Thicker than big box store ties
These are much like the ties you might get in a big box store, except they are thicker. I assume this means they will withstand wind forces better, but I really hope I never have to test that theory. My garage had only one tie per four rafters, but the ceiling joists and rafters were exposed. I took this as a golden opportunity to reinforce the structure. I used the wrong screws, as these have specific screws rated for the sheer forces such ties will be subjected to. I instead used standard 1.25 inch construction screws, because I had them on hand. I reckon that adding 3X the number of ties even with the wrong fasteners will increase the protection for my roof structure.Other than my less-than-ideal installation method, I think these ties are a great value for the money. If my garage roof blows off or is similarly damaged anyway, I'll update this review. I really, really hope I don't eventually update this review.
