They aren't flat but they aren't very prominent. I also believe that a person with calluses will not feel them. I personally feel them a little on my toes, which doesn't bother me, but not on the soles or heels of my feet. So whatever opinion you read remember that it's subjective and depends on the level of sensitivity as well as condition of the person's feet.
