The way first love is supposed to be
This is an absolutely delightful love story based upon the novel "E=mc2 Mon Amour." It describes two awkward but brilliant teens who discover one another.

A sweet film about young love and adventure in 1980s Paris
I saw this film as a kid and fell in love with its story and beauty of Paris. It’s a classic Romeo and Juliet kind of tale told through the lens of class differences, a common theme in film in the 1980s. But the beauty of Paris explored through the eyes of these two young innocents always reminds me of the special place first love can hold in our hearts.

A Little Romance Lasts a Long Time!
The movie, A LITTLE ROMANCE, has always been a favorite of mine and, probably many others still living, smile at the very thought of the film. Yet, I cannot believe how many people have not seen this film!!! Go find it - buy it - never give it away. This story of first love brings laughter, tears and sweet memories of young love and works for everyone, young and old alike. We have all been there. Romance in France and Venice always enhances any film! Two bright teens, an American girl and a French boy simply fall in love, run off, before the girl's parents take her home to America, to kiss under the Bridge of Sighs in Venice. It all works!Featuring Diane Lane in her screen debut at age 13, Lord Laurence Olivier and a brilliant Thelonious Bernard, as well as a perfectly chosen cast, makes for a perfect film! Every scene is believable! This is just a great movie. A GREAT MOVIE! We have all been young and in love. I am a 78 year old widow but I still love this film, still remember my first love at 13 - and I smile.I have purchased the movie in VCR and then DVD but always seem to give it away. Someone picks it up at our home, says he or she has not seen it - I say they need to 'own' it. "Goodbye, A Little Romance!" Out the door it goes. Although I am constantly replacing the DVD, Amazon comes through with another.Have had dreams of a sequel and keep telling people that the stars are mostly still alive - except Laurence Olivier - but they could take Diane Lane back to Venice, have her meet the boy, Thelonious Bernard, who is now a dentist in Nantes. Have them never to have married (?) or not, but have them single and going back to the Bridge of Sighs - one more time. It is just such a great possibility. Someone do it! Flash backs? Wonderful movie. But, for now? I am looking to buy an old second hand CD of the music and have just found one on Amazon. Surely others feel the same way. I am grateful anyone will sell his old copy. I heard the Vivaldi music yesterday on a Catholic station as background music for a program. Made me lonely for A Little Romance, for sure . . . even at 78, widows are never too old for A Little Romance!

Love and Youth in Paris.
I sometimes agree with the adage that youth is wasted on the young only this film has to be the exception. What can be more romantic even today some 18 years later than to be young and in love in Paris. This story proves it.It is also a measure of the man that Olivier agreed to play such a physically exacting role towards the end of his career. He even appears to be enjoying the experience. But then with two young talented co-stars,a young Diane Lane and french newcomer Thelonius Bernard(who was never heard of again!)it wasnt too difficult. This tale of two star-crossed teenagers with mega intelligence quotients running of to Venice to fulfill an historical love pact by Robert and Elizabeth Barret-Browning has dated very well and is sure to appeal to the romantics in all of us.Sir Laurence Oliviers effortless part as the mischievous con artist/pickpocket who befriends and aids them on their way adds a touch of class and irrepressible humour. There is an uproarious scene in a hotel when the almost apopleptic Olivier discovers in a newspaper that he has been lied to by his two travel companions.I also liked that the sex was minimalized, taking into account the relative ages of the main co-stars,was relegated to a closed mouth kiss under the Bridge of Sighs into which both actors had to be firmly encouraged by the director. The classical pieces by Vivaldi and the french and italian scenery also added to the atmosphere. There is also the talented supporting cast of Arthur Hiller as the kindly stepfather and Sally Kellerman as Lane's pushy snobbish mother, bereft at the thought of moving to Houston!.Please also look out for a charming cameo by the late Broderick Crawford and a young David Dukes.Director Hill does an excellent job here directing against type and even gives us brief tongue in cheek glimpses of his previous successful films, from 'the Sting, True Grit,Butch Cassidy and others placed strategically throughout the film, albeit in french and italian.I recommend this adolescent love story to one and all, sure to leave you with a lump in your throat and a tear in your eye.

A classic -- great characters
There's a reason Diane Lane is a star with an incredible career and still going strong. It all started with this charming Euro movie directed by the great George Roy Hill.

A very sweet movie
This was a very sweet movie I really enjoyed it. If I hadn't known Laurence Olivier was long gone. I could have been filmed last year.
