High Quality, Lightweight
Overview: My intended use is as a craft/sewing iron. Accordingly, I value these qualities in this iron and I recommend it--but please read my comments (similar to other considerate reviewers): (1) no steam; (2) smooth soleplate; (3) small and well balanced form; (I don't see that toppling is a concern for me) (4) no auto shut off; (5) range of temperatures (it gets plenty hot) (6) light weight (1.77 lb) For my intended purpose of having a lightweight iron to use frequently in my quilting, this iron is perfect (compact/lightweight). It gets plenty hot though it is only 700W. I tested it on fusibles, and they adhered perfectly as intended. I had considered getting the Rowenta (I have the steam generating and a regular one (that hisses and spits) --but after reading the reviews on their travel iron (collapsing handle), I got this iron. It will feel quite comfortable in most woman-sized hands. The fit and finish on the iron is superb; it is perfectly balanced and engineered to include cord reinforcement at the base. As others have noted, it is Japanese 100V/700W appliance (and all info in package and markings on dial are in Japanese. But the heat goes from low to high as with most irons, so you can easily test the heat. The heat dial is larger than most irons. It cannot be accidentally hit and moved when grasping handle. It seems to have a wide range heating settings that most will enjoy. Regarding the voltage: My husband, the electrician, tells me that I shouldn't worry using it with a 120V outlet. As it does not have an auto shut off (a feature I required for my quilting use), consider plugging the iron into electrical power extension (with on/off) that also powers a light so that you always have a visual cue that your iron may be on. I did not notice any heating of the cord. ** Of note: the sole plate is a non stick finish does not feel quite as smooth a stainless, teflon or aluminum. It works fine for my intended purpose. However, if you are looking for a silky glide, you might be disappointed. It is not a problem for me.

Great for quilting.
I have had this iron for almost exactly two years. I use it for quilting and I love it. It has a beautiful flat plate and heats up very quickly. I have lost several irons to gravity, so I keep it flat on a silicone mat instead of upright to prevent it from falling. So far, so good. It has no annoying auto shut off, which I do not consider a fire hazard as, when I use it, it is plugged into a surge suppressor into which my low-wattage LED lights are also plugged, and I turn off the lights when I am done sewing. So if I am using it, the iron is (almost) never left on and unattended. If I want steam, I have spray bottles. Simple, elegant iron.

Light weight, warms faster than you’d think, and the surface is silky smooth.
Love this iron!

Best iron I have ever used!
I have used this iron for piecing quilt patterns for a couple of years. I just purchased this second one to have on hand, should my current iron were ever to stop working. However, it's still going strong. I love the weight, the size, the fantastic heat it puts out. If I need steam, I simply spray my fabric with water or pressing solution, rather than mess with a steam iron that has the likely potential of leaking or spewing a mess onto my fabric. Very, very pleased with this non-stick dry iron.

It WAS a good iron
I’ve had this iron for 2 years. I loved it, until today. The coating is coming off. I use this iron for quilting. I’m not sure what happened. Today when ironing I noticed a silvery grey residue on the fabric, and then looked at the sole plate. While it lasted it has been my favorite iron. It still heats well.

The best iron I've ever owned!
I LOVE this iron! I wanted a dry iron with a flat sole plate for quilting cotton. Steam irons ALWAYS leak given enough time (about 9 months for me). This is true for all the irons I've had, both expensive and not. I switched to using these irons without water, misting the fabric instead. However, gunk builds up in the steam holes even if you don't use water in the iron (misting the fabric creates steam when the iron passes over the fabric) and the gunk is eventually deposited on (usually light colored) fabric. This iron has a completely flat plate and I no longer have to worry about my iron spitting stuff. Heads up: the instructions and markings on the iron are all in Japanese except for the word "Panasonic". This isn't a problem for me because it's pretty obvious what's low, medium, and high but if you want your iron markings in English, this won't do it for you. The iron gets plenty hot! I saw a review that said it doesn't get hot enough. I'm not sure what they were trying to iron, but mine is more than hot enough for quilting cotton. I sometimes turn it down if it's too hot for spray starch. I don't know how it works ironing delicate fabrics at lower temps because I don't. The sole plate is non-stick and very easy to clean. I clean it once in a while when starch builds up (I use regular iron cleaning paste I got from Amazon). I accidentally knocked it onto a platic bag which melted on the plate but the plastic came right off. I suppose you might have to worry about scratching it if ironing around pins, buttons, zippers, etc., but I don't know because I've only used it on plain fabric. It is lightweight which is a plus and a minus. A minus because it's easy to knock over (see above about the plastic bag). Also, I may need to apply pressue when pressing a thick seam. It's a plus because it's not heavy which is great for arthritic hands and wrists. Caution: there is no auto-off in any position. This is a plus and a minus. Plus because the iron is always hot. Minus because safety. I stay very aware of it and so far I haven't left it on or scorched any fabric. If it falls, say on a plastic bag, it won't switch off. If you're super forgetful and rely on an iron to switch off, this isn't the iron for you. In summary, this is the best iron I've ever owned and I wouldn't hesitate to get another (especially because the price is reasonable).

I got this to use for quilting. So far, I have been pleased with using it. It heats up quickly and doesn't shut off until you shut it off or pull the plug. Good for quilting. Presses seams very nicely without steam so they don't get misshapen. Sound-wise, it "tinks" a lot, but I guess that is metal expanding inside the iron? Everything is in Japanese so unless you can read Japanese, no instructions, even on the iron. I just set it at a medium setting on the dial and it seems to be hot enough. I assume if you turn the dial more, it will get hotter... Also, it is very light weight. So far, I'd say it works well.
