our youngest. If v tech could upgrade and fix these issues, I would love to buy it again for my youngest. It's very entertaining and encourages learning.

he seems to like this toy
My son is 3 . He has no attention span and likes things that involve running, jumping, etc. It is difficult to get him to do anything that involves little physical movement. However, he seems to like this toy. We have had it about a week and this is my take on it. Pros: * It has both capital and lower case letters * The writing surface is easy to use and accurate * It tell my son he has done a great job when he actually traces the letter correctly. If he does a poor job on the letter and hits the check to say his is done, it asks him to retry tracing the letter. * It seems durable and has already taken a tumble out of the van door into a puddle. It is working fine. * It has a shape tracing and free draw activity. There is also a hiding letter game which is good. * you can turn down the volume.

Excellent toy and educational tool for little ones to learn to identify and write their letters/numbers.
This is our 2nd one of these. The first model/version only had letters. He used it mostly to learn his ABCs and upper and lover case letters. Now, he is learning to write -- and uses it to trace letters. This new model/version has the numbers too. It has helped our son learn to write his letters and numbers as he progresses through Preschool + PreK. So glad VTech added the numbers to this device.

Durable little toy.
I have a rambunctious 2yr old that knows his abc's and can distinguish between the different letters, so we figured it was time to learn to write them. After near daily use since the arrival of this, the screen has held up awesomely, no scratches or marks from being pressed too hard, which was one of my main concerns. The 'pen' did fall apart after a couple days (he is a beast of a boy so I kind of expected that) but nothing a little hot glue couldn't fix. He loves all the different 'games' and especially the music! Overall great buy and would definitely purchase again.
