How Do You Soften This?

All dried beans including dried black beans can be softened and cooked in various ways. .... The easiest/quickest is by pressure cooking them. Or they can be cooked in the oven or on the stovetop in only 20-30 min longer than if soaked (often starting with boiling water). Or they can be pre-soaked and then cooked afterwards (quick-soaked by boiling for 1-2 min then letting sit for an hour; or regular soaked by soaking in water at least 4-6 hours).... I pressure cook my black and other beans/lentils all the time from dried (in an Instant Pot for me). https://www.latimes.com/food/dailydish/la-dd-dont-soak-dried-beans-20140911-story.html

Description

BIG, MEATY FLAVOR: Black beans are small, oval beans with a rich, hearty taste and a staple in Latin cooking.
Just add lashings of garlic! They look nice too, especially when their rich, dark color is paired with yellow rice.
Work well in soups, especially Cuban black bean soup.
Use in frijoles negros, refried beans, and chili.
Cooked in a savory broth, black beans can stand alone with a dish of rice.
