These Cambro containers are ideal for sourdough bread making. The straight sides make it easy to see dough rise and judge bulk fermentation accurately, which is much harder in rounded bowls. Being able to watch the dough climb the container helps with timing and consistency from bake to bake. The clear plastic is a big plus. You can see bubbles forming along the sides and bottom, track volume increase, and spot when the dough is properly aerated without disturbing it. The measurement markings are also useful for tracking percentage rise or keeping dough sizes consistent. They’re lightweight but sturdy enough to handle stretch-and-folds right in the container, and the wide opening makes it easy to mix, coil fold, and transfer dough without sticking your hands into something cramped. The smooth sides also release dough more cleanly when it’s time to turn it out. The lids fit well for covering during bulk fermentation or cold proofing, and the containers stack nicely in the fridge if you’re retarding dough overnight. They also clean up easily, even after sticky, high-hydration dough. Only minor downside: lids are often sold separately, and depending on size, they can take up some fridge space. But for sourdough baking, the visibility, shape, and durability make these incredibly useful. Overall, these are excellent for tracking fermentation, improving consistency, and simplifying the sourdough process. Once you switch to these for bulk fermentation, it’s hard to go back.
