I was used to Twizzlers brand black licorice ropes. The first time I tried this brand, RedVines black licorice, I did not enjoy it. It is very light, hollow, and has a sweeter after taste than what I was used to. I kept eating them (in shock repulsion) and surprisingly after several tries I grew to love them.Consider that these are made with corn syrup sweetened wheat flour and anise plus licorice flavoring extracts. The first bite is when you notice the texture most. Keep in mind that the licorice flavor tends to hit a little later. If you are used to the alternatives brands, this is where you will notice how very different they are. These are not near as chewy, are hollow and much lighter. They are also not as dense.After chewing for a moment, you will begin to taste the licorice and anise. It lacks the salty undertone that tampers the sweetness that you might notice in the other brand. It has a more sweet forward flavor. The anise is noticeable and that combined with the licorice leaves a very sweet and powerful aftertaste in the mouth. This may take some getting used to.Once I indulged in this candy several times I grew to like it and now enjoy it way more than Twizzlers brand. This brand will sometimes shred in the middle, but the candy is still very good if you enjoy black licorice and anise flavors.I can understand why someone would not like these but honestly after giving it some time I grew to love them and now they are one of my favorite snacks.I did notice that these were just slightly drier than the individual 4.5 ounce packages I buy in the store due to those being wrapped in smaller quantities and experiencing less exposure to air. Per pound, this product is only a few cents less expensive when including tax than in the local dollar store - 17 cents per pound to be exact. So they are a good bargain for now at this price but if you don't plan to consume them quickly then freshness might become an issue as they may continue to dry out. it might be a good idea to move small quantities to individual plastic bags to maintain freshness as these might dry out when they are exposed to more and more air as the container gradually becomes empty.Other than that, I do get why some people criticize this brand when they are used to a different brand of black licorice ropes. I hated these at first but I say try them a few times and see if they grow on you as they did me. I will definitely be buying these again.

got this at a great price! yes there was a lot of broken pieces that is why it was cheap, but the quality was there and if you don't care about not getting perfect pieces, and taste is more important then this I would buy again. flavor and softness was there.

Very very good can't eat just one could eat the whole container at once, and it is a very big container. Very good strawberry flavor, very nostalgic. Very fresh isn't sticky, easy to chew even with dentures.

I love Red Vines black licorice twists, but I always seem to find only stale boxes in the stores. The licorice is hard and not bendable. I only love soft, pliable licorice, so I am most often disappointed in what I have bought.This jar of black licorice vines arrived today, and it is the absolutely BEST licorice from this brand that I have ever had. I don't know who this supplier is, but this is the freshest, soft and most perfect licorice I have ever eaten from this brand.I am thrilled with the quality and quantity of this product. The size of the 3.5 jar is huge, and is a great value compared to buying smaller, individual boxes. It will take me a while to get through it all, but I'm sure it will go faster because it is so incredibly good.I will definitely be buying from this seller again! These are actually pretty tasty. I used to dislike these as compared to twizzlers, but these are a totally different thing!

My husband loves these for their flavor and they are always a great gift or snack. They stay fresh in the container and are easy to store in the pantry with the removable lid.Large amount and easily shared. Very chewy and consistent product. Not sugar free.
