Dremel 199 Rotary Tool Accessory Carving Bit- Perfect for Wood, Plastic, and Soft Metals

This is almost a no brainer, but just in case...Dremel makes a number of sizes and shapes and so do other makers. The Dremel products are the ones to get as their shapes are exact, the cutting edges are precise and the steel is top quality and tempered to last a long time when used properly. These are made for the careful removal of stock from soft materials like wood and plastic...with the speed set fairly low to avoid burning or annealing the steel of the bit. Hard woods like Ebony, Rosewood etc. might be too hard. Keep a small stiff brass brush close by for clean up if you're working on plastic as they will often melt to the burr. They're not cheap, but they do last a really long time. I've even sharpened mine with a very fine needle file.

I use this bur as a spot-facer on printed circuit board. I use double-side printed circuit board on electronic projects, and I use this burr to create round spaces of no copper, (spot faces), on the component side where the lead holes are located. This allows the component side of the board to remain a ground plain, or shield, while allowing the leads to pass through the holes, and insulating them from that sides foil. This works great for it, since it is end cutting, and can be used in a small Dremel type plunge router setup to perform the job quickly.

Great engraving tool. Not for sanding though. Fits well in the dremel flex shaft. With lots of practice it gets easy to use. But lasts a long time

I had been having a several "issues" while doing some modification to a polymer gun stock. Invariably the Dremel bits I had would cut strange angles (cut off wheels), or I simply couldn't get the finish I was after. (I bought the Black and Decker "Dremel" tool and I love it. Bits work in either model). Enter this little guy. Hand's down the best bit I ordered for the project. Made life better and my blood pressure go down. Maybe I exaggerated about the life getting better, but I definitely didn't curse as much.

I recently built a shelf using about 70 pocket holes and 70 pocket plugs. This time around the wood was Red Oak and so were the plugs. I did not cut the Red Oak plugs down ahead of time which would have made them more flush, but instead I cut the Dremel cutting guide in the "Dremel 565 Multi-Purpose Cut Kit" so I could approach the plugs and used the 194 bit raised to about 1/32 of an inch from the surface. As long as the cutting guide was held flush to the wood it made mince meat out of the plug. To avoid creating a lot of smoke the bit is designed to cut in one direction (although if you force it you can cut in the other direction and create a lot of smoke in the process). Once I ground (routed) one plug down, I was able to use the multi-tool sander to flush sand the remaining amount and then wood filler as needed. I tried using a flush trim saw, but it was a lot work and if you don't watch it the saw can actually cut into the adjacent wood. This router/grinder worked much better and was consistent so long as you kept the cutting guide flush to the surface. For routing on narrow wood I clamped more wood to both sides and made if flush with piece of wood with the pocket plug. This router bit in this application saved me lots of time. Now that I modified my drywall cutting guide, it was time to replace it with a new one i.e. this purchase.

I used this to widen the scratches on my boat for repair. Worked like a charm!

Used this after a 106 bit for larger lines in carving in maple and hard plastic. Perfect for carving wood and plastic. Sharp and remained sharp. Great to have in a Dremel tool box!
